Explaining away the increase in anointed

so i was just informed by my wife that her grandmother (who's also out) has been told by a 'sister' from her old hall that during their most recent circuit visit the co said something along the lines of:.

isn't it faith strengthening that the number of anointed is falling in relation to the increase in publishers?

The whole anointed partakers thing is so weird when viewed objectively. Not necessarily the doctrine (in my view, there's weirder doctrine in mainstream christianity) but the obsession with tracking it. It causes otherwise normal (as normal as a jw can be, I guess) people to look at some stat that says 14k people partook, and they instantly thing "why don't they just die!"

When I was a pre-teen and we were going through the revelation book, when we got to the part about the 144k and that there would still be some left when the GT started (this being when the 144k was "evidently" sealed in 1935) I found myself wondering what if someone were to track them all down and kill them. Could we force god to bring armageddon sooner? This person would be doing a great kindness to all the JWs who were so eager for the end. Presuming that this person would be killed at armageddon, wouldn't this be a selfless act? Now, I'll admit that I've always thought about rather morbid things like this, but I've gotta think that if your religion's doctrine makes a kid think about killing 10,000 people, there might be something wrong with it.

His letter asking the WTS to print an apology is pretty good. The only thing I wish for was that he wouldn't have mentioned ex-jws in it. I'm trying to decide whether or not to show it to my wife (Im already planning on showing her the misquotes this week) because I don't want her to come back with the typical character assassination that comes when an ex-jw is mentioned.

You weren't too far off-base there - the Cult Awareness Network (CAN) was an anti-cult organization until members of Scientology successfully sued them, drove them to bankruptcy, then bought them. Now the website appears to be an anti-cult organization but they use it to recruit people who are leaving other cults and to report people who have begun to investigate their cult. I wouldn't put it past the WTS to eventually try the same trick.

I guess I'll state that my wife and I both prefer hard-copies, then we'll see how many extras I can take and trash.

So which should I do? Request a physical copy to cost them marginally more, or go electronic and get as many hard copies as I can?

Maybe this year I'll go around and get copies from all the different folks handing them out, then throw 'em away in the bathrooms.

it is simply an awesome movie for every thinking witness, or those trying to break free from the org's hold on us.. i wont give away too much, but the concept of the film is mind blowing!

utopia vs reality etc... conformity vs individuality and humanity... etc.

Read the book in school, and watched the movie recently. I agree that for those of us that are dealing with a spouse that's still in, this is a great moving to watch at home and make thought-provoking comments. My strategy was to point out all the clear signs of extreme levels of control that are also present in JW world, and ridicule the characters for their failure to recognize them.

I thought the movie did a very good job of staying faithful to the spirit of the book. As is typical much of the back story was left out, but for having a limited amount of time they did quite a good job. I don't remember all the minor story lines in the book, so there might've been some deviation there, but nothing that affected the overall plot. For someone that usually comes away with the tired cliche of "the book was so much better" I was pretty satisfied with the movie.

New WTS end date - 2034?

so i already made an introductory thread where i said hello and mentioned my feelings toward 2034 being the wts new end date.. we get the year 2034 from matt 24:37 & luke 17:26. the wt commented on the "days of noah" in a qfr article 2010 12/15.

where its stated: "it is logical, therefore, to conclude that genesis 6:3 expresses gods resolve to end the corrupt system of things on earth.

jehovah issued a judicial decree to do so in 120 years, though noah was not yet aware of that.

It certainly wouldn't be surprising. The current GB has likely all but forgotten the 1975 fiasco (I think sanderson would've been all of 10 years old) and probably the lessons learned along with it. In 10 years or so the GB will probably include a few more guys that have forgotten 1975, or weren't around at that time. If they've all bought into the lie that it was a few JWs that were overzealous with their speculation, it would be awfully tempting to start implying that 2034 is the new date.

Also, I think the JWs could really use a new end-times prediction. In the near term it'll get everyone amped up again (which will bring in the cash) and in the long term it'll clear out the fence-sitters (who probably aren't giving money anyway) which will allow consolidation of KHs (more cash coming in). Then, after it's all said and done, there will be left a fiercely loyal group of core followers who will actually be more convinced than ever of the divinity of the GB by the whole thing because it will be just too costly to admit that they've devoted all their time and resources to false prophets.

out of the blue my wife started to ask me about my feeling about the borg.

i told her i didn't want to talk about it...she persisted.

she already knows how i feel, i told her that my biggest beef is that they use mind control, and yep she went in to how i was an apostate and how she doesn't want to be married to an apostate.

Hang in there, man. As was said before - try to engage only with her natural personality, when the cult personality is controlling her, just shut down, or if she comes at you all of a sudden, you might be able to deflect by asking her what brings this up. It's so difficult not to just jump right in with all the proof that it's a cult when you're being challenged, but sometimes you have to make a strategic withdraw to win later. I'm the type that I like to debate and present a solid argument/proof of my point, but convincing the other person is secondary to beating them. It's really tough to switch gears to letting some bit of completely flawed reasoning go unchallenged in the interests of convincing someone over presenting a good argument.

Also, while it may be true, pushing the 'mind control' business might not be the most effective approach. No one under mind control actually believes they're being controlled or manipulated - that's why it works. So when you say that, you're directly and succinctly challenging the very reality in which she lives. This is like someone coming to you and asserting that your children are hallucinations and that you're schizophrenic - you'd probably not take it very well if they continued to press the issue.

When asked what your problem is with the cult, you might change to something like "my problem is that it seems to be the source of all the arguments that I have with the woman that I love." It's tough to hold back and remain calm, but one of you needs to and it's sure not going to be her.

I haven't dealt with anything on this level yet myself, but I'm sure it's coming. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, and heisenburg - maybe you should start another thread. It's rather insensitive to come in here and defend the cult that's trying to break up someone's marriage.

Nov 15,2014 Page 16, par 13. The scripture to support this is 2 Peter 1:7. Please do not ask how!!

I just read it, and all I can say is wow. They really can't even find any justification for submitting FS reports. NONE. They make an assertion that it's an important part of our godly devotion (the only tie-in to 2 Peter) but they don't back that up with anything. Then they imply that god only appreciates our time in the ministry if it's reported! Viewed objectively, this paragraph is great at illustrating how they conflate the organization with god.

It's really telling when they have paragraphs like this - I've started noticing this more after my awakening. They'll have one, maybe two, very loosely related scriptural citations at the beginning, make some assertion that this is somehow related to whatever they're trying to prove, then go on to state a bunch of nonsense as fact with no scriptural backing. The people writing it MUST know that it's total BS just from the stark difference in composition between these blind assertions and the articles written on scripturally-supported doctrines.

Personally, I wish I could somehow do the family worship with my wife - it might well help me to wake her up. We never did it before, though, so it would seem odd if I started at the time when all signs point to me not giving a crap about being "spiritual"
