Banned from the second school!
by purrpurr ini've been told by a jw friend that when her hall recently had a refurb that big changes were made to the second school.. one, a large sign has been placed on the door telling people not to use it and to sit in the main hall itself.. two, that all the chairs which used to face the large windows looking into the main hall are now side on to the window facing the wall instead.. this is because "so many people were sitting out in there!
people were finding all manner of exhuses to sit-in there and the brothers want us to all be together in the main hall!
" she said.. of course i didn't tell her what i really thought of this but seriously?

Here's another take on this: I was personally involved in closing off the back school at our KH. Why? A "brother" who displayed all the tendencies of being a pedophile was grooming little girls back there all meeting long. Sometimes holding them on his lap, bouncing them up and down and just staring at their faces stroking their hair. Where were the parents? Right there. He has been warned and so have the parents. It's too bad others have to be inconvenienced because of this creep. -

Feeling Jealous of True Believers
by Naoscillator inwhat a simple life it is to be a true believer.
the cocksureness of people who never for a moment question their core beliefs is something i have come to envy.
it's altogether foreign, but it sure looks nice over on the other side.. why do some people step into the void of uncertainty while others do everything in their power never to even go near it?

Good responses. I should note that the jealous feeling is fleeting and only comes when it feels like the 'unorthodox' information I have helped myself to over the years has gotten me into some sort of trouble.
Faye, that's the exact sort of thing that actually drives me up the wall. The new JW Broadcasting video series "A _____ist Explains His Faith" does not help and only illustrates the need for intellectual dishonesty for these people to continue as they are. What part of Evolution theory comments on whether or not life originates with God? That's right, it doesn't but the implications are unwelcome for believers.

Why do some people step into the void of uncertainty while others do everything in their power never to even go near it? I've seen JW's go to extremes to keep themselves pure of any disconfirming influences, some actually boast about not knowing what's going on in their own country. Is it an unconscious drive towards self-preservation and wholeness that pushes away or dismisses every little idea that doesn't fit? Or an actual sense of duty and reverence for "truth" even while acknowledging that that "truth" does not stand up to questioning and must be protected at all costs?
Sometimes I say "If only I had kept myself pure." Then again, I don't think I ever was. I think some people are hardwired to question continually and never close the book on what's true in their world.

This illustration is in the brochure released at the 2012 convention. A Bethelite sister (who actually has a "good" job at Bethel) remarked, "oh, look. They made him shave." Interesting choice of words I thought. -

I no longer feel smart as a JW, I feel dumb...
by thedepressedsoul ini don't want anyone to take this the wrong way but i use to at least feel smart as a jw.
when i went to thursday night meetings, i at least felt like i was a student, that i was learning how to speak publicly, i could prepare my own comments, i could answer points that i learned from the weekly bible reading.
i even feel like an "idiot" studying for the meetings.

The dumbing down of the information you are observing just means they know they can't get away with as much anymore so they keep it vague and superficial.
Couldn't have said it better. This is especially true of the last couple of times they tried to tackle evolution in the magazines.

Umbertoecho, I've been following your posts for some time. Your reports of how the ARC interacts with survivors are invaluable and encouraging. Thank you, and may you continue to find the strength to carry on. -

The March JW broadcast, presented by paedophile enabler Geoffery Jackson
by jambon1 inall warm and fluffy this month after the utterly laughable 'bread' broadcast.
.
i'll always be grateful to the australian royal commission for allowing us to see this duplicitous, lying, creep, shown up as a snivelling, suck up, asshole, taken completely out of his self appointed authoritarian comfort zone.. anyway, a not too interesting broadcast i have to say..

I know several 'graduates'. It's all standard stuff except for a few inventions too crazy even for the 'imitate their faith' book. Made up stories about the apostle Paul meditating for three years in the arabian desert then laying low for another 9 before "receiving his first assignment from the governing body". Another one about Paul failing to have success with his synagogue preaching, only to have Apollos show up later and convert everybody in the synagogue! I asked the star graduates what chapter of Acts I could find the account in. "I'll get back to you...." -

THE LINGERING SHADOW OF '75
by Terry innone of you are old enough to have been there, i suspect.
i had been in prison two years as a jw conscientious objector when the exciting news about 1975 spread like wildfire.i was paroled from prison in 1969 and immediately began pioneering.
the pressures began mounting throughout the organization.

Terry, I know somebody who knew Lonnie Payne very well. I would say it's a small world, but I know better.
