Dutch JW publish open letter protesting accusations of mishandling child abuse and government inquiry

today watchtower netherlands published an open letter in a national newspaper, lamenting the accusations about them not handling child abuse issues very well.. they protest a scientific report made by utrecht university (by request of the government).. they protest almost everything our minister of justice has said about them.. they place themselves in the role of victims of unfair treatment, discrimination.. they point their finger a other religions (foremost the catholic church) because they are much worse.. they refer to jw being persecuted in wwii, as if that were relevant to the issue at hand.. all in all, they (probably) spent about 25k to 30k euro to publish their bullshit in a national newspaper.. not a single trace of any self-awareness, let alone even a hint of an apology.

Thanks for sharing. Peculiar as I am Dutch, living in The Netherlands and I do read news-apps but did not notice or was not made aware of this open letter. I guess most news agencies did not care to report about it but I can be wrong. My wife is PIMI but she did not ask if I had read something, nothing. No indication she was aware of this at all.

Regarding the contents: it seem of low to average quality. Normally you do not attack openly a leading civil servant like the Minister of Justice, in particular if you realize that this person has the power and authority to take steps against the organisation.

The arguments are not made to build bridges but actually are more to limit any opportunity to come to a common agreement or understanding.

The NAZI reference is the nail in the coffin in my view as it is fully besides the point.

the former image was obtained from a topic in the humor and joke section of this platform and it seems to carry a underground information that is equally powerful.. since a food company had been producing a particular product for four generations since 1914, how come the wtbts publishing company are still producing for a one generation since 1914?.

awake october 1968 stated............ even if we presume that youngsters 15 years of age would be perceptive enough to realize the import of what happened in 1914, it would still make the youngest of "this generation" nearly 70 years old today(year 1968).

so the great majority of the generation to which jesus was referring has already passed away in death.

I don't get it - Marriage in WT world

in wt world, a marriage is only seen (considered) as legal if it is registered in the municipality (or similar governmental organisation).

now, if you look at the scriptures, there was no requirement to have a marriage legally registered in order to be considered married.

is it not strange that the wt subjects themselves to and adopts an worldly arrangement setup but governments rules by satan when it comes to a marital status?.

For those who do not understand what I do not get......there is no law (at least as far as I know) that obliges people to get married. Marriage registration is for fiscal purposes, to avoid bigamy and to protect children. But the bible nowhere obliges you to get married and have it registered with the authorities. Therefore, in order to be considered married in WT, they (WT) require a formal registration. This is not a scriptural policy but a WT policy. In the scriptures, when a man and a woman slept together, they were considered "married" (belonging to each other).

Moses gave a note of "divorce" in order to allow the woman to belong to another man. in those days, a woman would only leave the parents in order to belong to a man. They would not live on their own and if they did, they were likely considered prostitutes.

If the WT would be consistent in their doctrines to apply old hebrew laws and practices, they should accept a couple (man / woman) that live together as belonging to each other. But as usual, the WT creates its own universe with a mix of WT laws that are either based on certain scriptures, governmental law or on their own ideas. Cherry picking at its best.

Drearyweather, that is my point, it must be registered with a (local) authority. But WT always claims that they follow the scriptures. Well, for WT, you are only considered married if it is registered with some local authority. There does not exist such a requirement in the scriptures.

Really disgusting to hear what these people were doing with children as young as a few months. My wife (PIMI) could not even hear it, which I understand. 30 minutes later she prayed for her dinner. Really? God is to be thanked for the food you have but at the same time God did not act to protect these innocent and vulnerable lives?

Received a letter from a JW today.

it started off as "dear friend ,as one of your neighbours" , however the postmark on the letter was from 2 townships away ?

a good twenty minute car drive away .a minor point i know.

it goes on about how she is concerned about the effects that current events are having on the welfare of the community and the corona-virus has prevented her from discussing the issues personally with me.. she then goes on to state and quote jeremiah 29:11 and then goes on to say "for more information about this promise and other questions like :.

Hi, if you are interested at all to reply, be aware you will be replying not to her but to the congregation. Therefore, if your reply will contain a disagreement, I am sure she will never receive the email. You can ask the congregation for her address or email, stating you prefer to know the individual who wrote to you and not just the impersonal congregation.

Jer. 29:11 is about the 70 year of Babylonian rule and when it's over. So, indeed, nothing to do with our times. You might invite her to find better scriptures to encourage you :-), not scriptures that are part of events that took place more than 2500 years ago.

As said, it is a controls issue based on Western (American) values and customs. Same as wearing a suit. In the middle, even today, men were using long robes. Jesus was. Same as using a tie....useless and actually, wearing a suit and tie might give a distinguished impression but at the same time, can disguise who you really are on the inside. Sales men look like that but can they always be trusted?
