  A Book About Cults.

  i've been told that this book is a good read.

  has anyone on here read it and can say what's in it or what's it about?

  it is quite expensive to buy.

  I liked Steve Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control. The edition I have doesn't have a section on JW's but I think the latest one does. It's not expensive either!

  No Bible = No God?

  some doubt about the bible completely, some partially.

  what if the bible turns out to be a product of humans, nothing divine.

  would you still believe in a creator?.

  Whether we should address God using terms such as it, He, She or not matters not.

  Sorry to disagree with you Venus but it's the heart of the matter. As soon as you give any attribute to God, beyond being a non-interventionist creator who set reality in motion and then took no further part, then you enter the realm of extraordinary claims, for which there is no evidence,

  You state that God is a he and that he "silently enjoys" providing humans with things. What is your proof that this is the case?

  What if God is a she and she hates humanity because they insist on committing acts of destruction and not acts of creation?

  What if God is a capricious child who created the universe by accident and then threw it away?

  The fact is there is equal evidence to prove these propositions, including yours, i.e.: none.

  The fact is that there are an infinite number of possibilities once you propose a creator God so the only logical position is to assume they are all false until there is any evidence to narrow the field.

  P.E. I know you want your daughter to keep on seeing her cousins, but isn't the price to be paid for that to happen way too high? Couldn't she make close friends with other kids at playgroups, after school clubs or whatever, you know, like normal kids do?

  I have a pretty good relationship with my JW family, but I wouldn't allow any of them to look after my boy unsupervised. They have a poison inside, but they think it's medicine. I could never trust them not to poison my son, because they'd think they were doing the best for him.

  @Venus: Problem with people who ask for proof for God’s existence is that they have formulated their own concepts of God from books like Bible.

  And yet you call God "He". Where did that concept come from?

  Do the fishes call the sea "He"?

  No bible does not equal no god. It only equals no bible god, which a kind of obvious.

  To Perry: Martyrdom does not equal truth. This is also obvious because martyrs have died while holding opposing beliefs.

  JW Funeral Talk Outline

  hi all,.

  a friend has a jw funeral coming up and wants some input if possible, so a copy of the latest outline would be invaluable to him when he talks to the elders, another question he and his brother, neither now jw's, wish to give a eulogy, is this allowed ?.

  any advice will be greatly appreciated..

  Hi Phizzy,

  I did my speech at the crematorium for my grandma. I don't think that any elders are going to allow non-JW's to get up on the platform in a kingdom hall though. I think your best hope for that is to get the elder doing the talk in the hall to include *some* information about the deceased, not just that they were a great JW and did lots of ministry.

  playing dirty as it can, trying to silence dissenters.. the john cedars channel on youtube has been taken down after the posting of a video critique of regional (district) convention leaked videos.. sounds like something putin would do in russia.

  Is it ethical to have children?

  this was a news article recently in an australian newspaper that caught my eye.. the premise was that to have a child is to inflict an extra human being onto the world and also, to inflict the world (with all its problems) onto the child.. there is a lot to say about this but from jw point of view, i have always believed it to be incredibly hypocritical that jw's have children in 'this system'.

  all my life at the meeting i heard how little time we have left, how sick the world is, how i was probably going to be persecuted and end up in a jail cell for being a jw.

  why would anyone want to become parents in this situation, particularly if they are confident there is only 'a short time left'?.

  Ethically for Non-JW's having 2 children puts a neutral load on the system. The parents die, the kids take their place. Currently my wife and I only have 1 kid so we're having a positive effect and doing our bit to save the planet!

  Tattoos?

  if seems to be quite fashionable nowadays for ex-jws to get a tattoo or a series of tattoos to symbolize either their time spent in the watchtower or their escape, and i kind of don't get it.

  i don't understand why someone would want a constant reminder on their body of such a horrible period in their life.

  on another forum, one woman shared that she was getting 25 bees tattooed all over her body to represent the 25 years she spent in the org.

  On the other hand I've been dying to get a cross to wear around my neck and parade it around....

  I'd like a collection of religious symbols, like Benny in the film "The Mummy"...

  I also want to get a tattoo of a moth, I'm mad about moths, but with 2,500 species in the UK I can't decide which one to get!

  The fly doesn't know it's in a bottle....

  ... the walls are transparent.

  so if you want to help the fly escape you first have to convince the fly that it's in a bottle, and only then can it find its way out.

  that is taken from this american life episode 635 called "chip in my brain".
