I really enjoyed The Ballad of Buster Skruggs too. Not only was it proper story telling, but it was a whole bunch of top notch stories!

The problem with movies this last decade or so
by LoveUniHateExams inactually, i think i've discovered two issues.. the first is that there are too many soft reboots, remakes and re-imaginings.
don't get me wrong, hollywood has always done remakes and some remakes work very well.
the fly (1986) and the thing (1982) are actually remakes/re-imaginings of the original 50s films.

For any that still believe in God and Jesus, what is your reasoning on this matter?
by BourneIdentity inin the old testament, god was always full of anger and jealousy resulting in the murder of millions of people.
we’re told jesus perfectly reflects his fathers qualities.
why in the new testament does jesus show no hint of anger and jealousy and wanting to kill people?

TTWSYF:
Respectfully, although you are right as far as each of us are not witness to personal and profound intimate communication / revelation with God, there is still a large amount of evidence.
One example of evidence could be the way the apostles and 90% of the early Christians leaders were tortured to death is evidence. Why die for a lie? To what end?
While it is possible for men to die for a lie, it is not possible for the lot of sinners that made up the apostles to go thru what they went through and not fold up if it were a lie in my opinion. If they KNEW it was a lie, they would have recounted when the blade started to peel their skin off of their bodies. It's common sense.Thank you for your response, but I'm sorry you are wrong to say that there is evidence for the existence of the biblical god. If there was any evidence then there would be only two types of people in the world: people who accepted the evidence and people who would rather die.
Your example of the early Christian leaders being tortured to death is clearly wrong because we know that people have been martyred for beliefs which are contradictory to those of Christians. The Jews who accepted death by burning at the stake rather than convert to Christianity during the inquisition for example. Even to the point of refusing the final "mercy" from their Christian tormentors of being strangled before the fires were lit. Imagine the faith it would have taken to refuse a quick death and face the torment of the flames.
All that martyrdom shows is that people will die for their beliefs, it provides no evidence that those beliefs are true.

The three beers and a cake suggest birthday, but what then the acronym?
I reckon the O is Old and the B is Bugger/Bastard/Badger, something like that, but what's the E? Enclave? Ensemble?

There is no evidence that the god of the bible exists. So you believe without evidence and call this faith.
There is no knowledge about the god of the bible that does not come from other men. You either read books or listen to speakers to gain knowledge about god.
Therefore you do not have faith in god, but in men first. You have faith that what you have been told by these men is true.
This leads to a logical contradiction because the bible says: Psalm 146:3 - "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help."
To believe in god you have to have faith in the men who wrote, translated, published and interpreted the bible for you, but the bible says not to trust them. So if you believe the bible, you can't believe the bible and if you believe in god it is because of your faith in men and nothing else.

At least the guy on the floor is doing something constructive. Getting some shut-eye. The poor bastards by the carts are wasting their lives away in a trap that's harder to get out of than homelessness. If they did ignore him then they, unwittingly, did him the greatest favour they could.

There's nothing to watch on TV anymore ???
by RubaDub indo you find yourself, as i sometimes do, skimming through channels on the tv remote and not finding anything interesting to watch?.
growing up, we only had four channels on our tv (nbc, cbs, abc and pbs).
and yet there always seemed to be something of interest to see.. sadly, i often find myself watching shows where some guys are auctioning off storage lockers, killing alligators, picking junk from peoples' garages or barns, catching tuna, towing cars, driving trucks on the ice, catching crabs, running pawn shops ... etc etc etc.

I have a 4 year old and just scrolling through Netflix is problematic. Either he sees a scary image, some of the zombie shows have particularly gruesome cover pics or, even worse, he sees something like Peppa Pig or Wishenpoof and we have to watch that instead of something I might like..
I've been watching a family quiz show with Dara O'Brian on BBC2 on TV recently, but after that I usually end up on the horror channel watching Star Trek re-runs or Diners Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. Until I get the controller taken off me and it's back to fecking kids shows again.
I remember watching the Two Ronnies or Morecombe and Wise with my whole family on a Saturday evening when I was a kid. There doesn't seem to be that sort of general appeal TV any more, it's all niche.

Part of my studies when leaving the JW's proved (to me) that the spirit world doesn't exist. There are no angels, demons or gods but those we make.
