1000 Years is Like 1 Day?

anyone else hear about this.

as all j-dubs know, whenever someone complains about how long the "new system" is taking too arrive, they use the excuse that jehovah works on his own time.

quite a few times during the public talks, i've heard speakers say the phrase "1000 years to us is only one day to jehovah" (my parents never stop talking about this).

Fudging The Numbers JW Style

i know most of us have probably figured this out already, but remember the good old days where you could only count full hours in the ministry?.

then one of the gb get some "new light" from their ass and proclaim that they lovingly will allow people to report 30mins, then even 15mins of time.

this was, supposedly, so that the old and infirm could have a joy in the ministry and report what little they could do.

It isn't the number of hours that prompted this change. It was to increase the number of members.

Shaklee and Long Distance Telephone Plans

i just had a random recall about jws and what they used to peddle.. in my area of pennsylvania (usa), there was a brother who used to be the shaklee dealer.. there was also a brother who owned his own landscaping company and sold long distance phone plans.

in fact, i remember 3 brothers who sold lond distance plans.. did anyone else experience these products or others?

There was an MLM ring in our area.

Everyone would join the others'.

Stupid stuff.

Long distance, cable TV,, natural gas, electricity, etc. At least 25% higher than market prices (always a long-term contract) - but the salesperson would get a very small piece of the marked-up price.

this indeed has been stated in the past.. an equally interesting phrase in that paragraph is: "of course, jesus did not tell us that his faithful slave would produce perfect spiritual food.".

again, wt is using the "jesus never said" line.. what would make more sense is: "jesus never said that the food would be imperfect or harmless.".

Again, WT is using the "Jesus never said" line.

What would make more sense is: "Jesus never said that the food would be imperfect or harmless."

And, Feb 15, 1981 WT states: "Jehovah is not pleased if we receive that food as though it might contain something harmful."

Jehovah must be quite messed up, if dispensed food could be harmful, but Dubs are expected to consume it anyways.

(Also Luke 6:43  For no fine tree produces rotten fruit)

(That 1981 WT also says "True, the brothers preparing these publications are not infallible. Their writings are not inspired")

This post quotes the Borg letter which states that it will be online this year in October.

For what it is worth, I predict the numbers in the 2017 yearbook are going to look better than those in 2016.

I bet the same as 2016 - growth in Africa and South America - very stagnant in the western world.

The 2018 Yearbook will be the most interesting.

Three hotels are especially interested in buying Watchtower’s property in Brooklyn, namely the Three Seasons, Ritz Carlton and a company called the Taj which also makes cars. They would like to make the Brooklyn property into a new “ SoHo .” [By “SoHo” it is assumed Johnny meant SoHo in Lower Manhattan, NYC, an international art and art gallery center rather than Soho in the U.K. , a trendy area formerly with many sex trade businesses.]
Gilead School classes will be phased out. While it is being phased out those who would have been going abroad as missionaries will instead be given their special assignments in cities, not rural places (recently City Overseers were phased out).

They could do away with the Awake altogether. Other literature items could be scaled back to just cover the publishers and family.
I remember a few years ago trying to guess what steps the WTS would take to cut back on expenses(scaling back the Awake to once a month!). Applying Matt. 24:14 was genius. I never even thought of that route. What a great way to eliminate a wasteful printing program. Tie it into bible prophecy - the r&f will easily fall for that excuse. Plus, it covers over the fact that they are getting killed with their expenses. The jdubs will never know what is really going on. They will simply get all fired up that the work is ending and armageddon is sooo close now!
I wouldn't be surprised if they just used tracts out in service, if they continue to go out in service. I imagine that there will still be some sort of field activity to qualify brothers for work and to keep tabs on the r&f's "faith meter."

Pretty good guessing for 10 years ago.
