Oops, in my earlier post I was trying to remember a line from an old song, "Lady Marmalade", in which I had been told by a Belgian friend that the line: "Voulez vous coucher avec moi" actually did translate as "make love to me". however, I obviously did not remember the full line, and perhaps my Belgian friend did not provide an accurate translation.

Saying I love you foreign languages
by BlackSwan of Memphis inhey all, i could really use some help.. i am looking for the proper way a parent might say to their child i love you in these languages.. spanish, french, italian.
i am definitely interested in other languages, gaelic, arabic, russian etc.
but many languages involved alphabet characters i am not familiar with.. i do know that there are online translators, babelfish etc.but i have found out the hard way, those are really not reliable, and i need to know as specifically as possible.. i am finding that unlike the english language, there might be one way to say i love you in a romantic manner and a way to say i love you in friendly, non romantic manner.

Admittedly, a great deal of tv programming is a waste of time, just filler so there won't be dead air. I've gotten so that I won't watch a movie on tv because of all the commercials. When "What Lies Beneath" aired a couple of years ago, I watched the movie because I'm a big fan of Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford. I actually kept track of the commercials shown during the broadcast, and made tick marks on paper for each ad. I counted 125 separate commercials, in blocks often spaced 7-10 minutes apart. So a movie which has an actual running time of 130 minutes took 180 minutes to broadcast, or to put it another way, commercials took up almost 40% of the broadcast time. This is why I choose to watch movies on DVD The same thing happens with sitcoms, your average 30 minute show only actually runs for 22 minutes, the rest is commercials, usually delivered in 2 or 3 blocks during the show, or between shows. Between the vast amount of shows which aren't worth watching anyway, and the added "time tax" of commercials even on the good shows, WTBTS is surely concerned that people might be burning up valuable time which might be "better" (cough) spent attending meetings, etc. And heaven forbid that someone might actually watch PBS and see a documentary about evolution, the fossil record, or animals demonstrating qualities which might indicate that they have souls.

Actually, oxygen isotope ratios in ancient sediments indicate that human burning of fossil fuels within the last 300 years has increased the CO2 levels in the atmosphere to the highest levels experienced anytime since the Cretacesous (i.e. 65 million years ago), when the global climate was quite warm indeed. There was a falloff in CO2 during much of the Cenezoic, which may have contributed to the repeated glaciations observed during that era. As George Bush Sr, the "environmental President" might have said (but didn't)...high CO2, BAD!

I recall hearing a talk in which an example was made of the two Hebrew spies who were hiding in Jericho in the home of Rahab. When men of the city came searching for the spies, Rahab lied and said they weren't there, allowing them an opportunity to later escape and return to the camp of Israel. According to the account, this led directly to the total destruction of Rahab's city, including all her neighbors, their children, etc. Rahab's lying to protect two Israelites (and by association, "Kingdom Interests") is promoted as a GOOD thing, and a fine example for modern witnesses to emulate. Whether a statement is a lie or not is independent of whether we deem someone "entitled" to know the truth. A lie is any statement which the speaker knows to be false. Period. Representatives of WTBTS have no problem with lying to promote the interests of their religion.

Three who come to mind include Charles Darwin, who showed the true relationship between humans and all the other life forms on this planet. His work made an impact which is still being felt 150 years later. Albert Einstein, who defined a new form of religion based on observations of science rather than pronouncements by clergy. Carl Sagan, who helped clearly demonstrate to millions (perhaps "billions and billions") humans place in the universe, how humans are made of "star stuff" and why our destiny should be found among the stars.

proof of the bible?
by Sam87 inhi everyone, i found this on myspace on one of the jw groups (overun by apostates hehe), it is an interesting read, its about some 'proof' of the bible, whether or not it proves the bible is very questionable though, but the part about sodom and gomorrah down the bottom was very interesting, what are your thoughts on this article?
what do you think its strengths/weaknesses are?
thanks.

One problem I see is that the article appears to claim that Neanderthals were the Biblical Nephilim, because they were stronger and had larger brains than modern Cro-Magnon type humans. However, the fossil record is very clear that Neanderthals existed LONG before Cro-Magnons. Neanderthal bones have been dated earlier than 250,000 years, while no Cro-Magnon bones older than 50,000 years have ever been found. So, it seems difficult for Neanderthals to be hybrid offspring of Cro-Magnons and angels, since for most of Neanderthals tenure on Earth, their supposed parents didn't yet exist.
