Faith-Apostasy-Atheism
by DoubtingThomas ini have been on m any different forums, and only carm is similar to this.. all the rest have rather hypocritical trust in god.. this and carm are for those who apostate to the wtbs and to god.. turned off by the gb, or hypocritical examples in the congregation, they drop worshiping god and their belief in the bible... for they know too much,.
that's why scripture isn't discussed, and jws like me, are demonized.. i am cool with that!
maybe some of you will come to their senses!.

New World Translation is not much different other translations
by Abraham1 inkey scripture 2 timothy 3:16 should have been translated as “every scripture inspired of god is also profitable for teaching” like many other serious translations (such as american standard version ; douay-rheims bible etc) as it is what the greek text says.. this is in harmony with the contents of bible and also with the writer paul himself who knew after his departure ‘even from his own number men will arise and distort the truth.’ (acts 20:29-30) for example, verses such as romans 7:19 is such distortion.
such verses cannot originate from real paul who was “holy, righteous and blameless.” (1 thessalonians 2:10) hence paul had the freeness of speech to tell others to be “blameless” like him (1 thessalonians 5:19-23; ephesians 5:24) there are many things in the scriptures which are not inspired such as words of satan, words of job’s wife and his false friends, words of judas, lot’s daughters …etc.
apostle peter never disowned jesus because if he had done so, his contemporaries would have interrupted him when he rebuked jews, saying: “you disowned the holy and righteous one and asked that a murderer be released to you.“ (acts 3:14) his listeners would have asked him “what right do you have to reprove us for ‘disowning jesus” when you yourself have done it first?” all such verses or accounts were later adoptions.

I wasn't going to comment then I saw this nonsense: Jesus’ opening verse on the Sermon on the Mount was: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (matthew/5-3) Greek Test doesn’t allow it to be put it differently
Then blame other translations like the NT in modern English that render it that way. The nwt was not alone

GB 2021 Update #10 - "get vaccinated"
by neat blue dog inam the turd comes the closest to just coming right out and telling jws they have to do it.
he says, 'there's no need to worry, just keep doing what works: wear masks, wash your hands and get vaccinated when possible'.
the busybodies are going to be even more insufferable now than they have been.

Apparently the wt Hass in this case decided to trust science. I worry about the anti vaxers on this board who do realize germ theory was proved 150 years ago. Like evolution but of course the WT can partition science it seems.

Isn't Canada Great, even close to a Spiritual Paradise?
by Disillusioned JW ina moment ago i clicked onto the link at https://bigglobaltravel.com/cities/funny-pictures-canada-yh/?utm_campaign=canada%20pictures%20shira1606%20dup0109%20msn%20edg%20en%20-%20desktop%20usa%20ya&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=msn_us&utm_content=msn.com&psl=g_61cd4e&network_code=cm which shows slides of canada.
viewing those slides (in combination with the other things i have seen and heard about canada) made me feel that maybe canada is about as close as one can get in the western world to a nation which is now a spiritual paradise, much like a new peaceful order now.
imagine that the usa would never have had a civil war.

Hmm. I live here.. for now.. It's not a paradise but...I don't know what you have been reading or watching but Canada's so-called spiritual paradise involves murdering thousands of native children for not being Christians.
Brother XII lived not far away a century ago he thought he was making a spiritual paradise too.
As far as housing prices. Sure Vancouver is singled out. Why anyone wants to live there is beyond me. Prices are better in other places.
Canada has a BAD justice system in my opinion.

Lloyd Evans keeps doing parts on how the JWs are guilty of follwing the bible.
by mickbobcat ini have been watching evans videos for a while.
he keeps attacking the cult for following the bible.
women are to be subservient to men.

I agree with what Lloyd is doing but to be honest a theological outlook to the bible is damaging not only to one's sanity but to the bible itself. Sure Lloyd made a funny video on 1 Samuel 15 with his famous "Stab, Stab Stab, Death, Death Death." comments. The fact is that if you read the same story in the Iliad no one would complain, See how a theological view of the bible is damaging?
The best way to read the bible is open and ready for any arguments presented. (Which are often side by side)

2700 years ago Jews ate pigs
by fulltimestudent infrom haaretz newspaper:.
what does a pig skeleton discovered in jerusalem say about first temple era jews?.
the argument here is that sanctions on eating pork were only introduced in the 2nd temple era.. so what does that tell you bout biblical accuracy.. .

There is an interesting issue here. Prof. Israel Finkelstein has noticed in his work the lack of pig bones in Israel.. (Northern Kingdom) But this article points down to Judah. I think you will find the Egyptians also didn't eat pigs. (I might be wrong about that I just remember reading it somewhere)
Judah in 700 BCE was actually a brand new kingdom after the fall of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Not only that they intermarried with the Assyrian rulers thus adapted their customs. (It is likely Hezekiah and Sennacherib were first cousins.)
As for the law against pork in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 13 I actually would date them to the second century BCE after the overthrow of the Seleucids whose diet rich in pork was offensive to the now reigning Hasmoneans. (According to 2 Maccabees chapter 6 a man was forced to eat pork by having it forced down his throat and being beaten to death.)

Genesis 18:27
by JPG123 inin genesis 18:27 it says:.
but abraham again responded: “please, here i have presumed to speak to jehovah, whereas i am dust and ashes.. but when referencing the interlinear translation of the old testament, it clearly uses the hebrew word “adonai” instead of “yahweh” in this verse.
was abraham referring to god as “lord” in this verse?.

viere
The Iliad was likely written in the 700s or 600s BCE however it deals with stories of a real war in the 1100s or 1200s BCE So the Iliad is based on earlier sources.
The same can be said for the book of Kings. The material in the acts of the kings of Judah or the acts of the kings of Israel are documents that possibly come from the exilic period and even those would be based on court records. (We know this because some of the Kings and events mentioned in those works line up with history)
Now coming to Ovid. You are right in that he wrote in the first century BCE. The story of Baucis and Philemon is contained in a large work called Metamorphoses. (Book VIII) https://david-drake.com/2013/metamorphoses-baucis-and-philemon/
The stories contained in Metamorphoses are far older than Ovid. Hesiod doesn't have the story in the 700s BCE so the original story could have spanned anywhere between 700-100BCE
I believe Genesis was written in the supplementary form in the 200s BCE however even ultra-conservative scholars that date the composition of Genesis in the Persian period are still well within that range, However minimalist dates like mine allow Greek influence.
