Mephis no matter how you try to defend what you stated, DD did not beat around the bush. DD answer is what I needed to hear form someone who clearly wants ALL child abuse reported not just some child abuse reported from people who do not qualify.I've nothing to defend. I'm just confused as to whether you failed to read or failed to understand. We currently have exemptions to mandated reporting. Whether or not those exemptions should exist is a different question to you asking whether the seal of confession should be respected and being told that it's not even recognised as binding in the common law of my country.

So, I conclude that people (posters) do not care about children in general (except Data dog, you, because you hate all churches and vidiot, and maybe some others but that is what I have read) but that conditions are met to qualify, and that means that the church does not have to report child abuse if they meet church penitent conditions
Whether exemptions should exist is a totally different question to whether JWs meet existing ones. Perhaps ask the question which you want the answer to? But then I provided clear answers to both but you still only focused on the 'do JWs meet existing exemption requirements' so it's a little confusing to read that you were intending to ask whether exemptions should exist. -

That's kind of my point Skedaddle. But still you're cheering it on. You'd think stopping to read a bit before doing that would be useful. But clearly not. Any more Putin videos to share? They're at least amusing watching how an autocrat functions. -

In British law there is no such privilege guaranteed by law Fisherman. For any religion. So I'm sure you can appreciate that when you ask for my personal views they will be shaped by that common law. There'll naturally be a huge gulf in personal opinions between us just from that. Personally, I think JWs should have equal or equivalent rights to any other religion as best a court can make any relevant laws fit.
I think how you describe a scenario would fit within most exemptions to mandated reporting, however the investigative nature of a judicial committee would need to be stopped too. That's a real barrier for JWs in how they try to run a quasi-legal system, and it is always going to rub against secular law in some way when it comes to crime. They recognise it themselves with their instructions to elders to hide from secular authorities the fact that they're doing an investigation. Even outside child abuse, having someone playing private investigator whilst a criminal investigation is in process could prove very harmful to justice.
In any case, as indicated by the Anglican church's suggested revisions to the code of conduct for their own priests, there are troubling moral aspects even to that priest/penitent/God aspect. How religions solve that seem like something which they need to figure out lest secular society ultimately decide a solution should be imposed. Which is the solution which the WBTS seemed to be begging ARC to recommend, which was very confusing given how they fight so hard not to report on 'religious freedom' grounds.

Thaks Saltheart. Is it just a direct transfer then? No changes to the forms themselves other than them now being in electronic format? -

In terms of current law, that would generally be respected and not be an issue there Fisherman.
In terms of 'do I personally think it's right', I wonder whether the Anglican idea, or some variation thereof, is worthy of wider consideration.
(2014 draft of Guidelines for the Professional Conduct of the Clergy)
If, in the context of such a confession, the penitent discloses that he or she has committed a serious crime, such as the abuse of children or vulnerable adults, the priest must require the penitent to report his or her conduct to the police or other statutory authority. If the penitent refuses to do so the priest should withhold absolution.

JWs in Russia are considered 'extremist', by the law being used against them, because they teach that their religion is better than others. By that standard, every religion is extremist. I look forward to the Russian state closing down the Orthodox church. Vsya vlast sovetam and all that. Lots of wrong done by JWs. Some illegal stuff done by JWs. Introducing laws to persecute them, other minority religions, the LGBT community etc etc. is not really something anyone with half an ounce of sense would actively support. -

I don't agree with most of what fisherman said but I do agree with his statement "it is the parents responsibility to protect their children." So don't trust your children with es or ms, and by all means no jw indoctrination.
To an extent, yes, there's a fair point. But abuse of children is often perpetrated by those who are in or close to the family circle. So it's something of a problem to say "parents should protect their children" if it's the, for example, father who is abusing his kids. Which is why child safeguarding in outside agencies, especially those where adults assume roles of responsibility, is so important.
The WBTS' argument is that they don't have any responsibility whatsoever. This is not so. Religious leaders assume positions of authority within society, just as secular teachers do, just as law enforcement agents do, and anyone in such a role should have the sense to agree that such responsibility carries obligations too. Especially when it involves children where we (I've been a teacher) may be the person in a position of trust they turn to for help. It is not acceptable for a teacher to turn around and say, "well it's your dad, nothing to do with me." It is not acceptable for a policeman to turn around and say, "well it's your dad, nothing to do with me." It is not acceptable for a social worker to turn around and say, "well it's your dad, nothing to do with me." It is not acceptable for the Pope to turn around and say it to a child. It's not acceptable for the Archbishop of Canterbury to say it to a child. It's not acceptable for the idiots in Brooklyn to say to the children within their religion "what happens within a family is nothing to do with us".

They certainly are keen to highlight when their religious freedoms are in danger. Things like child abuse not so much.
Agree with konceptual for reasons given in other threads. 'Extremist literature' in the terms currently being used in Russia is so generally applied at the moment that anything could be banned under it if the authorities wanted to, Orwell for example. JWs are being wrongfully treated in Russia at the moment. As are a large number of other 'minority' groups who are being targeted for not conforming sufficiently.

You're not from Kent are you Joe? That's where she's from ;) That's the reconstruction they did for the Natural History Museum. (Full picture on this blog from there, NSFW for some people as she's topless so just advance warning: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/natureplus/blogs/whats-new/2014/02/11/neanderthal-woman-in-pieces )
The man looks like many I've sat opposite from at meetings. Chimp kicked through Burtons... ;) That's the Neanderthal Museum in Germany dressing him up in modern clothing to try and get people to question assumptions.
