All they want is some Spiritually-qualified publishers blind individuals who believe they are God's mouthpiece on earth. No wonder their artwork is so poor.

Re: Art Skills Needed at Bethel
    Dear Brothers:
The beautiful illustrations in our printed publications and on jw.org serve as teaching aids
that emphasize spiritual truths from the Bible. Producing that artwork requires the efforts of
many skilled artists, graphic designers, and others. Some of these volunteers are ones serving
full-time in the Art Department at Bethel; others are serving temporarily at Bethel; and others
    serve remotely from their homes.
At this time, we have a specific need for volunteers with one or more of the skills listed
on page 2 of this letter. Spiritually-qualified publishers with these skills who are in a position to
work at Bethel temporarily or to make themselves available as a remote volunteer may approach
the congregation secretary and request an Application for Temporary Volunteer Program (A-19).
All who apply should include a detailed résumé with samples of their work and should include a
link to an online portfolio they may have.

Please note that we are not encouraging individuals to pursue higher education or university
degrees to obtain skills related to art and graphic design. (w13 10/15 pp. 15-16 pars. 13-14)

Thank you for your continued support to further Kingdom interests.

PS to the coordinator of the body of elders:
Please arrange for this letter (with the exception of the attached list of skills) to be read to
the congregation at the first Service Meeting after its receipt. Thereafter, the letter and list of
skills should be posted on the information board. Along with the Application for Temporary Volunteer
Program (A-19), the letter to temporary volunteer applicants (A-20) and the letter to those
applying for theocratic schools, Bethel service, or other forms of special full-time service (A-63)
    should be provided.

As a reminder, it is preferred that the Application for Temporary Volunteer Program (A-19)
be submitted using the jw.org Inbox feature. Please include the words “Attention Art Department”
in the subject line of the message.—See also the letter dated August 5, 2014, to all bodies of elders
in the United States branch territory.

"their artwork is so poor"...I'll be looking forward to the links of "qualithy artwork" you feel a religion should have in order to teach the word of God.....

I will be waiting...THIS MIGHT TAKE A YEAR.....

Um, I know of plenty of great artists that didn't seek higher education.

I'm not knocking higher education, but you don't have to go to school to study art.

Yes many of these skills have to be learned at higher education schools. Perhaps the spiritually strong JW's who did not get higher education were assigned these tasks but were not educated enough to handle them.

This is a heck of a lot of art skills needed all at once (?) do you suppose they are ready to lay off older faithful witnesses who are now more at risk for expensive medical treatment?

@giordano yeah...they are not smart enough to know that, right?

And it also shows youre not too bright. "all at once" is stupid. they dont look for "one guy" that can do that. they are looking for people that can do thse things. Lord help you! LOL learn how to read.

I just want to know, how can someone be qualified for this type of work without seeking higher education?

Osmosis? As if the skills automatically embed themselves within people without professional training. And I like how they are sure to mention further down in the letter:

Please note that we are not encouraging individuals to pursue higher education or university
degrees to obtain skills related to art and graphic design. (w13 10/15 pp. 15-16 pars. 13-14)

Lovely mixed message. They need specialized degreed skills at Bethel (preferable volunteer), 'but YOU shouldn't go and pursue training for them. How dare you aspire to wanting to be a graphic designer! We'll never have a need like this again... But, if you already possess these specialized skills and obvious experience (Art Director), come on down!'

I'm sure they'll be looking for a BA + on a resume for that laundry list.

    Hypocrites.

I actually have 8 out of those 15 skills and learned them all on my own by buying books or on the job.

But I'd probably be making twice as much salary if I had gotten a degree.

the fact remains though that learning some or many of those skills doesn't require college or university.

at walt disney? people are working there that dont have university degrees. they have certs in varied things. We're talking walt disney!

you dont have to go to a 4 year college for that. dont be an idiot.

How can you get it? without the 4 year degree.

regarding "how dare you want toget a BA in yada yada yada..."

here is the thing... The USA? education is not just about training you in your skill, its about shoving other things into you to make you a "rounded person". 'required credits" that have zero to do with the trade. also the colleges are also no stranger to craziness in their midsts. Last time i checked? Home schooling and university of Phoenix Doesnt have "freaknic". or burning crap into your arm in peer pressure to join frats, influencing young minds...whenich has lead to hazing and everything else. Lets also point to the grad rate. Lets see how big you are in posting that! do you realize that 4 year colleges make all their money on the fact that youre not going to finish?

but you certainy were pushed to "get the requirements out the way" so they got their money and your energy early in, and when the years of life catch up and people start dropping out? they dont have enough to use the classes taken and the schools wont release what you did till youre paid up.

Listen, dont paint college like its anywhere close to pushing out quality anymore. they are not. Schools that are skill driven, and are shorter? run circles around them. while youre in there trying to pick some stupid class they are requiring you to take but making YOU pay for, your counter countries are coming out of General school with skills youre PAYING for.

KEEP IN MIND bethel, is talking to everyone, not just USA. people have skills ALREADY, and also have skills from other lands where its not tied to stupidity like the USA universities are.

Party univeristy......We even make movies about it! Do you see such a thinking in higher learning in other lands? THOSE people have the skills as well, you idiots. NOT JUST YOU MEN in the usa. can you say that a person in canada, mexico, or other countries like china dont have those skills and dont have to go thro what the USA people have to for education hoops! MAYBE YOU MAY BE RIGHT, that gaining education IN THE USA has turned into a "pass through our liberal conditioning" place....and other lands are superior.
