not sure where to post this, but the other day my jw mom says to me, 'the number is increasing they announced that we need 40,000 new kingdom halls'.

ok, who else has heard this, and how should i respond, other than to say well your cong is smaller now than it was 15 years ago..... where your growth?.
40,000 KHs would mean, on the low side, that they need space for roughly 4 million JWs. So, apparently, half of the JWs currently need to be moved into a new KH, which means that literally every current KH should be overcrowded.
It's amazing how terrible JWs are at simple math when it comes to something cult related.

I love to correct JWs anytime they talk about iphone generations (or any group of generations) and say "don't you mean overlapping generation?"

i just pushed out an update that should now show post votes and provide some feedback when you click the like / dislike button.
the votes shows as a +5 / -2 next to the like and dislike options.. i just realize i linked the display to the ability to vote and given that the vote links are hidden on your own posts, that currently means you can't see the votes that others have given you (i'm almost wondering now if that may be for the best, lol).
expect it to change when i push the next update out.. duplicate votes won't be counted even though they may appear to update in the ui so don't bother trying to go click-crazy - every member only get's one vote on each post.. just a word of caution: i take serious people who try to game the system.
I expect to be at the very bottom of the dislike pile so no one should worry that they will be the most disliked person on the forum

i decided to watch at least a portion of the rest of the program though because sometimes things are said that are interesting to pick up on.
this one started off on the topic of unity, and, unbelievably, herd talked about brainwashing and how we like to have our brains cleaned.
You know, somehow I'd never really applied that scripture to JWs, but you're absolutely right - they do just as the nations do. Though a JW would tell you that they show love to everyone by waking them up on saturday and trying to force their cult on them.
The comment about brainwashing is one I've heard before at a meeting. It's the stock way of twisting a word to redefine it as a good thing, part of the loaded language of a cult. It is telling that they're willing to admit that the common perception of JWs it that they're brainwashed, though.

people have technically died in the past, and by the standards of diagnosing death in bible times you could definitely beat 48 hrs and return.
Yeah, that always irritated me to. They'd always say oh how horrible it must've been for got to watch his son tortured and killed. A) if he'd wanted to he could've stopped the torture and had him die painlessly and B) it's not quite the same as a parent watching their child die because he knew he'd be back. Anyone who thinks that god had it rough watching Jesus die must go through horrible trauma every time they watch their child fall asleep!
Taking your point a little further, why is it that if someone is technically dead for a couple days that they don't come back perfect? Death is the price of sin, and they've paid to the same standard as Jesus, so when they come back they should have been raised to perfection and live forever!
i don't typically hear from my mom often, but i tell you, over the past couple of weeks, i have heard from her several times.
you heard the comment about "our way of worship will be altered" and thank you for your posts by the way....but yesterday, she calls and is asking about the kids and then, in typical jw fashion mind you, says:.

I was told in the 1960's that I would never finish high school. Well let's see...I finished high school, my children finished high school and some of my grandchildren have finished high school.
What they meant was that your overlapping generation wouldn't finish highschool!
The comment from the CO was probably the standard "It sure doesn't seem possible that this system can go on for another 15 years!" I think I've heard some comment like that in every CO talk since I was an infant. Noncommittal but still does the job.
