Martin and Dawn St.Nicholas?

just wondering about some friends i used to know when i was in, an older couple named martin and dawn st. nicholas.

at one time they had been in the overseas building work, traveling and helping build kingdom halls in various exotic lands.

they also had been at bethel for a number of years.

At one time they had been in the overseas building work, traveling and helping build Kingdom Halls in various exotic lands. They also had been at Bethel for a number of years. In the U.S. they lived in a number of different places, including Washington State, Kansas City, and Corpus Christi, TX, among others.

They were related to another younger couple, Arlan and Michelle Wiggins, who had lived in Texas, then moved to Kansas City.

Does anyone know their current whereabouts and status?

Any Logan's Run fans out there?

i just picked up this sci-fi movie from the groovie 70's and watched it.

i remember that it kind of disturbed me when i was a kid.

it was about a closed society that automatically kills everyone at age 30, so they can be replaced by a new baby.

By an odd circumstance, I watched it again last weekend, with a group of friends who get together to view old sci-fi movies and television shows. Special effects were not good even by the standards of the day, as 2001 had already had far superior effects 7-8 years previously, and Star Wars would have much better effects the next year. I remember some parallels with Soylent Green, for example people who reach a certain age are recycled into food, although by different methods. In Logans Run, they are sent to an icy cave, where a robot named Box stores them until they are needed, while in Soylent Green they are processed in a factory and turned into wafers. Logans Run was one of Farrah Fawcetts first films, although she had been seen in commercials before then. Her character in Logans Run was kind of sensual but slow of intellect. Sorry that neither Michael York or Jenny Agutter show up often now in movies or television.

With all of the negative talk by Born-Agains against JW's are BAC's better?

with all of the negativity you read on ex-jw's websites and christian websites against jw's, one question comes to my mind do bac's(born-again christians) and ex-jw's think that they can do a better job at preaching the gospel/good news to the public?

while i don't agree with alot of what jw's teach i do admire their dedication in field service something i just don't see in born-again christianity.

i know alot of bac's that smoke, drink too much, cheat on their spouses, cheat on their taxes and don't receive any kind of church discipline.

In addition to the above comments, I would add that most JWs participate in field service because they HAVE to, not because of any particular love for the householders. I once heard a JW elder refer to field service as "unnatural". Basically, JWs are BACs with a few differing dogmas, just as individual BAC churches each have different dogmas. The similarities are greater than their differences: "We have the one true faith. Believe as we do, or you will die at Gods hand."

Heard this on Prarie Home Companion: Albert Einstein dies, and goes to meet St. Peter at the pearly gates of heaven. St Peter says "I need to see some ID before I can let you in". Al asks for a chalkboard, which is produced, and the goes on to cover the board with equations describing various aspects of Relativity. After a while, St. Peter stops him and says "Go on in, now I know you are who you say you are". Pablo Picasso dies, and also goes to meet St. Peter at the pearly gates of heaven. St. Peter says "I'm going to need to see some ID before I can let you in". Pablo asks for a canvas, which is produced, then goes on to paint a very modern masterpiece in the Picasso style. After a while St. Peter stops him and says "Go on in, now I know you are who you say you are." George W. Bush dies, and goes to meet St. Peter at the pearly gates of heaven. St. Peter says "I'm going to need to see some ID before I can let you in". W says, "But I was the President of the United States, the most powerful nation on the planet. My face was known to hundreds of millions of people. Why do I have to show ID?" St. Peter says "We need ID from everyone. We needed ID from Einstein, and from Picasso, so we are going to need ID from you as well". W looks puzzled for a moment then asks "Who are Einstein and Picasso"? After a long moments silence, St. Peter says "Go on in, now I know you must be who you say you are."

Selling our old KH

we just confirmed that our former kh (endicott ny)is being sold and all the other kh are being consolidated (endicott is being dissolved).

the funny thing is noone we still have contact with thinks its odd.

anyone else have this going on in their area?

So, when a KH is sold, who gets the money? WTBTS? Local trustees? Divided up among the brothers and sisters who contributed to its construction/maintainence?

There is a group known as "The Brights" who deny existence of the supernatural. Based on their name, and an image I once saw in a Ford advertisment, I would suggest an illuminated light bulb.

in conversation with a jw recently, i mentioned that i was a blood donor, and they replied that the best use of blood was jesus sacrifice.

my answer was that "i know people whose lives have been saved because of my blood donations, do you know of even one person who has been raised from the grave because of jesus sacrifice?

" as you might imagine, the jw claimed that thousands of people were in heaven.

My answer was that "I KNOW people whose lives have been saved because of my blood donations, do you know of even ONE person who has been raised from the grave because of Jesus sacrifice?" As you might imagine, the JW claimed that thousands of people were in heaven. "Prove it" I said. "If we assume that the account of Jesus is true, then when he was raised from the dead, his body disappeared. So these other people you claim have gone to heaven, are THEIR graves empty?" Of course, he couldn't name even one case of an unexpectedly empty grave, but insisted that people HAVE been raised to heaven. So, what other arguments would you offer to support either side of the question?

his own accomplishments are rich and varied, playing with some of the greatest names in modern jazz and also entering the world of the classical piano with the same success that he has met in the jazz world.. he published a stinging criticism of the 'rap' music idiom, taking bold side-swipes at the true culprits, the record companies on his web site.

Kenny makes some good points regarding rap 'music'. I can think of a mere handful of positive rap songs, for example some of Will Smiths body of work, or perhaps Imani Coppola, among others. The very best example of rap music I ever heard was 'Rapture' by Blondie, innovative and clever at the same time. As for the vast majority of rap, I think it proves that some cultures fail to socially evolve, and rather DE-volve. Rap music in general (with a pittance of exceptions) glorifies this devolution.
