Watchtower and Emoji's - your thoughts
by Tallon inon the jw.org website, the watchtower is sending out a strong warning with regard to emoji's & flirting.. my personal view is that the org is now trying to micro-manage just about every aspect of people's lives!.
https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/family/teenagers/worksheets/friendly-or-flirtatious/.
ps: 'quotes are from julia, ellen and tara.

I LoL'd, but there may be a darker subtext.
Anon says:
I watched JW Survey's video about emoji's
It was funny - he is a funny guy...but
Cedars missed the boat on this one. He failed to see the significance of this new youth workbook and what is really going on with it. He closes the video with the remark that this workbook "really isn't a huge issue" and he is wrong.
It is.
Every example, where a voice is talking, the WT uses a girl speaking - the minor JW girls who are supposed to be downloading these worksheets are getting schooled in how to "set the example" for the entire youth audience. The behavior being "set straight" is the girls' behavior. None of the examples use a boy's voice.
First, there is the "wise girl" - Julia - who tells girls the right way to behave.
Second, there is Ellen - the "too young", but very attractive and older looking girl who should be careful to "not send the wrong message". Note that the worksheet doesn't say what to do if an older male reads her message wrong and it doesn't tell the boys that flirting with a "too young" but older looking girl is wrong
Third, there is Carly. The JW girl who deals with co-worker influence. Probably a nonJW male who finds her attrative.
And the last example is another girl - Tara - her issue is learning about "leading a boy on".
And that is it. No directives that tell JW boys what to do. But lots of training as to how girls are responsible for what predators do to them.
This is a victim instruction video - aimed at girls. Blaming them for male sexual behavior.
It really isn't about emoji's at all - that is just the fluff used to coat the real message. It is aimed at kids - the WT wants them to know that if they are victimized, it is their fault. And more specifically - it is especially the girl's fault for "sending the wrong message".

Several have mentioned that this "provision" cannot be limited to Wales. Surely there are other languages who will have "canned" Prerecorded Memorial and Special Talk 2017!
Any one else have another language to add to the list?

Amazing new graph - publisher increase compared to country population increase rates
by jwfacts inworld population growth rate is 1.13%, whilst jehovah's witness average publishers grew by 1.8%.
watchtower growth is outpacing population growth, though at a dismal rate considering the 2 billion hours of preaching required for an increase of just 115,194. this is an aggregate number, and most growth is from developing nations in africa and south america.
what i was really interested in finding is how watchtower growth compares to the population growth in different countries.

kpop, I think I get what you are saying.
Here I adjust for "per 100,000" so that we account for small populations where 1 family joining looks like a HUGE increase percentage wise, but really is a small number of people. (which happens every year, some island wins the % and a populous country wins most new pubs.)
To illustrate: If every country in the world had exactly 100,000 people in it, How many publishers would they have added/lost? This many. Most countries are stagnant.

JW.org as a Prank Tool
by schnell inthe moment i saw the "request a study" form on the site, i thought, "umm, that could be a bad thing.".
but to date, i have heard of only one case where it was used for less than genuine purposes.
that was in the case of a "game developer" who was selling crappy asset-flips on steam.

is not intended for public distribution.
On the Internet. Think about that for a second....
Is this to make JW's feel "special" by having access to this "only for publishers" book?

"Are Jehovah’s Witnesses free to make informed decisions about blood transfusions?" - Canadian article
by OrphanCrow inthis is an excellent article written by 3 faculty members in the cumming school of medicine, university of calgary - juliet guichon, ian mitchell and christopher doig.. http://healthydebate.ca/opinions/blood-transfusions-jehovahs-witnesses#comment-2866324.
it is encouraging to know that the voices that have been raised against the blood ban are being heard.
the work that so many people have done is now bearing fruit.. in 20th century canada, jehovah’s witnesses were persecuted for their proselytizing and wartime pacifism.

Expanded Access for drug use QsAs 4-15-13MG.pdf
I am attaching the FDA guidelines for expanded access use of drugs and the process involved in qualifying for them and how it all works.
This is critical in understanding the role of the HLC and how they operate/purpose.
After reading this over, it is clear that the HLC are acting on behalf of sponsors - they are agents for pharma companies. And they target JW patients in this activity.
Most of the alternative procedures and drugs that the HLC negotiate for JW patients are accessed thru this expanded access program. This document explains what that is, and how it is beneficial, not just to the patient, but to the developer of the drug and to the FDA in evaluation of the safety and risk factors.
The line that connects the HLC to the profits and benefits of pharma companies and research projects is undeniable. The HLC are agents that work for these interests.
So...that type of relationship- between the HLC and the pharma/medical supply companies - would foster a different kind of pressure than just the one brought to bear on the JW patient. the pressure placed upon the doctors to act as sponsors for the use of alternative/expanded access drugs, would be intense.
It seems as the the pressure and influence that the HLC are exerting is two-fold. I have heard and read accounts of doctors where the negotiations with HLC are terribly uncomfortable
The HLc aren't pushing a religious doctrine - they are alternative drug pushers - they deal in blood products
...some thoughts about the role of the HLC as agents for pharma companies - agents who pressure the medical community to sponsor drugs...to fall under that category of use, a doctor must be named as a sponsor
If the HLC makes the claim that they are a 'benevolent' association of some kind, with the WT not getting any kickbacks, etc...blah blah blah...just acting in the patient's best interests, blah blah blah...then the focus of investigation has to change. The HLC has to be seen as acting in the interests of pharma and medical device companies, regardless of whether they get paid or not...the company they are dealing with to access these products are benefiting
Here is where the pressure could be put - on the tax returns of the pharma sponsors and medical device companies the HLC act on behalf of. They will be for-profit companies and would have to declare volunteer labor that would benefit them. The tax man should be looking at those "expanded access" drug companies and assessing all that free labor that the HLC is doing for them...
