How dishonest was the Apostle Paul?
by opusdei1972 inmay be some of you will be shocked by this question.
however, when i was studying the bible with critical eyes i detected that paul ( or saul of tarsus) misquoted the hebrew bible in order to get false support for his arguments.
of course, this tricky kind of use of the "scriptures" was not only used by him, but others, like the author of the gospel of matthew got unsupported doctrines misquoting verses.

Indeed Paul was a clever person who used common sense to treat some things like the issue of "food sacrificed to idols". Paul knew that Christianity would never grow if Christians had to follow all of what the Law demanded. However, he had to misquote the Hebrew Bible so as to sustain his theology. -

People should learn more about the Bible flaws
by opusdei1972 ini have noted that the main problem for those who are seduced by the watchtower society is their ignorance about the bible itself.
people who believe that the bible is the word of god usually ignore the studies on textual criticism and how scientific criteria forbid absurd stories like that of the global flood.
so, i strongly believe that students in schools need at least an obligatory course on "the bible" through the point of view of science and the textual criticism.

Interesting. Jesus also implies those who rejected him from his own generation and who saw the Christ and rejected him will not see life. Those from Sodom and Gommorah will do better.
It is very odd that a miracle like the resurrection of Lazarus was ignored by the three first Gospels. It is also very odd that Jews who supposedly saw that rejected him as the Messiah. So, I don't buy that story. To me, it was an invention of the Johanine community at the end of the first century.

For instance, how could post 70 christians sustain that Mary was virgin after conceiving Jesus?, by quoting Isaiah 7:14 which uses the word virgin in the LXX (not in the Hebrew Bible). Joseph Rutherford seemed to learn this kind of interpretative tricks when he wanted to invent a type anti-type teaching, and so on. Freddy learnt this from him.

Village: thank you sharing your list. I want to comment this
"Jesus curses entire towns for not being impressed by his miracles "
This may prove that Lazarus was never resurrected by Jesus, because no one was impressed by him, and the first three Gospels ignored it.

The first time I heard about the Documentary Hypothesis was when I was receiving obligatory lectures in Theolofy I ( in the Catholic University of Peru). However, the course was not well given.

"I am a huge critic of what's in the bible and how dangerous it's ideas cab be"
Of course, the Bible is dangerous when one considers it as the word of God.

How much damage has internet done against the The Watchtower Society ?
by opusdei1972 inin the beginning of internet the society was worried about the information published exposing its falsehood.
so, i wonder how many people lost the society on account of forums and web sites like this.

Humans have an inbuilt curiosity in them, and the WTS can do nothing to change that.
My first curiosity was to investigate about the Church Fathers of the second century, because I wanted to verify if the early church had the same doctrines of the Watchtower Society. For instance, I wanted to find the soul-sleep doctrine, but I found the contrary. The same happened with the issue of the cross. I found strong evidences pointing that Christ died on a t-shape crux, and so on.

I don't know about a book enclosing a summary of all these issues. Of course, Dawkins has done a contribution, and other ones. But we need a book of a high school level in order to show to the students the flaws of the Bible. It could help many people to avoid dangerous sects like the Watchtower Society. Secular governments should propagate this information so as to create a better thinking society of humans. -

Do we have a "spiritual need"?
by LexIsFree inso this is only my second post but its about something that has been on my mind for awhile now.
have any of you ever felt the need to pray or speak to a higher power?
do any of you beleive that we were created or have evolved with a "spiritual need"?

We have the natural question about how and why we exist. However, if a superior being exist (hypothesis), I don't think that we must pray Him, because that being has never revealed His identity until now. In the past dishonest religious leaders emerged by inventing legalistic policies that supposedly came from "God". For instance, the jewish priests invented that a god called YHWH liked to receive the blood of sacrificed animals and demanded his people to abstain from swine. We now know that these are human inventions. So, we were forced to believe that we must worship a non-existent being created in the mind of scribes. -

I remember a talk in 1999 in the kingdom hall in which the elder said that we should avoid to read web pages because are very dangerous against the spirituality.
