The 1995 Generation Change
by sloppyjoe2 ini was just a teenager and have a vivid memory of sitting in a chair doing a microphone for the sunday meeting.
everyone was commenting that it didn't mean the end was far off, and it didn't change the condition of the dead, or the 144,000, or the trinity so we should still remain faithful.
this is my first memory as a kid being just a teen that i ever had a single doubt.

This is my first memory as a kid being just a teen that I ever had a single doubt. I had not pre studied or read the magazine since they used to be mailed to our house, so this study was the first time I knew of the change. I remember thinking they just changed this because they ran out of time, there was no new revelation from God. But I soon forgot about it, went on playing with my friends and took many more years before I really realized I believed in something false. I had studied out of the red live forever book and it was a HUGE teaching we as JWs used at the time to show how close the end was. I am sure it would be downplayed now by current JWs as not a big deal, but I certainly remember it being repeated over and over during my childhood. For those that were in at the time, what was your reaction? -

Worldwide Church of God collapse
by cog_survivor inon my introduction post a few people expressed interest in how the worldwide church of god (wwcg) imploded.
i think maybe in hopes something similar will happen with the jws.
i think the jws will also eventually experience a meltdown but probably not in the same way since the power structure was a bit different.

When I was in grade school and there would be Christmas events there was always myself and another girl who would sit in a separate classroom. I was a jw and she was a world wide church of God member. I found it interesting that someone else didn't celebrate Xmas. Later on when out in service we called on their house and her dad explained all of the teachings they believed in, what holidays they didn't celebrate, still had the sabbath and I suppose they didn't believe in the trinity. Now it looks like the church has done and about face on all of that many years ago. I was just unaware. It makes me wonder how did they process it all and react to the changes. Facebook has yielded me no results. -

Depends on what the meaning of the words"Last Days" is
by enigma1863 indo the jws still say "we are in the last of the last days" ?
i don't even know what that means any more.
they will say the end is coming soon but according to their god a day isn't a day.

A JW will always say it's Jehovah's time table not man's as a day to him is a thousand years. Which my reply back would be then if that is the case and it's the last days plural it must mean the last days are a minimum of 2000 human years. -

Is there a difference between being pardoned or acquitted
by Ucantnome inin the new world translation of the holy scriptures (revised 2013) at romans 6:7 it uses the word 'acquitted'.
in the kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures (1985) it also has 'acquitted' and in the greek word for english word translation part in has 'has been justified' .
the insight on the scriptures (1988) under the heading declare righteous page 803 talking about the original greek words that are translated as justify and justification and can be translated as declared righteous and pronounce righteous it says,.

If you read Romans 6:1-6 Paul is not talking about a physical death in this account. He is talking about being baptized into christ's death and therefore if you have done so you are acquitted or free from your sins. The watchtower sometimes uses just verse 7 to imply a physical death frees you from sin which they tie into Romans 6:23. They use this to say that all your loved ones are forgiven and will be resurrected. In fact this passage does not say that AT ALL as paul is saying in verse 2 that they had already died in the past tense. It is a spiritual death being discussed here, not a physical one. -

Two questions for all "apostates"
by sloppyjoe2 indid any of you have a family member or close friend become an apostate first and you shunned them for it only to eventually see the light?

Did Jason B Dunn say the "New World Translation is the most accurate translation there is?" Why make a new Bible than?
by MagicMItchJensen inthe circuit overseer mentioned something about the nwt being the most accurate translation according to professor jason b dunn, i heard this nonsense before but never really dug deep in to this topic because non of us really had a choice as jws but to accept all their random musing of our uneducated leaders as factual.
1. if the new world translation was the picture perfect translation of all the bibles and we went door to door telling everyone we had the "most honest bible", why did they change it to a paraphrased version?
what success have you had getting jehovah's witnesses to address why they tinkered with the new world translation, it was suppose to be the best translation and now it's turned in to a very loose paraphrased version.

In his book "Truth in Translation" he disputes that the watchtower should not have used Jehovah 237 times in the New Testament. Of course they aren't going to bring that part up. -

JWs teach the reason God allows wickedness is because Satan challenged his sovereignty. This means satan said that man doesn't need God and could rule themselves without him. Didn't the Tower of Babel prove satan right?
Genesis 11:6 Jehovah then said: “Look! They are one people with one language,+and this is what they have started to do. Now there is nothing that they may have in mind to do that will be impossible for them. 7 Come! Let us+ go down there and confuse their language in order that they may not understand one another’s language.”
Didn't God prevent them from accomplishing anything they could?

This is the man who made it all happen!
by Terry inwilliam miller.. do you know how important this man has been to your life?
do you know your life would have been entirely different (without a doubt) had he not lived?.
read on!.

The scary part about William Miller is that the Seventh Day Adventist still use the year 1844 as significant prophetic year according to their beliefs. Even after all of this they now have 18 million members. 1914 will be significant forever for JWs now matter how far away we get from that year. -

How long until the "Generation" gets Revised/Dropped?
by Lemonp inif you don't already know this; the latest revision of the insight book has no mention of the "overlapping generation" bs online library, insight book .
obviously that change will not bee seen by the vast majority of people, so when will this "brighter light" shine through in a wt or assembly talk?
predictions?.

I always thought all they needed to do was say the generation that sees the signs in Matthew 24:29-31 would be the generation that would not pass away. They could say those are the only signs that we are waiting to see still. So we know we are close. Easy button, done. -

You guys need to look at the Seventh Day Adventist. Most of us know that William Miller took the day for a year principle and predicted the end to happen in 1844. Fast forward some decades and through him Russell got the day for a year concept and 1914 from Barbour. Anyway, the Adventist movement now proclaims over 18 million members. Yet here is what they believe about 1844 today in the year 2015.
- Heavenly sanctuary (fundamental belief 24)—At his ascension, Jesus Christ commenced an atoning ministry in the heavenly sanctuary. In 1844, he began to cleanse the heavenly sanctuary in fulfillment of the Day of Atonement.
- Investigative Judgment (fundamental belief 24)—A judgment of professed Christians began in 1844, in which the books of record are examined for all the universe to see. The investigative judgment will affirm who will receive salvation, and vindicate God in the eyes of the universe as just in his dealings with mankind.
So what was once the "end of the world" prediction has morphed into this now over 150 years later. 1914 will be the same for JWs as 1844 was to the adventist movement. It will always be around just with new explanations.
