Meetings
by pontoon inso remember how assembling together is a command and no man or government can stop us, even if it means going 'underground', even if means being arrested, jailed, beat....can't stop us from assembling together----until covid.
now it's "false regligion" fighting for their constitutional right to meet together while the jws seem to be perefectly happy zooming their lives away..

how do spouse's treat their partners if they leave the cult?
by mickbobcat inso i was fortunate enough to have a wife that listened and saw what i was saying was true and that the cult is bs.
but i wonder how bad it is in a relationship that one goes out of the cult and the other stays in.
i can see that being a real issue for a marriage.

My wife after my being inactive 3 years and irregular 7 has somewhat accepted my beliefs or lack of. When Im staying with her family in the philippines I will at times attend a meeting. But the good news is I see in the younger generation of my neices the streak of rebellion. If only someone would write a book for. Jws to show them the bible is not God's word.... Oh wait. That's what I'm doing 😂😜 for them
Ny wife and I have a good relationship outside jws. I told my wife I'm learning tai chi over Internet in morning and. She accepted it

Beth's list:
Proclaimers Book. Why? I have found so many holes in this book as for as witness history goes.
Live Forever Book - original printing. Yeah the pictures are funny. Especially the one with the French model and the demons. Not useful other then to show the idea of the generation ending in the 1980s..
Reasoning From the Scriptures. Yes this one is good for JW doctrine. I personally hated this book.
Revelation Climax - original printing.( but actually any copy will do) WTF... Nuff said
My Book of Bible Stories - original printing (again any copy will do) I learned to read from the audio of this played along to the book. But this book is a sad look at horror stories.

I have seen many movies or shows that make a passing reference to Jehovah's Witnesses but very few dwell on JWs. Some like a Deadly Devotion Episode I saw once tells a true story but the portal of JWs is all wrong. By movies I am not talking of documentaries. Those seem to abound today. I mean a story. As such I have seen four legitimate and very accurate portrayals of Jehovah's Witnesses with a couple of oddballs.
1. Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk: This is 99% accurate. The only mistake is not a mistake but a copyright change from WT magazine to Truth magazine. Otherwise the portrayal of JWs is amazingly accurate and the book 'Crisis of Conscience makes an appearance halfway through the movie in the hands of an elder lol
2. Apostasy: Unlike the first I hate this movie. The coloring in the film is so bland and brown it's depressing. Otherwise the story is also 99% accurate and very sad.
3. Worlds Apart: 75% accurate. The story is a true story but the portrayal of certain witness activities is questionable. Such as sister preaching in pants in service. The elders with a beard is accurate for Denmark. The movie is a favorite of mine, The songs and books are changed for copyright otherwise I would lace this at 90%
4. Big Eyes: Okay this is not for Ex JWs I guess. It portrays JWS in a good light however since it is based on a true story and a well known one in JW land. (I remember the sister's biography in the magazines) The turht is good actors are in this movie that add some humor to it. In fact it's a good general movie. The Jehovah's Witnesses are portrayed 7-% accurate. Yes the truth book and NWT make an appearance. The only reason I rated it slightly low is the movies doesn't dwell that much on JWs,
Now for my hall of shame:
Witnesses of Jehovah
Witness at your Door
These are 100% accurate but rate very low by me. These two movies are from a woman that left one religion for an even worse religion. That being said they are very humorous.

Ok dropoff makes a point:
I have the KJV, ASV and Diaglott along with the Byington that JWs printed.
The All scripture book I don't find useful but the difference between the two versions is telling. The old book said in the section on Genesis that the universe was 49000 years old. The newer version of the All Scripture book changed this to 'In the Beginning'.
I also agree that the old Theocratic Ministry school book is useful for public speaking.

Seeing on another post here about former JWs throwing away literature. I am curious as to the various opinions on there value.
For me I have been inactive for 3 years almost 4. I still have alot of books and of course all their bibles ever produced (except a few from the 1800s.)
In my opinion I think there are four books the JWs produced that are useful:
1. The Aid book. This actually has some unique secular sources and sometimes if you read between the lines the archeology mentioned is damning to the JWs. I have found the names in the book is always paired with a definition in Hebrew or Greek showing damningly that alot of the people are made up. (Check out the names in the book of Ruth) I also understand Ray Franz worked on this book.
2. The NWT 1984 REFERNCE Edition. The large brown one. With the thousands of footnotes and translation issue the bible brings up the reference bible is useful for examining the biblical text.
3. Mankind's Search for God. Well if you ignore a few chapters the book does a good job of explaining many of the world's religions and for that I fell it is somewhat useful.
4. The Kingdom Interlinear 1969/1985. This is obviously useful since it has the Greek text of Westcott and Hort next to the NWT. (Amazing they even produced this!) In truth I prefer Green version which uses the Textus Receptus but this is a good stab at the NT Greek.
I personally would not throw anything out before 2000. The WT is currently making a study bible . (The have done Matthew- Ephesians) and soon they will have the whole bible done. Once that is complete I can imagine they will shelf the previous books and literature. Online I have found everything back to Russel in PDF texts. It might fill a flsh drive but the amount of crap the WT said is horrible. (Apparently Germ theory is wrong and Aluminum is a sin. lol)

JW's and medical marijuana
by QuestioningEverything injust wondering what the current jw stance is on medical marijuana.

A year or two ago I was in horrific neurological pain. I took some capsules of marijuana oil and they left me disconnected from the pain. Not perfect but ok. Truth be told though the amount of codeine I was taking was way worse for my health them those capsules.

I highly doubt christians went door to door until the very late second century. More likely third.Adnt hey had all sort of beliefs. Some were Gnostics, Some we would roughly call Caothlics, Some were Messianic Jews. Some were like JWs. Arian. Did they carry scrolls. No. How cumbersome and dumb. If they carried anythign it would have been a codex of selected books. But not door to door. In church.

Watchtowers next big revenue stream!
by nowwhat? inevidently it would seem the wt sold the rights and will get royalties from "listen obey and be blessed.." this obviously is a trial balloon for what's to come.
kim and mikey alluded to this and i have been wondering why they are planning on spending hundreds of millions on a new movie studio in n.y. and also in australia just for the benefit of the few million jdub's.
well here's the answer, they are going to make money off the royalties from their music and video content selling to other church groups.

There are several song in the JW songbook that are universal. I already mentioned the eastern religion song of 77.Using Jehovah is not restricted to JWs. If Pollyanna, Indiana Jones and Ben Hur can say it as well as Life of Brian in just all can. Truth be told most Christians know the name of God in the KJV at least is Jehovah. In factI listened to a podcast of a normal dude reading the KJV that at Exodus 6:3 figured out LORD is Jehovah.
Since many protestant religions use Jehovah the JWs can sell their songs easliy.

There are 3 very accurate movies about JWs
1. Confessions of Teenage Jesus Jerk is most accurate.
2. Worlds Apart from Denmark is second
3. The last one is Apostasy and is lower because of the horrific imagery and dark 1970's tones.
The two movies by Lori McGregor need not be mentioned as they lead from one religion to another
