Just started watching on Netflix.
I'm hooked. (Wished Breaking Bad continued.)
I so thought of JW's Cult Cart and NH after NH after NI after NI work. (Although the walkers do have more personality than most JW's.)
My thoughts on "the walking dead" JW style!
approximately 25 yrs ago today, i left the borg forever.. .
thank you jwn/jwd for helping me heal by listening to me.
there are not many greater gifts than freedom..
Thank you for sticking around to help others with thoughtful posts.
so, my mum is a massively obedient little dub!
i knew this before showing more negativity towards the borg.
i recently fell into the trap of shooting my mouth off about all the things that i felt were wrong with the borg, after her ass kissing comments got the better of me.. my other half's grandmother has also learned ttatt over the past few months as has most of her immediate familly in fact.
I remember not long after my exit quoting something to my parents from the Proclaimers book. My mum responded by sarcasticly asking my dad, "and how old is the Proclaimers book?"
My wife said the same thing about a WT article I referenced. ?????
Shouldn't WT literature be obligated to have printed on it a "Best Before Date?"
definition of weltschmerz1: mental depression or apathy caused by comparison of the actual state of the world with an ideal state 2: a mood of sentimental sadness.
as a jw, horrific news and reports of terrible suffering and tragedy never especially shocked or disturbed me because of the conviction i had that it was all temporary suffering caused by satan and the demons and it was soon to end and be replaced by a wonderful new system where all those who suffered and died would be resurrected.
it took the edge off life's harshness.. these fantastical beliefs innoculated me against really feeling and empathisizing with the reality of the horror and suffering experienced by so many in this world.
I spoke with 3 Muslims this week.
One was a female Ismaili Muslim, whom another sort of looked down upon because they accept a prophet subsequent to Muhammad. I told her my story and, like so many non-JW's, she was stiunned at the brutality of JW's.
The 3rd was a young, attractive Caucasian convert wearing a hijab. Her absolute enthusiasm for Islam was infectious, more than that of 99% of JW's just punching the clock. She was indignant with the terrorists who bring dishonour to the religion.
Any Muslim I have ever met is nothing short of a gracious gentleman/lady.
IMO, Islam is not going down.

Constantly hearing that the best use of our time and money was preaching to people instead of actually helping them cannot but create a disturbed personality.
Handing a starving unfortunate a tract is stupid.

According to the lawsuits, the abuse began in 1988, shortly after Afanador migrated from another Connecticut congregation to the East Spanish Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses New Haven after a mother in the previous congregation claimed he molested her children. Afanador was reportedly sanctioned by the other congregation but not expelled, which enabled him to move on to East Spanish.
Should be an interesting case.
Hopefully, they don't settle.
i'm being deadly serious - many, many years ago, an english (uk) visiting speaker, giving a talk on science and the bible, made the statement:.
"as we speak, there is a probe that is nearing uranus.".
myself and one other brother were just dying trying to control an explosion of laughter.. i so desperately wanted to yell out: "and they're searching for klingons.".
One of my favourite old-timers had the coolest sense of humour - never cracked a smile.
He was the chairman and started the meeting: "If everyone could find a place for their seats."
No one got it but one other brother and me.
in my most recent talk, i got counseled for using some terms that were not prefered.
for example i said "new testament" rather than "the christian greek scriptures".
i also used the term "gospel", but even worse, i made reference to the "synoptic gospels" and the "gnostic gospel".. i guess i never thought of it before, but when i looked at the societies information on the matter they always say things like, "the so-called new testament..." or "the so-called synoptic gospels..." why with all the "so-called?".
"Bullet in" board was from the war.
