Cover of the September 2016 Watchtower.
by jwfacts inthe cover of the 2016 september watchtower has an islander couple preaching.
the brother looks like he may be fijian in a traditional skirt standing in a river, doing a presentation on an apple ipad.
i can't imagine there are many families that can afford an ipad in the pacific islands.

This was just a pioneer trying to kill time by wiring something out before moving to the next house. I buy their story that it was a coincidence - if the JW knew of the death, she would've just lead with that. Why would they intentionally do this 3 months after the death? It actually seems like a shame if this story gets much attention because to me it's just a case of unfortunate timing and I think it'll look that way to most people (at least those who aren't grieving and sensitive to the illusion of meaning in minor things). It's a shame because JWs actually DO scan obituaries and write predatory letters to those who have had a recent loss - THOSE are the stories that need exposure and crying wolf like this just makes those stories seem less reliable.

Help - I'm going to be conducting the watchtower study
by Saltheart Foamfollower init looks like i'm going to have to take the watchtower study for a while so i thought i'd seek help.. i wont be outing myself or stating anything too controversial, but so far i have come up with the following tactics : 1) ask questions which will get people thinking even if it is about something insignificant - developing a questioning mind is the key to discovering ttat as far as i am concerned.
2) highlight any extreme points so that some might realise they are extreme.
3) highlight any good points - helping others in need for example - just because it is the right thing to do.. if anyone has any general comments which could help, please post them here.

I thought they did away with asking questions outside of the ones provided a decade ago. At least that's what my father (who was the conductor at the time) told me at least - he was disappointed in how rigid it got and didn't enjoy conducting anymore.

Funny stories how u got caught while secretly smoking
by Gefangene inhey folks.
to those of you who were secrely smoking while being a jw how did your cover get blown?
do you have any funny stories to share even if at that time they may not have been funny at all due to impending consequences.

Not a story of how I got caught, but one of how I covered it once. I'm a late bloomer and tried my first cigarette at 30 (no intention of making it a habit...just wanted to try something "evil" now that I was awake) and when I got home the first thing I did was pour myself a glass of my smokiest scotch (laphroaig cask strength!) and have a few drinks so my wife wouldn't detect it on my breath. Worked like a charm.

Are there more ex-witnesses than current witnesses?
by stuckinarut2 infor years the society has said that over 40,000 a year are disfellowshipped.
add to that the 10's of thousands who simply disassociate or fade.... so by that logic, would it be correct to assume there are actually more former witnesses on the earth than the number of current active witnesses ?

You're also only accounting for those that were baptized. Many (perhaps millions) more were raised in the cult but were never baptized and left as they got older. I think there's a pretty good chance there are as many or more exJWs than JWs.

REAL Miracles!!
by pale.emperor inyou all like miracles?
wanna hear some real miracles that have happened?
this is all true folks!

Coded logic - I've heard nearly that exact same story several times with slight variations each time - once they were tipped off to the fact that it was demonic because the painting was of a woman who's eyes follow you as you move about the room. Even full in, I thought "I guess they need to destroy the mona lisa too."
At least twice I heard the story told by someone who claimed it was their study that it happened to - i.e. they'd just started studying when they bought it and were advised to get rid of it because it was demons attacking her for studying.
This is so clearly a complete fabrication.

I prefer to choose factual literature that will educate me over things chosen specifically to fortify an arbitrary belief that I already have. -

I heard a miracle story first-hand once. Guy (who was deathly afraid of dogs) was going d2d and was approaching a house that had a small courtyard at the front door and some of the porch was obscured by bushes. There was a dog on the porch that came hurtling towards him out of the courtyard and he raised his service bag and screamed "save me Jehovah!" and just before the dog reached him it was as if it hit a brick wall and stopped dead and he was able to run away and escape the dog.
Definitely a miracle. Or, you know, the dog was on a chain. nah definitely a miracle.
