All assemblies and conventions have assigned attendance. In this way they can predict attendance to be sure seats are filled (motels also). From this they base the per capita fee. The numbers are computed in advance according to the number of publishers in each cong/circuit/region with a cushion for un-baptized children and visitors. Kind of like a membership fee per event. So the formula for expenses is based in advance on publishers assigned weather they show up or not. Maybe this is one of the reasons they push for baptism so young. I have heard that there is also a demographic factor to the formula but haven't seen any confirmation to that.

New letter about Circuit Conventions accounting procedures
by Hecce ini hope that one of the friends will post the letter soon.
i heard that on 3/27/2017 a letter with new instructions about the accounts at the circuit conventions was released.
the letter seems to adopt many of the corrections that had been suggested here at the forum, among other things during the accounts report they will be no mention of the per capita and the amount due is going to be released only to the elders.

Isn't 537 B.C.E. before (earlier/older) than 515 B.C.E.? Either way they are off.To illustrate: Some traditional rabbinical sources date the completion of the first Second Temple edifice as early as of 3408 A.M. (350 B.C.E.) but the best Jewish history and critical estimates have the Temple completed around 3574 A.M. or about 515 B.C.E. on the Gregorian calendar.
Even within the 166-year discrepancy, the Jehovah's Witnesses' 607 chronology has us not even returning to Jerusalem until 3596 A.M. (537 B.C.E.), more than 20 years AFTER the latest date for the Second Temple's dedication date. This makes the Watchtower calculations impossible.

Dose Wt really have that much cash.
by joe134cd ini realize that wt has got a wind fall of cash through various means.
so my question is in the greater scheme of things is it really that much.
for example let's say with all their real estate and cash on hand they are worth about $20 billion dollars.

I thought the WTS MEPS covered most of the simultaneous translation of their literature so hundreds of translators were not needed.

"During the 1999 service year, the Watch Tower Society spent $64,475,225.00 in caring for special pioneers, missionaries, and traveling overseers in their field service assignments" http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/302000003
I remember when it was around 1 million... 200 million now?
The monthly cong "expence" to the wwwork is no different than passing the plate as far as I am concerned and even worse since you are contracted to do so.

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

You can still find old cast iron pans at yard sales if you keep your eyes open. Use cast iron when camping. Wipe out with paper towel and put back on the fire to dry and upkeep seasoning. Cast iron dutch oven is very versatile also.

Angry and scared
by BlackWolf ini feel like everything that comes out of my mothers mouth is something negative and cringe worthy.
all she seems to talk about with me is how terrible and demonic our disfellowshipped relatives are, how horrible the world and holidays are, or how she is so much better and "holier than thou".
it really makes me sick sometimes.

When I stepped down and just became a regular pub everyone started treating my wife and I different. We were no longer in the "club." This was noticed by her more than anything else. I didn't realize it at the time but looking back can see this affected her the most. She still goes to mtngs etc. but is treated as an outsider in many ways. I still support her at assemblies etc. Other family members have pumped up things against me since the last convention but my wife sees right through it. She is thinking more clearly and we discuss things openly. It takes time. Don't attack, take your time and encourage her to think for herself. It will have to be her decision to wake up.

"You will never grow old in this present system of things" -- some campaign tools
by FatFreek 2005 ini am approaching 76 years old.
i can clearly recall that awake!
statement and similar during the pre-1975 hype -- "staying alive in '75", et al.
-
RichardHaley
I agree with all the above comments. I remember the period well. All the rhetoric and propaganda. Pressure from parents and the rest of the jw world caused me to take the plunge in '73 @ 16. Parents still alive and active. Totally deny the 75 fiasco. To quote my dad, "when I read between the lines all I see is blank spaces." I give up talking to them about anything jw anymore. At least they hang out with me and are otherwise great to be around.
Other family members (since the convention) are semi-shunning me since I am "spiritually weak." I bite my tongue for the sake of the grand-kids, nieces and nephews, otherwise I wouldn't care.

why would God and Jesus hate the united nations?

According to jw propaganda God has allowed mankind 6k years to try all forms of government to prove that man can't successfully rule himself, the UN being the last ditch effort on mankind's part. Of-course that line of reasoning doesn't take into account that the deck has been stacked against mankind by confining Satan and his demons to the vicinity of the earth to perpetrate all kinds of evil disrupting any honest effort.

Serena
by Darryl ini was watching serena win yet another wimbledon title recently (congrats to her) but it got me to thinking about her for a moment.
she identifies herself as a jw and if you look up any info on her it will tell you that her religion is jw so that means that she herself and the rest of the world identifies her as a jw.. for those of us who are df'd as well as those of you who are about to be df'd what is the reason?
and what is the main difference between a df and a fade away?

You can't be disfellowshipped OR disassociated if you've never been baptized.
exactly... and not even a marking talk ... no cards in any congregation file as an un-baptised publisher...Members are taught to shun ones who automatically disassociate themselves by no longer remaining politically neutral... joining the military. As long as they are not attending cong mtngs, no announcement made.
If she or her sister were to attend mtngs occasionally might be a different story. Most likely assigned a
handlerstudy conductor like MJ or Prince were, to limit media damage and to court large donations. -

At a regional convention today....
by Nobodyspecial init really stands out to me just how phoney the bonds of forced brotherhood are.
the smiles are paper thin when they see each other in hotels.
the laughs forced.

I am missing the rc completely this year, although my family is there right now. Over the last couple of years I have been able to reduce attendance a day at a time. I doubt anyone in the congo will notice since I have been absent since memorial. My better half would rather not be there either. Not as far as me in the fade but making progress. There are some elderly ones (elders) at the local hall who have stayed home this year and have been given "special access" to view the event online. lol Prostrates have had access for weeks!
