  If "the Truth" is the truth, why are witnesses so scared of research?

  it is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?

  didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.

  seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.

  I like to be brief so I'm going to give my number one reason:

  Witnesses train themselves to have a number of Scriptural "proofs"

  in mind

  So:

  The "whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one"

  The Devil as a "roaring lion" is seeking to devour someone (them)

  This is the rationale as to why University has been pretty much banned,

  If you don't take measures to protect yourselves and you fall to

  the Devils "machinations" then your losing your salvation would be your

  fault

  You must keep up with regular study in WT publications and meeting

  attendance (brain washing)

  Stay away from contrary information

  Or you will fall OUT of the "Truth"

  Now you wouldn't want to do that

  And die at Armageddon!

  so jesus said in acts 1:8 .... you will receive power when the holy spirit comes upon you,+ and you will be witnesses+ of me in jerusalem,+ in all ju·deʹa and sa·marʹi·a,+ and to the most distant part* of the earth.. .

  witnesses of jesus and not jehovah.

  so i was a witness for years.

  Did you folks ever realize that Isaiah 43:10-12 applied to Spiritual

  Israel only according to Rutherford's Theology

  Where does Spiritual Israel go when they die?

  Heaven

  In 1931 everybody was confessing that designation

  So, today, we have 8 million "Jehovah's Witnesses"

  Really?

  Are they Spiritual Israel?

  A little confusing isn't it

  The name is defunct except for under 20,000 good folks

  Rutherford was a little short sighted I think

  (I wonder who of 8 million "Witnesses" have thought about this :) )

  What I'm getting from David_Jay's last comment is that it has historically

  been a serious mistake to take accounts/stories from the Torah literally,

  To some degree Catholicism agrees with you

  Accounts such as the Noah-sian Deluge are generally treated as allegory

  The suggestion was made to treat such stories much as one might with

  Aesop's Fables,

  I am in agreement

  i think if we are to fully delight in life we must live without detachment.

  because when we become attached to a beliief we feel a desire that we are right.

  the problem with being right, even if we are right is that our beliefs then try to attach themselfs to virgin snow, and change people to our thinking.

  Regarding whether these men died from a divine act

  As I recall from memory

  (I could be making mistakes here)

  David was given the choice of three punishments

  And he chose the scourge because that way the deaths would

  be from Yahweh

  His thinking was somehow there might be less of a toll

  Again I would encourage you to read over the chapter to get the correct

  story

  But indeed it was Yahweh (Jehovah ) that killed these men

  for the sin of David

  These men were innocent
