  it is good for the canadian parents here who are fighting to see their children and they are having their children's minds poisoned by the custodial parent.... a good case in canada.

  I'm sorry to hear about what you have gone through and even more about what Viv has gone through. It has had to have been hard on her.

  It is true that there is always a "second side" to the story, but I think the point of this $10,000.00 fine is that it was obvious that the mother had NO grounds to keep the father from her kids. In Canada, the benefit of the doubt goes very strongly to the mother. For a Judge to consider the father to be a good and capable father, he would have had to prove it over a period of time.

  Like my posts in this thread have shown, mothers are presumed to be the better parent and the father is not. It is a tough road for the men, in Canada at least. It's about damn time that Judges are stepping in. But how the hell it took seven years and fifteen court visits for ONE Judge to make the right call is still a travesty of justice.

  Vigil for my daughter, please.

  as mentioned in my other thread, my daughter lena is having brainsurgery on monday, jan 24. the surgery will last 6-7 hours, so i'm hoping the board members will be willing to make a special effort tomorrow to send positive thoughts, healing energy, good wishes and prayers her way.

  we are asking that the surgeon's hands be delicate and skillful and that lena does not bleed overmuch and that brain damage be minimal (if not non-existant).

  surgery begins at 8 am eastern standard time (us), but we have to have her to the hospital by 6 am, so this is "good night!

  Green Bible/Black Bible...?

  can any one tell me what the 'significant differences' are between the old green bible and new black bible?.

  having been a jw for almost forty years i never knew of a difference except that my mum is the only jw i know who still uses one.

  is it possible that i could show her anything 'interesting'?

  You hit the nail right on the head. Quietly indeed. Mention that one to current JW's and watch them use all of their diversion tactics that they can to avoid having to acknowledge what they put in THEIR OWN DAMN BIBLE, for Pete's sake.

  Yeah, God, by 1970, only revealed to his true followers that the universe was 48,000 years old!!

  Scientists revealed that eons before. But they were just egotistical men "going ahead of God". By 1984, God had decided to show his true followers a little more. What a blessing to be a chosen one of God brain-dead, mindless sheep.

  Like I said, I only somewhat disagreed with you. Maybe disagree was too strong a word even because I do understand what you are saying here too.

  The only point that I was trying to make besides yours was that, especially in children raised in the "troof", that it is not quite as conscious a thought as we may believe. I know personally I find it amazing that I believed in their crazy philosophy of life, but when I think back on it, it was my reality.

  Yes, a door was there, but it was more of a "very, very, very, very last resort should you ever go NEAR that door" sort of door. That makes their subculture so "sub" that it almost exists without any acknowledgemnt of anything else having any value. Dysfunctional people result from that.

  Regarding the jail thing, you might find my story interesting.

  Where I live, there is a "Zero-tolerance Policy". Basically, if a woman says a man did something to them, they are believed, the man is arrested, and the man must prove his innocence. In most cases, this works well, as the woman does not have to fear the man being let off by the cop and doing even more harm to her. It keeps her safe.

  However, it can be used the other way around. Three weeks after we broke up, my ex lied to the police and had me thrown in jail. (Not coincidentally, it was on what would have been our tenth anniversary.) That later got thrown out. Two and a half months later, she tried again. The police didn't believe her this time and even warned her that if she tried it again, she could be charged with criminal harassment. Eight days later she filed papers with the court to get a restraining order on me. $5,000.00 later, that got thrown out.

  So, the police no longer believed her and the Judges didn't believe her, so she hired a biker-affiliated guy to "beat me up". When the biker-affiliated guy got my side of the story before he "beat me up" he told them "nothing is going to happen to xxxx xxxxxxxx. because he didn't believe her either. She/her parents got angry and said, "I want him dead!! I want him dead!!". The biker let them know that he is now "protecting me" and if anything happens to me, they will pay......... and I am living happily ever after.

  Well, the "happily ever after" is not so easy, but eventually EVERY level of the law realizes where the problems lies.

  But, it is amazing to what lengths people will go to get back at their exes, a great deal of it at the expense of the kids.

  Justin,

  I think you make a very valid point as to why the JW's are generally so spiritually unfulfilled. For the first time ever, I think, I disagree somewhat with Narkissos' post.

  Whoever lives in a subculture knows that there is a wider world around and has to use different sets of codes and references. As JWs we didn't speak and behave with "worldly people" as we did with other JWs. Which means that we were conscious of the main culture and able to adapt to it (although awkwardly sometimes): we actually belonged to it too .

  This opinion is only from my personal experience and from examining JW's since I have been out. But I feel that while we (JW's) are somewhat conscious of the "main" culture, our firm belief that our "subculture" is absolutely correct does not even make us fully capable of belonging to the "main" culture. The "main" culture exists only to prove more fully that our "subculture" is correct.

  My point is that, although, in essense we did of course exist within this "main" culture, the complete lack of acknowledgement of any good coming from it, is what has created such unhappy, dysfunctional human beings who are/were JW's.

  By the way, I'm in the line with those dysfunctional ex-JW's.... I figured out the happiness part.... but integrating "normally" with the "main" culture is not quite so easy. teehee

  What was your turning point?

  what was it that was the real eye opener for you?.

  for me, it was after watching the video, "jehovah's witnesses; a non-prophet organization," and the point on how the org puts itself in a place between jesus and mankind.

  a position which does not exist scripturally.

  Ten and a half years ago, when my oldest child was born (I was df'd but I had been trying to go back and I was still very "in" mentally) my brother called me up and said that since I was the head of the household, if I never got reinstated before Armageddon, my child would die.

  I knew then and there that I could never serve this "Jehovah" God. 607 BCE, the "generation" change, the abuse cover-ups, etc.,after that, just confirmed to me that I had made the right decision.

  My friend who was on a pioneering holiday in some remote Scottish island, told me they had to stop using the green bible. The locals apparently would only speak to them if their bibles were black.

  I'm sure that some people may have not liked the Green Bible, but this was not the reason they switched the Bibles to being black (although I'm sure the GB just loves it when people believes these Urban Legends). Other than the Genesis time period covered being switched, as I mentioned earlier, I'm sure they had other BIGGER motives than people not liking the colour. Their naivete of believing in the literal 7,000 year creative day (leading to the 1975 fiasco) was something they had to distance themselves from, but I am hoping Alan F or others here can expose other reasons. Brad (By the way, I also heard that the Irish people want the Green Bibles back..... lol)

  I can relate to what you are saying. I've never really been able to figure out why some guys who treat women with little or no respect seem to attract a lot of women. It does seem, though, from observing this for quite some time, that a lot of these girls who are attracted to the "bad boys" are a little messed up themselves and can turn on the guy later, in a bad way.

  To find someone who is good for a happy, long-term relationship I still think you need to look for the good-hearted ones. Good things comes to those who wait.

  I learned that the hard way the first time. Patience, my friend, will pay off.

  I can't think of any right now, but I found it funny how Doogie would become a district overseer in 12 1/2 years but there would still be a 30 year wait to make the next step up to GB member.

  That says a lot, I think.
