  Forgiveness Yesterday, Today and Forever

  i was just watching the jw broadcasting network and the topic being discussed was forgiveness.

  the fellow presenting the topic was talking a brother who had sinned many years ago.

  he finally came clean with the local elders, accepted his discipline and got on with his life.

  In Britain, there have been high profile killers (and more) baptised. Male and female. Here's one of them:

  If we'd had death penalty in this country though he'd not have been alive long enough to convert. As it is, he's planning his funeral inside.

  They've changed their ideas on Armageddon and what happens I believe. I think the current idea is that there's a certain point after which you're doomed and just get to listen to the JWs telling you that they told you so. But the finer detail of their current beliefs escapes me at times. A resurrected murderer would get a 1000 year panda hugging holiday in paradise just like your average JW, and then they get the final test. Which makes you wonder about the benefits of conversion and explains why the WBTS is so keen on always having the end arriving tomorrow.

  How many killed by the 5 Cholera pandemics during the 1800's?

  on this website, under “did the last days start 1914” ---> “pestilence”, it says:“during the 1800's five cholera pandemics killed around 100 million people.” .

  there is no link to any source of info, so i emailed paul and asked where i can verify that total number?

  Chinese numbers would be very hazy for sure, how many would die in a population of 430m during a 2 year pandemic in 1820s? Or five years if you take alternative suggestion it ran 1817 through 1822?

  But the estimates for India place the European and North American figures in perspective. High population density, little in the way of health care. It's going to be grim.

  Just personal view, but some stuff seems only useful for the person doing it as they work through their exit. It's too confrontational to win much sympathy or attention (outside of a restraining order), and just feeds the GB narrative of crazy apostates for those inside.

  Hope the guy doesn't come off too badly from all of this. I'm not sure if the original newspaper article gives a fair reflection of events. But don't cross the line into harassment and public order offences deliberately. That's silly.

  If you've got 15m or so deaths in India by 1867, China's population is 3 times that for that period? If it holds to scale, that's 60m deaths just in those two countries and the last third of the century and the rest of the world for all five pandemics to add in.

  David Arnold (prof at SOAS) suggests 40m died from cholera just in India from 1817 through 1950. ( http://www.amazon.com/Colonizing-Body-Medicine-Epidemic-Nineteenth-Century/dp/0520082958 ). 15m of those prior to 1867. So the number doesn't seem too unacceptable as a guesstimate for worldwide.

  Wiki is definitely shy a few numbers - eg 1866/7 seems to be missing figures for places like Britain and Prussia.

  It's pretty shocking that a man with convictions for violent assault (was he trying to beat up his partner when he ended up punching the off duty policeman instead?) should find himself punched unconscious in a nightclub brawl in an Essex town whilst on a night out. Clearly Socialist Workers Party at fault here.

  I've found Trey's articles very powerful in stripping back the veneer and allowing survivors to have a voice and tell their story. From what I've read by American friends, it really strikes a chord because it is journalism from the US and from a source which cannot be impugned by the WBTS.

  Hope more continues to be done to expose the problems and abuses, and to encourage better child safeguarding and support for survivors.
