I have already seen women used as literature servants, in the Central Congregation of Corpus Christi, Tx (although it was a few years ago, and I've no idea if they still do this).

Will Women Eventually Start Being Used As Servants?
by White Dove inas the men in the congregations suffer from burnout and quit helping out as ms and elders, do you think the situation of shrinkage will become so desperate that the wts will be forced to start using women in positions of authority?
they have a huge commodity that they are refusing to use.
that makes no sense at all.

I recall sitting in the Houston Astrodome, desperately wishing I was somewhere ELSE. I would sometimes stare up at the pattern of the crisscrossing steel girders which held up the roof, and imagine I had a hang glider to soar around over the audience.
I also recall attending a bookstudy at an elderly German sisters house, and several of the very sincere older people in attendance conversing, so CERTAIN that the end was going to come within just the very next few MONTHS... -

WTS, the Bible, and Mayan/Pagan beliefs
by sinis indoes anyone see a coorelation between recent changes in the wts, the "urgency" at hand that they keep saying, and the coming of 2012 prophecies of the mayan (end of an era and the coming of kulkulcan) and other cultures that center on that date?
i often wonder if the gb are going outside the bounds of the bible and looking at other cultures to verify or solidify that the end is nigh.
thoughts?

The mayan calendar is cyclical, that is to say, 2012 marks the end of one cycle and the start of another. Exactly the same way the western calendar "ends" on Dec 31, and starts over on Jan 1. 2012 will not bring anything like an "Armageddon", the mayan calendar just starts over at "1".

Speed limits and other traffic laws: Caesars things to Caesar?
by gaiagirl inhow conscientious have you observed jw's to be in regard to traffic laws?
do they obey them in the same manner they claim to obey bible verses?
or do they ignore them for the most part, and try to get away with whatever they can?.

I knew of one elder who drove at higher than legal speeds regularly, and was involved in an accident in which his infant granddaughter was nearly killed.

Book study reminiscing - what was your memorable bookstudy experience.
by yadda yadda 2 ini must admit to feeling a bit nostalgic, sentimental now about the loss of the good old home book study arrangement.
there are many rather pleasant memories coming to the mind of various homes i attended for the book study.
i can still remember vividly most of them.. it had a warm, convivial, family feel about it.

Our bookstudy conductor once apparantly had a stroke or aneurism in the middle of the study! He suddenly leaned forward clutching his head and cried "Mommy!" (his pet name for his wife). From that point onward, he gradually spiralled downward, becoming more feeble and more senile, finally dying several years later. His widow went to live in government housing, and his son took over the family business until closing it down and moving away.

If (a very big if) I were Catholic, I would be very proud...
by Alpaca ini am not one to cut religion any slack, but after the pope's appeal to heal the wounds of catholic youths who were victims of abuse by catholic priests, i could not help but compare his appeal with the pathetic, cowardly stance the gb has taken with the r&f in the borg.. this is notwithstanding blondie's post about the pope's complicity in the abuse cover-up.. the difference is that the borg leadership refuses to realize that they are fallible.
they cling to the view that they are somehow above reproach, taint, and fault.
they are truly pathetic.. just my take on things.. cheers to all,.

Another point about which Catholics can be proud: The Pope has stated that there is no objection to Christians believing in evolution, and that scripture need not be taken literally. This is quite a different stand than that of 400 years ago, when the Church denied, in the face of evidence, that the Earth moved around the Sun. Now, we have a Catholic church which actually considers scientific evidence, and accepts it even if it means making an adjustment to their own beliefs.
Can you imagine the WTBTS ever making such a pronoucement? I cannot. Well, maybe in 400 years. -

It was rather sad the way Bela's career slid down, until he was making horrible grade B- movies in the 1950's. No reflection on his ability, but rather on the studios and the way they chose to use his name and skills. Compare, for example, "Dracula" with some of his films from 20 years later, what a waste of talent.

JW's and divorce...higher or lower than average, or just average?
by gaiagirl indo jw's enjoy more stable, happier marriages as a result of applying "bible principles", or does the stress of toeing the line make their marriages break up more frequently?
or, do they pretty much match the national average?
