Go for it!! Like Crumpet I left school at 16 with very few qualifications but went to uni part time to study for a BA aged 33. I am now in my 5th year of 6. I run a business with 60 staff, have 2 kids and run a home, but my studies are the thing I do that's just for me. I'm already planning what post-grad course to do because once you start learning again it is so addictive (even when you're crying at 1am struggling to get an extra 500 words into an essay).

Within a blink of an eye....
by delilah inthursday evening, i came across a terrible accident, involving two cars.
there were two firetrucks, a first response truck, an ambulance, and about a dozen police cruisers.
there was glass all over the place, and you could smell the strong odour of an electrical fire.

It's so sad the effect that a moment's lack of thouthtlessness can have.
A lady who used to work for me was a passenger in a car driven by her husband when a Volvo coming in the opposite direction rounded the corner on their side of the road. Full frontal impact - result - my employee crippled and widowed in an instant. The driver of the Volvo? Turns out he was a doctor from another country and when the police arrived what was he doing? looking after the injured? no- he was taking photos of the scene. Two years later he eventually pleaded guilty to driving without due care and was banned from driving in England - great he lived in Germany. -

Links please - carbon dating
by neverin inhi all hope you can help .
my hubby is studying for a science degree and tonight my dad was talking to him about carbon dating and questioning the reliability of it.
hubby asked me why dad would be interested and i remembered seeing on here some discussions about jws discrediting carbon dating as it underminded a lot of their teachings.

thanks in advance. -

"Police handle crime, elders deal with sin"
That's the exact phrase used when my Dad met with the CO and DO to try to get my abuser up before a JC. It's been 5 years now since I disclosed the abuse that happened to me and there are still many in the local congs who do not know what this mad did, as he was allowed to step down as an elder for 'personal reasons'. So even though he admitted his crime he is not a 'known' offender.
Thanks for the essay Barbara - it is refreshing to know someone who will not 'turn a blind eye' to the obvious. -

Emotional Blackmail
by neverin init's local election voting day here in the uk so a lot of kids have got the day off from school (schools are used as polling stations).
i have just been walking alongside the nearby canal with my daughter and met a group of two ladies, a girl and a boy in wheelchair who were walking in the opposite direction.
the boy in the wheelchair approached me and said "would you like a leaflet?".

"He's in a wheelchair; that in of itself does not prove he is using his disability to push the JW agenda.
What if a person in a wheelchair were talking to people about the dangers of the WTS????"
I dont know if it was deliberate ploy to use the disabled kid but there were 3 other people in the group - why didn't one of those offer the tract? -

I have just been walking alongside the nearby canal with my daughter and met a group of two ladies, a girl and a boy in wheelchair who were walking in the opposite direction. The boy in the wheelchair approached me and said "would you like a leaflet?". I'm hardly likely to tell a wide eyed kid in a wheelchair to bugger off so I accepted the leaflet.
Well didn't I walk straight into that one!! It was of course an invitation to arrange a 'bible' study with the JWs.
The most galling thing is it's a really beautiful day here and that poor kid is pushing this crap rather than playing out in the sunshine. It makes me so mad that his childhood memories will be based on how much time he counted rather than the carefree enjoyment of living for the moment. -

Good question LT
I hadn't realsied just how much time I spent reading this forum. I don't post very often but I read pretty much everything that's posted. So after going cold turkey yesterday I started one of the two essays I need to complete for Uni within the next 10 days and that's where I'm going now - back to exploring research paradigms - yeah (not) -

When I go out with my staff I dread it when one lady comes with us - rather than just split the bill (check) between us she lists what everyone had and asks them to pay their exact share - miserable cow.

So p*****d off - need to offload
by neverin ini am so angry - i've been a long term lurker here and an occasional poster but i have just got to offload tonight.
mom and i have never been 'in the truth' but my dad and 2 brothers are.
tonight my dad told me that last night he resigned as an elder (which for me personally is great) but the reason is that because both my parents have health issues, especially mom, my dad has been given 6 months to get his act together and put some more hours in field service as he is 'not leading by example'.

***my younger brother said that he felt sorry for me not being a witness as I would never know the love of the congregation.***
***bet that made you count your blessings ****
Not half!!! It's amazing how the only support I've had other than Mom, Dad and Hubby is from my 'wordly' friends. Mom and Dad have had no support only criticism ..... one elder came to my door (not realising it was mine) and when I challenged him about the covering up of child abuse he denied it happened so I revealed who I was and he didn't know where to put himself. He then proceeded to tell me that my mom shouldn't go around telling people from the congregation what had happened. When I told my Dad he went round to this blokes house and gave him short shrift and made him apologise to my Mom - way to go Dad!!
