Where are the Young Elders?

i was appointed as an elder when i turned 30, 25 years ago.

which was the norm back then.. now, i very rarely here of a young man becoming an elder.

in our town we have 2 english congregations.

Our hall. Around ten elders. 1 is mid 40s. The next youngest is 58 ish. The rest are old. The average age is 64. I did the math.

Bethel Meeting at Regional Convention

i decided to go to the bethel recruiting meeting yesterday to test out my theory that the organization is in decline.

i assumed that if there is a general feeling of apathy by many in the org, then certainly it would be shown up by the lack of enthusiasm or zeal by many to sign up for bethel service.

well let me say that based on what i observed, this organization is not going anywhere.

Magnum. You make great points. There are def issues in dub land. There is no good fresh blood coming in. But these ones that I see in my area who are all in (applying to bethel, etc... ) aren't rejects. They are normal successfull people. I really don't know what it will take to wake this group up.

Thanks for the Intel. I agree that there are plenty of 20-30 year olds who are all in. This cult isn't going away for awhile.

My family always read ours. Was not a big deal. I imagine other dub families might have viewed it differently.

After twenty years of marriage…

i just got a call from a friend who informed me that a brother whom i've known for a while and is an elder, just found out last night that his wife of 20+ years declared she was gay, and left him..

i still need to confirm but my friend is very reliable and was close friends with the family.

heres the thing, she spent 20+ years with this man, has children with him and now decides she wants to follow her heart.

I really don't think that I would be upset. It would feel somewhat surreal. If somebody is gay why would I want them to stay with me if they weren't happy.

Thanks CoCo. That's it. I can see a baby face in that pic. Revelation book page 52. Seems pretty clear to me. Could still be a coincidence though.

Very Offensive Statement Directed To JW Parents-Watchtower 4/15/2015 Page 11 Paragraph 9

wt is insinuating, worse yet, blaming senior jw parents for there not being more younger brothers reaching out to be ministerial servants and elders.

page 11 paragraph 9 reads as follows: .

"elders in affluent lands may face an added challenge: how to motivate baptized brothers in their 20s or 30s to get involved in congregation activities.

The elders are taking this bullshit to heart at my hall. There aren't really any "brothers" reaching out. I'm not looking forward to them asking me what my spiritual goals are as the article instructed them to do. I hated this article. I just want to be left alone.

that Zeus is obvious I've seen one other one that seems obvious Not sure what it was from. Maybe the revelation book. It was I think Jesus hand or fist and there was a face on it. But usually people are seeing something where there isn't

Kudos to you People Who support your Spouse Suffering Meeting Attendance

i was inspired to post this because so many of you lovingly support your spouse by going to meetings conventions etc .knowing the crap your going to have to put up with , hoping that someday he/she will wake up to the bs.. and your willing to do this for as long as it takes .i take my hat off to you all.. it must take a lot of intestinal fortitude and love to do that .. smiddy.

I don't really feel that this is something that I should be praised for. I still go but it feels really hypocritical to me. By sitting in that chair it feels like I am giving my support to the Borg. I just don't see any other viable way forward at the moment and I definitly do love my wife and kids.

so this weekend there was a part about not following jesus at a distance.

the speaker made a big point of stating that any baptized jw male who was not either appointed ms/elder, or at the very least "reaching out" actively, was in fact following jesus at a distance.

he said that the only way to live through the big a was to follow jesus closely.
