Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT a Cult......so they say.
by Tenacious intrying to develop a good strategy for relatives still partially indoctrinated by this despicable inhumane cult.
i researched their own material and i found some good info on how they don't mind control anyone.
the following unedited information was sourced from their february 15, 1994 watchtower p. 5-7. i've highlighted some sentences that we all know are lies and a distortion of the reality of their community:.

I like to use "High Control Religion" instead of cult. They don't go into auto-shutdown because you've said they're a religion and then there's a chance you can start discussing the high control bit.

How I Found Jesus!
by berrygerry inby looking at cdn court cases.. i knew i would find him if i persisted.. there is clear evidence, in my view, that beginning some time, probably in early 2010, but perhaps earlier, that mr. jones developed a delusional disorder with a primary religious focus.
mr. jones accounting of the development of his belief that he is jesus christ, is consistent with the known development of psychotic disorders.
mr. jones describes a period of time where he felt that he had some greater purpose or was meant for something important although he was unable to really identify what that was.

Jesus would be totally rubbish at hide and seek.

DINOSAURS - What do Jehovah's Witnesses Believe?
by Bloody Hotdogs! inas part of my deconversion catharsis, i have been building a(nother) website to highlight some of the more ridiculous jw beliefs.
im a looong way from done, but i wanted some early feedback on one article: dinosaurs.

Re: The dinosaur carving, here's an article:
http://paleo.cc/paluxy/stegosaur-claim.htm
For my money it's not a dinosaur. If it isn't meant to represent a real animal maybe a rhino, like the bird carving also on the pillar, then it's some kind of fantasy beast like the toothy monkey wearing a wig which is also carved on the same pillar. :)

Your favourite dog breed ...?
by LoveUniHateExams inin an earlier thread, i mentioned that i wasn't a particularly doggy person but that my parents got a husky last year that i've come to regard as a kind of brother.. huskies superficially resemble wolves and for me it's been fun to compare and contrast husky and wolf behaviour.
huskies howl but rarely bark, and seem to have a strong prey drive and a strong pack instinct - a nod to their wild cousins.
this is why i love huskies, i think.. do you have a favourite dog breed and why?.

Evolution and spirits
by Chris Tann inas of now iam making an unbiased examination of evolution.
however one thing keeps me hanging on to the belief of a supreme spirit being; the existence of spirits.
i have heard countless accounts of people who have experienced frightening encounters with evil forces.

I can tell you an experience I had *last night*. I fell asleep waiting for my wife to come home and woke up in terror because someone was jumping up and down on the bed. The figure was really skinny and had a long coat and a hat on, pulled down over their eyes. The dog jumped off the bottom of the bed and ran out of the room like the clappers. I sat up and heard the key turn in the door downstairs and the figure vanished.
Now what I *think* happened was that my wife opening the door woke the dog who ran downstairs to say hello and all the rest was my mind trying to make sense of it all. The figure seemed perfectly real to me but I am sure was created entirely by the dog jumping off the bed. Well, that or a skinny ghost decided to wake me up for fun. Which is more likely? :)

Chris Tann does this link remind you of the account you're referring to? It's in a coffee shop, not a hospital, but the "magic" sounds the same.
This is a prank which has gone viral recently. Your account sounds like the genesis of an urban myth based on it. If you read some of the articles on Snopes.com you can see how these sort of stories start and then change.
This is just my theory, but changing the location to a hospital rather than a coffee shop (more dead people \ angry spirits in a hospital) gives the story "spirity" credentials and changing the man into a child ups the emotional hookyness.

You could look at it this way: From 1960 to 2012 the peak publishers increased by 6,817,177 people.
in the same time period the world population increased by 3.9 billion people.*
Do you recall the character in one of Douglas Adams' Hitcherbooks called Wowbagger the infinitely prolonged? He was trying to personally insult everyone in the universe... The joke being that in the time he spent insulting one person, thousands more people had been born in that moment.
It's a bit like that. :)
