Surely the Bethelites wouldn't have time for channelling, what with getting drunk and buggering each other all the time?

I've just been doing the Thanksgiving festival on a (free) World of Warcraft server and I had to kill 20 turkeys. 20! What is wrong with you Americans?!

Pale.Emperor Meets The Mormons
by pale.emperor inwhen i was a jw i was fascinated with the mormon religion.
i never believed a word of it of course, but i was interested in their religion like most boys were interested in star wars.
i’ve read the book of mormon, doctrine & covenants, pearl of great price, book of abraham, watched their videos, read critical books by ex mormons etc etc… (strange at the time that i never did this with my own religion!

On the note put through your door, I'm pretty sure I saw a documentary on the Mormons that said they do deliberately use Honeypot entrapment techniques. It was the documentary that was the first to show the inside of the big temple place, can't remember the name of it now, but I remember thinking that if I could get my JW family to watch it they would have to find parallels between the way things are carried on.

Hi Daniel!
Um, you do know that the "Jehovahs" are eagerly waiting for 99% of the people on this planet to be killed don't you? That's not really peace on Earth...

Funchback,
I wasn't allowed to work in a Petrol Station because it would mean selling cigarettes. My mother got the elders to sit me down and have a talk with me.

The captcha thing does bug me, but I'd far rather be bugged by that than have spam appear in the forums.
I like the Google\Facebook idea, but I can imagine that scaring off questioning JW's in case the "nasty apostate website" somehow got personal information from facebook and then spooged it all over the internet.

"And what makes those 7 men different from other heads of organised religion? All organisations have a head who dictates terms to some degree."
Have you considered that there may be no difference between them and that they're all wrong?
You feel that birthdays are an Ego boost for people? Can you tell me what's wrong with giving an ego boost to people you love? Can you point me to a study that shows that birthdays are responsible for people becoming out of control ego-maniacs?
I like to make my wife and child feel appreciated on a day to day basis, but a birthday gives the chance to really focus on that person and make them feel valued and loved. It strengthens the family bonds and brings us all closer together. That happens to a lesser extent with non-family members too. Birthday's strengthen social bonds.
That exposes what the real purpose of the man-made rule banning birthdays is: Isolation of the individual through the weakening of social bonds.

A Little Direction Please
by Brian J ini'm an active elder, cobe, just got home from the meeting where i handled the treasures part and concluded by announcing a friend of mine has been d/f,.....blah blah blah...and over the last year have woken up.
i simply cannot spill my guts to my wife and children as it would be family suicide.
i have zero desire to bash, spread my feelings, or become an "apostate".

It's great to see you posting again BrianJ!
I'm trying to imagine the mental turmoil giving a talk at a circuit assembly while being mentally awake.. that would fry my noodle!
I've never fished, but the thought of going out in a small boat with my son and spending a day fishing is magical. It makes me think how stupid Pascal's wager is. What you're losing if you take Pascal's bet is days fishing with your family, it's wasting this one life you have now doing crap like giving talks and knocking doors. It's a life of mental turmoil.
The most valuable things that you have in your possession right now are your life and your family. Anyone that wants to get you to use those precious possessions in doing what they say had better have some concrete evidence of the benefits and not just baseless claims of a future dream of a hand-drawn panda paradise.
