Why isn't demon possession a DF offense?
by rebel8 inlet's review: it's a cult!.
allrighty--got thinking about it in this thread.
isn't it odd that, of all things, that isn't on the list of df offenses?

Because, How can you tell the difference between Demon Possession and Mental Illness? Or Holy Spirit Possession?
Speaking in tongues? Visions? Those don't help! What is a JC to do?!

The Loyalty Question
by choosing life inhow many here have been asked the loyalty question by an elder.
i am referring to, "do you believe that jehovah is using the faithful and discreet slave class to accomplish his work?
" or something along this line?.

What is the history of this loyalty test? When did it first come into use? Was it ever put into writing that this question (or similar wording) should be used to interrogate suspected apostates?
Who can shed light on this?

"So that we will not be confused with salesmen, it is best not to mention the donation arrangement unless we are asked..."
by Island Man in"so that we will not be confused with salesmen, it is best not to mention the donation arrangement unless we are asked how our work is financed.".
this damning quote is found on page 1 of the september 2015 our kingdom ministry, the last sentence in the 3rd bullet point under the sub-heading how to do it.
this quote amounts to an implicit admission that the jw practice of mentioning the donation arrangement to householders at the door, makes them look like door to door salesmen.. why would "jehovah's organization" be engaging in a practice that is nothing more than a transparent attempt at undercover soliciting?

Maybe this is a small step in the direction of dropping the door to door donation arraignment of asking?
Edit: Nope! They have said this before.
km 3/12 p. 2 Witness in Business Territory With Confidence
So that we will not be confused with salesmen, it is usually best not to mention the donation arrangement unless we are asked how our work is financed.

I think this is specific to "Business Territory" because the part is titled
Improving Our Skills in the Ministry—Witnessing in Business Territory

Today's Special Day Assembly Expenses and the $10,499 Deficit. Silent Majority?
by Tenacious intoday i attended a one-day assembly in my hometown.
i knew when it came time to read the afternoon expenses that it would be an incredibly high and ridiculous amount that was nowhere near the real expenses for that day.
sure enough, after lunch came the announcement.

Steve2, that has also changed. There are no more "S.A.D.s", just two 1-day assemblies. Both are called Circuit Assemblies, both are 1 day.
I went to one yesterday, "Imitate Jehovah".
The financial report started by them saying "Elders voted to send $1,500 to World wide work".
Then they turned up the pressure. "Deficit from our last assembly..."
"Currently only $788.08 in the bank"
"Cost of this assembly $8,210.86"
"So far donations only $2,499.08"
All for a hall that was bought and paid for YEARS ago! Only 1,017 people there. 12 baptized (3M+9F) 5 looked under 18. ONE adult man in his late 20's, the rest looked like women in their 40's-50's.
The baptism talk at a "Imitate Jehovah" circuit assembly (9/12/15) had a blurb about not adopting a "Metrosexual" style. I found it odd because the brother could barley say the word (talk was in Spanish). I remember thinking, does this guy even know what that means?! He was quite elderly, aprox 80. Definitely the oldest speaker that assembly.

For Those of You Who Still Serve... How Do You Do It?
by Kingdom Evader innew here... been lurking for some time now.... i still serve... but with each passing day, it gets harder and harder.
i'm slowly... slowly working on my wife (i call her mrs. hardcore) and even my m-i-l (who taught my wife how to be hardcore).
making some amazing progress... they are still hardcore... but unrecognizable from a couple years ago!.

Waking up the wife is a slow and steady process. It will be worth it. I love her unconditionally, even if she doesn't understand unconditional love yet.
In the meantime, I will try to work on activism.

I'm not what you would call a "Believer". I do agree with much of Jesus' moral philosophy (Golden rule ect.). That is what I teach from the platform. Forgiveness, looking at yourself instead of judging others, love your neighbor. The beaten down people love kind words, something sorely lacking from the WT. I also try to give them the confidence that they are doing enough. The constant drum beat for more more more is tiring.
My service consists of these steps:
being late for the meeting (so I don't get stuck conducting).
If we meet at a home, talk for 20-30. min (try to cause confusion as to who is going with whom)
Muck up the territories if you are the territory servant. Same for mags/lit.
Talk for a few more min. outside saying "see you guys for lunch?"
Get in the car. Forget something in the house, go get it.
Go to the farthest corner of your territory, for your R.V. that is never there. Better yet, OUTSIDE of your territory. "They just moved, I need to find someone to take over the study/visit."
Break. Coffee, Bathroom, Medical... Anything. (Go through the drive through, so nobody is tempted to "preach" at Starbucks)
Once you have your stuff, PULL OVER. Park while you "fix your coffee" or eat your McMuffen. Gotta drive safe!
Ask if anyone has a call they'd like to do. Pick the Farthest one, so you can "work your way back".
By this time, somebody will need to get dropped off at their car. Lunch anyone?
Add in never making young ones get out of the car (or if we are on foot, talk at the door) and you can see why they all want to go in service with wifibandit. My car has wifi! The snacks are on me! Lets talk about science and music! Sure you can mess with the radio/spotify!
