Guilty Fast Food Pleasures
by Swan inokay, what is the one fast food that you just love, but are a little ashamed to admit to?.
a detective character (sue grafton's kinsey milhone) in some mysteries i read has these guilty fast food pleasures.
just about every day she runs for miles on the beach, but then she is invariably ends up ducking into the mcdonald's drive thru with her little vw and scarfing a big mac or quarter pounder.

JWs and charitable work
by kj ini've read on here several times about how jws are discouraged for doing charitable work for anybody other than jws, and that they are discouraged from contributing financially to non-jw charities.
are there some references to this in their literature that someone could point me to?.
also, i had a discussion with a jw about a recent relief effort some jws did in florida.

does anyone else know something about this? I really am curious as to whether the WT makes a profit by doing this. Thanks.

Also, I had a discussion with a JW about a recent relief effort some JWs did in Florida. They said that some JWs went to Florida after the hurricanes hit, and they went to help fellow witnesses repair their damaged homes AND that the society paid for the materials. They said that the brothers did the labor for free, and the society paid for the materials, and in return, when the homeowner's insurance came through, the money is supposed to go back to the society. Now, here is my question- since the labor was done for free, doesn't the society stand to make a profit if all of the insurance money is paid to them? I'm not sure how that works, but wouldn't an insurance payment cover labor and materials? Can someone please let me know if I'm understanding this correctly?
By the way, Merry Christmas to all of you!

Can the Bible be used to disprove the Witnesses
by jaredg inlately i have been arguing with my father about my beliefs and such.
i belive that the wbts is not the faithful and discrete slave and i don't agree with many of the wbts techings.
the easiest way for me to do this is to discredit the bible but this isn't working with my father.

The story of the prodigal son is a good one, too. His father forgave him immediately, he did not have to grovel for any elders.

It's hard to use the Bible against them, because they twist scripture so badly anyway. Their own literature is their worst enemy, do some digging and show him some of their own contradictions.
Sounds like you have a much more Christian lifestyle than most JWs.

Welcome Puff Candy! I'm sorry about your mom, I know how you feel. My mom is a JW, too, and I never was and NEVER WILL BE. My mom still has a lot of loyalty towards her non-JW family, though, so I feel very fortunate. You will learn a lot here, and hopefully it will help you not to be manipulated. Who knows, maybe you'll even be able to give her some food for thought that may help her leave.
