i know there are some here that are going through some tough times.
some of you do not believe in god.
some are not sure.. i was told recently by a friend to pray to god for help and he would comfort me.. my first impulse is to pray.
Lisa Rose: I still use Jehovah's name. I feel the same way. I think it is comforting to know some things are out of our hands.
My prayers were mostly for strength and patience. I never expected god to make things happen in my life.
One kind of prayer I do not utter anymore is the prayer for forgiveness and the list of all my short comings of the day.
If I wronged someone I will be the first to apologize.

That makes me feel better. I am trying to keep an open mind. There are still a lot of things Im relearning or looking at in a different way.
Getting rid of the notion that the fate of the world is on my shoulders and that there is a God judging everything I do has been very freeing.
I don't rule out a possibility of a creator but I am inclined to think he doesn't give a flying fig about what I do.

I have found that when I am stressed I still automatically send up a quick prayer for strength. I realize that nobody is listening but I think it is more of a reminder to me to reach down into myself for my inner strength and endurance.
Does anyone else here still pray without thinking but accepting that no one is home?

one of the parts had a skit with 3 or 4 young brothers playing a game of "what i will look forward to in the new system".
one wanted a house by the beach.
one wanted a house in the forest.
Listener: the publications always depicted the resurrected ones keeping their original gender.
The only thing I remember was that the understanding was no marriage fo resurrected ones. I was always sceptical of that understanding.

Update: I got a new avatar! I upgraded to gangsters piglet because I feel edgier.

I'm done with the guilt and looking over my shoulder in case I offend someone.
I'm done with fearing for my children's lives because we aren't following the org.
I am in a better place now compared to when I started this thread.
I am still exploring my beliefs and preconceptions.
I am discovering new "truths" slowly but surely.
I am still working on making new friends, but I think that is more of a personality issue. I am shy and introverted.
I am starting to understand the effect my JW upbringing had on my self-image.

most people feel that it is unethical to post private messages.. how ever there does not seem to be a posting rule against it.. some people unfamiliar with posting on boards may not realize that it is not done to post private messages .
( even though it would seem self evident with the word private in it.).
so what do you think about making it an official posting rule?.

i'm new around here, but i've been browsing the site the last few days in hopes of finding the answer to the situation i've been going through, so hopefully you can help me.
i met this girl in highschool, but never really spoke with her until about a year after i graduated.
she's three years younger (however it's legal where i'm from, don't fret) and still a teenager.
Patrick : It is interesting how you observed such a drastic change of personality in the summer.
I agree with Lisa: the conventions do tend to stir up the guilt and resolve.
I would always come home revved up and filled with new spiritual goals. Think of it as the JW version of New Years resolution.
I would last about 6 months before I ran out of steam.
I made it a whole year once and reactivated myself but didn't find the satisfaction and peace I was looking for. The guilt and feeling of being inadequate would overwhelm me.
I was lucky to have met and married a patient and loving man. He never tried to make me choose between him and my beliefs.
I knew how he felt about religion and I never pushed it on him. ( I did try the winning without a word thing but I figured didnt do it right since he never got won over.)
