McFarland Lawsuit

i am not sure if anyone heard but it does appear that the mcfarland v watchtower lawsuit has been settled.

the court only shows that it was settled so there was no longer a need for a status conference.

that is all that i know on this.

A former member of the West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lorain filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the congregation, alleging she was sexually abused by one of the church leaders.
"I want to expose how they treat children and how they do not protect them," Elizabeth McFarland, 26, said at a news conference in Cleveland.
McFarland claims Scott Silvasy, who served as a "Ministerial Servant," gained her trust then sexually abused her for five years, beginning when she was 9 years old. She said Silvasy committed suicide on her 16th birthday.

ANGOLA - JW Regional Convention target of attack.

according to news sources in luanda, angola (read it here, although it's in portuguese language), a regional convention of the jw's taking place this weekend at the outskirts of capital luanda was targeted yesterday, friday, by what may be described as a 'terrorist attack'.. more than 400 attendees (mostly female) passed out in rapid succession in the vicinity of a toilet at the convention place.

reportedly, toxic gas devices were planted there by 3 young members of unita, the main political party that opposed mpla, the dominant regime party in angola since its independence in 1975.

43 people were rushed to the hospital and a few remain there, under medical surveillance.

You could always ask her what she means by 'nothing serious' - but maybe it is a 'relative' thing, how would we have viewed it if it had happened at an event that we where attending....

On Friday morning, August 25, 2017, during a convention being held at the Viana Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Luanda, Angola, 405 attendees were rendered unconscious when assailants released toxic gas in the main auditorium and separate restroom facilities. Fortunately, the gas was not lethal and no one was killed. The victims were taken to local hospitals and most were treated and released within a few hours. The incident is being investigated by the local authorities; three men were arrested and taken into police custody on Friday afternoon.
The branch office in Luanda reports that all of the victims are recovering well. It was noted that those in attendance did not panic and worked together to care for the injured. In cooperation with recommendations from the local police, the Friday afternoon session of the convention was canceled. However, the convention resumed successfully without major incident on Saturday, August 26, and Sunday, August 27. Attendance reached a peak of over 12,000, and 188 were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

it's only a matter of time of course..... jw rumor mills will start up soon, with stories of how jws were "first on the scene" as the flood waters receded..... how the red cross and/or us national guard and/or doctors without borders and/or [you name it] were marveling at just how "organized" the jws are..... how zealous jws were pulling their trolleys thru ankle-deep water to "offer comfort" to victims, by giving them - sandwiches?

to offer them comfort by giving them 16 page "magazines" to read in their spare time..... so as the stories start to come in, you can "deposit" those little nuggets of bs here.. once collected, we'll wrap them in a pretty bow and flush them away where other instances of pure manure go..

The spokeswoman said: "Somerset Care is a not-for-profit company with no shareholders. Any surplus is reinvested in the business. Unfortunately we cannot sustain loss-making services without jeopardising the viability of the whole company."

we all know the moment that a nice family chat is moving to the propaganda game.. sister in law saying that jw.org is the highest ranked website, cousing saying that the new hq is energy neutral, aunt stating that jw have the best education.... what can we say on these moments?.

that br splane just likes these new light ideas?.

that a jw.org video stated that jw use the name jehovah because people recognize this name?.

StephaneLaliberte: The App connects to jw.org. Hence, usage statistics include the Mobile App. That being said, i would not expect for reused applications to count more then once as they would be downloaded only once.

It appears that the WT have decided to run virtually their entire digital footprint through just one central website, and the WT is also very centrally organized - this helps explain why it is so popular.

Other organizations etc often appear to run their digital footprint over a multitude of (IMHO confusing) websites, which divides their individual popularity.

Personally I have no doubt that the (vast?) majority of visitors to the jw.org website are JWs themselves, but that does not negate their visits.

It wasn't me. It was Gorbatchov's sister-in-law. I'm just a messenger.

But it was certainly interesting to see the cognitive dissonance and strawman justification that her answer lead too...

(btw as a side thought - I don't think we should confuse the website with the app which I believe operate independently? - the JWs can get all the stuff they need for meetings and ministry from the app, without ever actually visiting the website - in fact I know some JWs who never (or hardly ever) actually visit the website, but only use the app).

Is it important? No. Although of course, it was important enough for YOU to ask for a citation, and Gorbatchov's sister-in-law gave you not one, but two.

But the bottom-line is: Having a website, whether it is popular, or not, does not prove that the JW's are the 'right' religion.

Now it is time for that sister-in-law to ask Gorbatchov a question: have you managed to find anything more out about all those Jewish Women?
