Best thread ever. Lived through it and remember it well. I actually graduated from HS in '75 and turned down a 4 year scholarship because of this. What is done is done. I have a good life despite the wt and all my in relatives. Great comments everyone!

2017 Convention Video To Be Shown Regarding The 1975 Failure
by pale.emperor inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go3arnnsfkk&feature=youtu.be.
no mention whatsoever that it was watchtower themselves that strongly hinted towards this date.
instead they blame those who "put their trust in a date, not jehovah".. let's recap... .

Received my first letter since leaving
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu intoday, i received a paper letter in my mail.
since i left at the second half of 2016, i never received something like this.
it is a one and a half page hand written letter that is written by an elder pioneer (i guess he needed some easy way to get his time in).. it is not written in english, so i will translate it:.

This line of reasoning always disgust me... if the bible is to be believed. Man can't make his own decisions or rule himself successfully, and to prove it God is going to let us have a go at it for 6k + years with the devil and his horde pissing all over our efforts. Sounds fair to me...lolLook around you. The problems of all the nations can all be traced back to the offer of the Devil in Eden ... ''you can do it yourself''...
Here you see the question of sovereignty that is going on. But no matter how hard people try, with their human wisdom this will never succeed. (1 Cor. 1:19 + the context)

I noticed that they did not mention the number of partakers from last year like they normally do. Kinda hard to explain when that number keeps going up
The number was mentioned (15k) here and the speaker said the fact that it is a small number is proof we are in the time of the end. -

I know what I would have done under those circumstances but I will refrain from sharing so as not to offend anyone. Individuals react to extremely negative circumstances in different ways. This is a very sad story but no change within the system will come from it except strengthening the mgtow ranks. I just heard about a man who was in solitary confinement for 45 years and then released from prison without any preparation for release into the real world. So far he is doing ok but he has to be scarred.

Are congregations in Spain suffering an increase in banking fees since Watchtower 'seized' their bank savings?
by jwleaks inremember a few years ago watchtower literally 'siezed' all individual congregation bank savings around the world above what was needed to cover basic kingdom hall monthly expenses?
a new march 30, 2017, boe letter has just gone out to congregations in spain, which, more or less, explains that congregations bank account funds no longer entitle congregations to reduced banking fees.
(see copy of actual paragraph below.).

Banks are starting to charge fees for everything. Won't be long and you will see negative interest on savings. All this makes digital currency and stacking bullion even more desirable.

New letter about Circuit Conventions accounting procedures
by Hecce ini hope that one of the friends will post the letter soon.
i heard that on 3/27/2017 a letter with new instructions about the accounts at the circuit conventions was released.
the letter seems to adopt many of the corrections that had been suggested here at the forum, among other things during the accounts report they will be no mention of the per capita and the amount due is going to be released only to the elders.
-

All assemblies and conventions have assigned attendance. In this way they can predict attendance to be sure seats are filled (motels also). From this they base the per capita fee. The numbers are computed in advance according to the number of publishers in each cong/circuit/region with a cushion for un-baptized children and visitors. Kind of like a membership fee per event. So the formula for expenses is based in advance on publishers assigned weather they show up or not. Maybe this is one of the reasons they push for baptism so young. I have heard that there is also a demographic factor to the formula but haven't seen any confirmation to that.

Isn't 537 B.C.E. before (earlier/older) than 515 B.C.E.? Either way they are off.To illustrate: Some traditional rabbinical sources date the completion of the first Second Temple edifice as early as of 3408 A.M. (350 B.C.E.) but the best Jewish history and critical estimates have the Temple completed around 3574 A.M. or about 515 B.C.E. on the Gregorian calendar.
Even within the 166-year discrepancy, the Jehovah's Witnesses' 607 chronology has us not even returning to Jerusalem until 3596 A.M. (537 B.C.E.), more than 20 years AFTER the latest date for the Second Temple's dedication date. This makes the Watchtower calculations impossible.

Dose Wt really have that much cash.
by joe134cd ini realize that wt has got a wind fall of cash through various means.
so my question is in the greater scheme of things is it really that much.
for example let's say with all their real estate and cash on hand they are worth about $20 billion dollars.

I thought the WTS MEPS covered most of the simultaneous translation of their literature so hundreds of translators were not needed.

"During the 1999 service year, the Watch Tower Society spent $64,475,225.00 in caring for special pioneers, missionaries, and traveling overseers in their field service assignments" http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/302000003
I remember when it was around 1 million... 200 million now?
The monthly cong "expence" to the wwwork is no different than passing the plate as far as I am concerned and even worse since you are contracted to do so.

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

You can still find old cast iron pans at yard sales if you keep your eyes open. Use cast iron when camping. Wipe out with paper towel and put back on the fire to dry and upkeep seasoning. Cast iron dutch oven is very versatile also.
