my wife found this 1/4 page ad on page 2 of yesterday's nj star-ledger, probably the biggest newspaper in nj.
pretty telling.. .
Not entirely relevant to this thread but I just saw a post on reddit which linked to an Australian law firm who seem to be going after child abuse cases in JW land in Oz.
Thanks
Yeah, apart from the firms running the OP advert, I think there's a few going after JW child abuse cases now...

Jehovah's Witness Sexual Abuse Claims - As with other religious organizations, Jehovah's Witnesses have faced public criticism for allegations of sexual abuse within their congregations. Attorneys Fighting the Jehovah’s Witnesses for Covering up Child Sexual Abuse - Much like the Mormons, the Jehovah’s Witnesses create a very isolated community of followers that have little contact with non-members. i tried posting this yesterday morning - but it seemed to hand on 'queued for processing' - it's been 24 hours now and it hasn't appeared yet, so i'm posting again..... wednesday's episode of bbc tv's long running daily late-lunch drama/soap 'doctors' was centred on a jw-related 'blood' story - looking at the knock-on effect three years.. they don't mention jw, just god.
they've also taken a number of liberties in order to make the story work (sister giving out personal mobile number to man, making 'return visit' on man by herself etc.
the time frame for the story is also really only a few hours) - but it's an interesting twist on the usual portrayal as it looks at the knock-on effect three years.. you can watch it in full on the bbc webste via ipayer for the next couple of weeks.. wednesday 1 february 2017 - bbc one tv 1.45pm - doctors: a question of faith.

Without knowing it, a sister calls on a man on the three year anniversary of him losing his wife to leukaemia. He takes a magazine
He visits Doctors - asks for sedatives - but is refused - Doctor concerned regarding his drinking
Man returns home and phones up sister for her to come back and visit him straight-away.
He then drugs her drink of tea and reveals that he and his wife where JWs, but he lost his faith when his wife died due to the blood issue - he blames the sister for her death.
He kidnaps the sister and puts her in his basement - and says will only release her when she signs a piece of paper renoucing her faith.
He leaves her in the basement and goes back again to his wife's grave - his Doctor, who has been concerned with him, sees him there and chats with him - the man has been drinking liquor and seems to have taken some pills, but before passing out, gets his house keys out and tells Doctor to 'release her'

jehovah's witness abused girls after luring them with video games, court told.
This is the same story/article, but this one has slightly more information in it
To help with the geography a bit for people:
The first report said "he was living in Guisborough at the time" and "when the elders of the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Guisborough congregation heard about the allegations...."
The second report states that he "allegedly abused the girls in a village near Malton after putting them on his knee."
From Malton to Guisborough is a one hour, 37 mile drive north all the way through the North York Moors - there are a number of KHs either in or around both Malton and Guisborough.

Yes, I have seen that one, but I think mine is better quality being that it is in colour.
Actually, I was going through my own archive, and to be honest, it's fairly difficult to find stuff that isn't already available online in one form or another..... difficult, but not impossible
I do also greatly appreciate, as I'm sure lots of others do, the time and effort expended by various people to make these things available online.
i was on a job last week and the p.o from my old congro was there and told me they had just re modled the k.h.the r.b.c quoted them $240.000 they did it for $120.000 so why the big diffrence in price??

Hmmm, maybe that's one of the reasons for the WT disbanding the RBCs and bringing it all 'in-house' with the LDC - to stop this apparent over-pricing.
Under the old arrangment the RBC didn't pay the costs, they where all just passed onto the KH congregation/s to pay ALL the bills NOW.
Now with the new arrangement it is the LDC who pays the upfront direct cost - and who are therefore much more likely to be very careful with how they spend it - if they have a $100,000 budget, they are much more likely to want to spend it doing up as many KH's as they can (simply for the kudos off being seen to be busy and helping lots of KH) rather than spending it all on just one KH - previously it didn't matter, the direct upfront cost was borne, not by the RBC, but by the KH congregation/s - of course the KH congregation/s nowaday would pay a monthly contribution, but the above principle I think still applies.

Please note that a basic tenet of British law - which is where this court case is being heard - is that the accused are innocent until proven guilty, and the burden of proof is on the prosecution.
This is an on-going court case - as of the time that the above article was written, there had been NO conviction and NO guilty verdict/s.
The above brief article is also a summary of the prosecution's case, which is obviously being put forward in court as strongly as possibly.
Please re-read the full article.

BROTHER RUTHERFORD VISITS SYDNEY
In 1938 J. F. Rutherford, the Society’s president, visited Sydney for a convention, which was held in the Leichhardt Stadium. Plans were made for him to give the public talk at the Sydney Sports Ground, and contracts were signed for his address to be published in a morning newspaper and broadcast throughout the country by radio. By this time Brother Rutherford was well known for his outspoken remarks about the activities of the Roman Catholic Church in public affairs. As a result, the press and radio authorities wanted to censor his speech before handling it, but this was unacceptable to the brothers. So arrangements were made to include it in a booklet under the title Freedom or Romanism? One million copies of this bright-red “bombshell” were printed for distribution throughout Australia. Meanwhile, Brother Rutherford was the center of intense publicity. As a result, close to ten thousand people came to hear him speak. At that time there were only 1,300 Witnesses in all Australia, so the witness given was great indeed.
One of the reasons for Brother Rutherford’s visit was to examine complaints about certain commercial activities that the Australian branch had developed to give brothers employment. He was satisfied that these things were not harming the preaching of the good news and commended Brother MacGillivray on his initiative. However, later on these enterprises were to bring trouble and difficulty.

Married Paul Shields denies assaulting the youngsters as they played the games
1 FEB 2017
A Jehovah’s Witness sexually abused three young girls after luring them with video games, a court was told.
Paul Shields, 57, who was living in Guisborough at the time, allegedly sexually touched the youngsters, who at the time were too young to understand the seriousness of Shields’ actions, said prosecutor Andrew Espley.
The prosecution alleges that Shields, a married father and former plumber, repeatedly abused the girls when he was in his 30s.
Mr Espley said it was not until 2014 that two of the women, who were under-age at the time of the alleged offences, reported the matters to police.

not too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.
that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.
so, why are there so few of them online?
steve2: JW organization uses a similar count, boasting that so many hundred thousand visit JW.org each day - but that is an exaggeration because individuals may visit it on more than one occasion on any one day.
haha! fascinaing how steve2 just so happens to bring this thread around to this week's study material from the God's Kingdom Rules! book
