  Jehovah Witness vs Jehovah's Witness

  being brought up as a jehovah's witness means you are so used to the term that you rarely stop to think about it.. one thing i've noticed is that people unfamiliar with the religion will say "jehovah witness" (no 's) instead which i always found a bit grating.. but watching the us election, something struck me.

  people are often referred to as "trump supporters", not "trump's supporters" and so on.

  thinking about other things, people would say they were "united fan's", not "united's fans" and so on.. it seems weird that a group would refer to themselves as though it was someone else talking about them (in the 3rd person, if i have that right).. what do you think?

  Most outsiders say "Jehovah Witnesses". A few say things like, "he / she's a Jehovah's Witness." Nobody but Jehovah's Witnesses say "one of Jehovah's Witnesses." That's just one reason why it's hilarious that the new entry under "Frequently Asked Questions" on the official site is "How do I become one of Jehovah's Witnesses?"

  The "apostacy stigmatisation" of doing research!

  a thought occurred that the way the society has stigmatised the doing of external research by witnesses, and labelling any such questioning as "apostate", is tragic.. no doubt, in every other aspect of life, we research things before making decisions.

  eg, if making a purchase, we go online and check reviews etc to check the product out.

  we don't just trust the words of the marketing department.

  The WT society is indeed homophobic.

  Keep in mind, the public area of JW dot org is exactly that, for the public. Compare this article, which seemingly condemns only the specific sexual "sin" of practiced homosexuality, with TOMO's rants, and the recent meeting the CO's had with elders in which "effeminate" mannerisms and the "metrosexual" look were stressed. Also, the rejection of the idea that one can be a non-practicing gay (NPG) because of what the scripture says, "that is what some of you were." In other words, you "were" gay but you're not anymore and now Jehovah can accept you.

  This completely contradicts the use of the SAME SCRIPTURE in the new article but it's how the organization's enforcers are being trained. Apparently the GB is horrified that the stylish young men in fitted suits (who may even identify as NPG) are quickly becoming the modern face of the organization.

  OTWO: obviously the WTBS, the parent corporation, is corrupt. But the way LDC acts in particular has a number of long-time die-hard JWs crying foul. Even from their perspective the personality of this department is callous, arrogant, and knows no personal boundaries.

  You know the outlandish figure read out mid-afternoon at the CA? That represents a $10.00 per publisher charge for the privilege of using the assembly hall. I have it on good authority that before LDC took over, the rate was figured at $4.50 per publisher. That extra $5.50 on top now goes directly to LDC so they can.... build one KH per state per year, maybe?

  So thus far, congregations, KH operating committees, circuits, and assembly halls have had to give up their surplus funds to "worldwide work". Congregations are stuck with a never ending mortgage on their kingdom hall under the guise of an equalizing. Possibly the biggest money-sucker is LDC through assemblies. The publishers, of course, are not told about this because they do know that building has ground to halt. They are being fleeced as though the great building program spoken of nearly two years ago was actually underway.

  There have been some interesting ideas in other threads about what the org is up to with LDC.

  Funny bit of overheard conversation from a former RBC volunteer to current LDC henchmen: "You know, RBC could have built ten halls in as much time as you guys have taken to build two."

  Just wondering who on this board has a spouse that is fully in and your awake?

  i am just curious who on this board is in the same situation has i am?

  a spouse that is fully brain doogled in and you are awake to ttatt.. without going into serious detail and no names are given.

  i would like to possible talk with one of you all, it's just so helpful to communicate with someone in the same situation as me.. i am located in the southwest united states..

  It floors me whenever a wife is awake but the husband is still mentally in. It stands to reason that in any marriage, one is more likely to question things and pursue answers. With most of the couples I know in the organization, the man is more likely to raise big questions and less likely to 'wait on Jehovah'. This is just my own experience. Also, these are usually appointed men who have seen more, given more, and in some cases been screwed over more. Just the other day I heard a very responsible brother go on a bit of a rant about recent changes in the organization and then suddenly stop himself with the phrase "of course we don't question Jehovah's organization." Too late.

  Part of the reason for this variation I think is that most JW's, whether conscious of it or not, have a threshold in their mind above which all the decisions are made by Jehovah and below which all the decisions are made by men. For some it's at the congregation level (elders), for some it's at the circuit level (CO) and others take everything with a grain of salt if it didn't come directly from the branch. Still others can be mentally in and yet recognize the factions and power struggles between departments within headquarters, but they still hold the GB as untouchably holy. Fine. Wherever the line is, you can work with it.

  So for me the only way to make progress with those who are still asleep (but stirring) is to push the line back of what's perceived to be done by "men" and what is done by Jehovah. If you can push it all the way above the heads of the Governing Body you get them to see that Jehovah has left the building and before they know it, they're awake. I say all this because this is how it happened for me as I read more and more, and compared it with what I saw. You lose faith at one level, then the next, then it all comes down.

  If you can get a spouse to question the elders, or even a CO, that's progress. Get them to question the branch and you're really getting somewhere. ("Where is all the money going?" is a really good one right now). Question the GB, nearly free. Question Jehovah, definitely over.
