Yesterday, stumbled upon this contradictory gem:
May 1979 KM, Page 4.
"12 Since many of us include attending the assembly during our vacation period, we should be careful that the convention spirit does not become a vacation spirit. Otherwise, this may cause the importance of the convention to fade in the minds of ourselves or of our children. Should this be allowed to happen, it would interfere with our joy in assembling as Jehovah’s people, due to the fact that our minds would be preoccupied with having a good time in a fleshly way rather than with the good spiritual things that Jehovah is providing.—2 Tim. 3:4, 5."
The same KM states:
"11 Sometimes negative comments about conduct at assemblies have to do with young ones. Since we live in a corrupt and permissive society, great effort is required to shape youthful personalities in harmony with Jehovah’s will."
Our family had ONE family vacation - PERIOD - during my childhood.
The rest of our vacation periods were spent driving long journeys to some city for way-too-long conventions. At those cities, we never saw a thing, other than the convention site, as per WTS REAL teaching. (There's no better way to wake up from drifting off to sleep in the hot sun, then having your dad sitting behind you with a very solid crokinole flick to the ear.)

by Zoos inthou shalt not stay at a hotel that is not on the rooming list.
work prevented me from attending our assigned district (regional) convention so i arranged my schedule to attend in a different city/weekend.
i know that's not a problem, brothers and sisters do it all the time.

Sorry.
When I conducted the Field Service group, I arranged / rearranged the group as I saw fit. I remember the dismay of 2 "seniority" sisters when I assigned them how I wanted, when they had previously made plans to work together.
Too bad, I'm the authorized talking penis - do what I want.

Although this has been well-covered online and in print, it is interesting to see the elder and lawyers spew their drivel.
The assertion that WTS protects spiritually, and physical protection is up to the secular authorities is disgusting.

Baptized in July 1971, but he married Susan in December 1971.
Doesn't sound like Susan was a "spiritual woman" to me, to marry a "newly dedicated" man, and a man who was most likely not even a ministerial servant.

Our first child was 3 weeks old at the scheduled convention.
One hotel that was closer than the convention parking lots was never on the approved list.
But, despite the wife's protests, I booked the hotel anyways.
And always had a tinge of conscience thereafter (didn't tell "the friends" what heinous sin we committed).
