How about preventing Constantine from decreeing Christianity to be the official religion of the Roman Empire in the early fourth century, which would have then avoided centuries of persecution against the non-christian peoples of Europe and Asia. Additionally, much of the science which was already known to the educated Greeks, Romans, Indians, and Chinese (such as the fact of a spherical earth revolving around the Sun, and the existence of other planets), would have not been lost, and the Dark Ages would never have begun.

I liked "The Incredibles" very much, it was such a hilarious spoof on the whole "superhero/evil villian" genre. I really liked "Contact" from a few years ago, also "Groundhog Day", "What About Bob", both "Spiderman" films, both "X-men" films, "A Passage to India", "Sirens", "Out of Africa", "Opportunity Knocks", "Mr Destiny", "Splash", "Scrooged", "Brother Bear", "UHF", and "Gladiator", in no particular order.

What do you do when you're stuck in back of a Sunday Driver?
by JH ini took a ride this morning, and it must be easter sunday's fault.
most people are driving so slowly.
they come out of church, and drive well below the allowed speed limit.

I suppose I'm different...I just relax, ease back so I'm not on the bumper of the car ahead, and enjoy the drive. Who knows why someone up ahead is driving slowly, it doesn't automatically imply selfishness. Perhaps they are very old and don't see well, perhaps there is a problem with their car. In any event, I view speed limits as a MAXIMUM allowable rate for traffic, based on average traffic density and visibility. No foul in driving a bit below the limit. It is the fool who attempts to pass in an unsafe manner who causes an accident. Sometimes life provides you with the lesson you need the most, if you frequently find yourself being "impeded" by slower drivers, perhaps you need to learn patience.

4-1-05 WT Galileo and Catholic Church: Lessons to be learned
by blondie ini won't go through the whole account of galileo; he believed what his eyes told him, not the church, and died under house arrest.. .
the wts has these comments:.
because galileo rejected an interpretation of scripture based on greek philosophy, he stood condemned!

Wheels turn, and truth advances, but sometimes slowly. So, perhaps around 2225, fundamentalist churches will finally accept evolution, something the Catholic Church already allows.

What Happened to the Body?
by hmike ini'm fairly new here, so please excuse me if this has been discussed before.
it seemed like an appropriate time to bring this up.. suppose we accept that there really was a man jesus, rabbi, teacher, etc., but just a mortal man.
so if he didn't resurrect, what happened to the body, and how was the "myth" of the resurrection perpetuated, especially in light of the numerous "witnesses" (some of whom were still alive when the accounts were written, if we can believe that part of the accounts) and the effect this had on their lives?

Some interesting questions come to mind: If the body was "dissolved" or "evaporated", then why was the stone blocking the doorway rolled away when the three women arrived (Mark 16:4)? Who was the "young man clothed in a white robe" (Mark 16:5) who was sitting inside the tomb when the three women entered? If I come home and find my garage door open, my car missing, and a stranger inside the garage, should I assume my car has died and gone to heaven?

Would'nt it be great if they had to read our letters outloud to the cong...

I'm not DF'd or DA'd, and never sent a letter to the elders or anyone else. I have thought of writing a letter explaining my reasons for no longer accepting "the truth" and publishing it in one of those free weekly classified newspapers which are so common, such as the "Ad-Sack" in South Texas, or "Thrifty-Nickle" in some other areas. One might go into as much detail as desired, and because these papers are extremely widely read, the congregation would have to answer lots of questions about the situation from people they call on at the door. Haven't done this myself, but it might be a viable option for some who were not given an opportunity to explain why they chose not to associate any longer.

The Celestine Prophecy - The Movie
by frankiespeakin ini remember awhile back many said they enjoyed the fictional book "the celestian prophecy" by james redfield.
well they are making a movie that has been in production for some time now and should be released some time this year.
hear is a site that can give you some interesting info about the author.

Actually, The Celestine Prophecy was the first book in a trilogy. It was followed by The Tenth Insight, and then by The Secret of Shambhala. They were and are pretty good novels, based very loosely on the idea that the human race has evolved, and is still evolving into something more than we have been previously. This is similar to the writings of Ken Wilbur. I'm glad to learn that The Celestine Prophecy is being made into a movie, I just hope that the producers do a good job with it, and it doesn't end up being some lame groaner.

What does it take to be an MS these days?
by Pwned inhaving a pulse and not missing meetings?
my grandfather is an ms and i know for a fact that he is not the picture perfect jw.
he doesnt do anything wrong but he is no bastion of spirituality either.

In Texas, at least in the circuit overseen by Atkinson, brothers were required to turn in 10 hours minimum field service per month to qualify as MS. Some in my congregation were deleted for not meeting this quota.
