  You seem to see things in absolutes. Freedom of religion does not have to be altered by banning the more extreme religions. Somebody else made a good point, that maybe they should just tax certain ones. I mean think about it; the JW's would love it..... look at how we are being persecuted now.... they are alienating us from mainstream religion, so we must be the ONE TRUE RELIGION!!!....(they would have to find some other story to tell their followers about why the Mormons, Scientologists, etc. are also being taxed/alienated, but I'm sure they could figure out some way to DENY that). In the meantime, we would have their tax dollars to solve legitimate problems like healthcare, etc.

  To use an example, some people could complain that they got their driver's licence, so they should be able to drive however they want........ the gov't doesn't need to BAN people from driving, instead they make rules, that, based on their severity, if you break them , you begin to PROVE to the rest of society that you don't deserve the RIGHT to drive anymore. The gov't, during that time was smart enough to train peoples' minds that "driving is a privilege". (No one ever complains when a privilege is taken away... only when a right is. They should begin to train people to understand that freedom of religion is a privilege as well and that, based on that religion's fairness to society, that religion's judgement of what is appropriate will be altered, if need be.

  And, to be honest, Czar, it surprises me that you are suggesting that God gave us freedom of religion!!!!! Gary Buss made a good point.......... God or whatever system we want to base our existence on, gave us free thought.......... religion tells us that it has to be within certain guidelines, BUT SOCIETY as a whole, ultimately decides if those BEHAVIOURS are good or fair for the world.

  What is your religious affiliation Meg? What are your insinuations regarding atheists? I am not one, but I am curious to read what you are suggesting.

  Czar,

  I'm sure you have other viewpoints in other areas that I would be in agreement with, and others that your objectivity would be more advanced than mine. But on this one, I still think that you are rationalizing something that shouldn't really be rationalized. I mean, sure, the world is, by nature, imperfect and I don't expect things to run perfectly, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't FIX things that are broken, and in general, try to make it a better place.

  Again, without intending to insult any individual Americans here, I think the gun thing has been broken for a long time. Crack dealers in Canada...... (and yes, we do have them here too) have a lot fewer guns to bring along to their drug deals, thus leading to fists doing the damage instead of bullets.

  It's a lot easier for me to sit here and suggest WHEN the U.S. should have adapted their gun laws, but at some point they should have been able to see that the "Constitutional right to bear arms" was doing more HARM than GOOD, and at a point in time close to that, it should have been amended. Sometimes when people (or gov't) miss an opportunity to correct a misjudgement, they seem to go into denial about it and eventually try to pretend that there never was ever that opportunity for correction.

  I've seen that thing in my personal life and in bigger things, and despite the fact that you think I was insulting you about the JW correlation.... I'll say it again, because it is relevant...... democratic countries have made the mistake for years....... that they have been so worried about "freedom of religion" that they allow organizations to prosper that by their very existence, steal this same freedom that was intended to be granted in the first place. The WTBTS, and many other extreme religions are perfect examples of this.

  Sweetie!! You're gonna develop an aneurism. Lighten up on the Bible prophecies and stuff. Read "The Tao of Pooh" or some other spiritual book other than the Bible, just for a change of pace......

  IMO, everbody should get their spiritual enlightenment from many sources, not just one.

  You already took a bit of a beating from others here, and rightfully so, IMO, so I'll go gently when I say that the red and white flag with the maple leaf on it, is a CANADIAN flag, not from some European country. The quote you were insulting was from Canada dude. From your coments, it does not surprise me that you are ignorant of that fact..... it goes along with your other ignorant comments about how the whole rest of the world is second class to you.

  Personally, I could very easily say that I don't give a shit if you don't amend the gun law....the very simple one that freaks like Charlton Heston preach about, where you have the basic right to bear arms. I mean, why should it bother me? I live in Canada.... it's not going to be my kids who get killed by that same crack dealer you didn't give a shit about... insinuating that no INNOCENT people get killed by guns..... GEEZ!!!! But I do care about those INNOCENT people.... you know why?..... because there are too many whacked out people like yourself that may convince others that your points are rational.... we need to oppose people like you just as much as we need to oppose/prevent hurting by organizations like the WTBTS.

  If you are no longer a JW, good for you, but I think you need to get some help with your perception of reality dude........ it doesn't sound very healthy to me.

  By the way, I do not classify all Americans in the same category as Czar... I know people like him are the minority, thank heavens.

  JWs and voting. Is it okay now?

  i know there has been lots of discussion on this issue in the past year but i have been unable to find it.

  i need to know where to find the questions from readers that talked about it being okay for people to vote if their concience allows.

  i brought this issue up with a couple of people, one a rank and file dub and the other an elder.

  Jez,

  I understand the point that you are making but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the leaders of the WTBTS are very brilliant people. IMO, they are just control freaks assembled in masses, who, for whatever reason, believe that it is proper for them to manipulate their followers. There are simply enough people who lack the critical thinking you speak of, that there is a market for their faith religion cult.

  It is unfortunate that these followers are so misguided spiritually, that they live their lives in subjection to these less than objective leaders, but that market will always exist.... just hopefully in less and less numbers.

  Can I make a suggestion to you, if it doesn't offend you?

  Put the Bible down for a week or so and go read the book titled "The Tao of Pooh". It is an assessment of the deeper teachings that A.A. Milne was trying to convey to humans when he wrote the "Winnie the Pooh" stories. It is an easy read and, unlike the Bible, it is almost impossible to interpret any of it with the FIRE AND BRIMSTONE crap found in the Bible. It will do your psyche good.

  Honestly, no offense intended to you personally, but you really seem to want us to JUDGE humans with this weird, obscure, and NEVER interpreted with any absolute certainty stuff written in the Bible. I, for one, refuse to get involved.

  I agree that hate is not good for anybody, especially the ones feeling it, and I feel more pity for the dubs individually than anything else. However, I have virtually no respect for the organization itself. I can separate that loathing from ill feelings towards an individual man.

  I have learned to protect myself from them, though.
