CO kept mispronouncing "debt"
by Red Piller inso, this happened a while ago - but i never posted on it.
during a co visit, he gave a talk relating to jesus ransom (i think) and the "debt" that was owed by sin, etc.... he kept saying "debt" and he kept pronouncing the "b".
so it sounded like "deb-t".

Anyone else like Radiohead?
by LoveUniHateExams inover the past couple of weeks, i've discovered the 'alternative rock group' radiohead.
of course, i've known of their name for years and years but never, until recently, bothered to check out their music.
i'm also quite a big fan of damon albarn and admire him not only for his substantial musical output but also for the different 'feel' to his songs - oasis, in contrast, seem to have just one beatles-esque style.

Don't write off Oasis - I think they were a great band, too, especially live.
If you are going to get into the Blur v Oasis argument then just pick the winner. Pulp - like it!
I like Radiohead for their variety - they don't seem afraid to try out different styles.
Here's a great song, IMO:

Anyone else on this forum like Radiohead?

Bro Lett at Int. Conv in Israel last year.......
by WingCommander inhaving been recently introduced to governing body member lett's "unique" speaking style, i found another video on youtube (and also on jw.org) of bro lett visiting the international convention in israel.
apparently his buffonery is not only reserved for video intro's to dramas, but also in real life as well.. i used to think those ol' time pentacostal and baptist ministers in tents would overdue it......i was wrong.
this guy has them all beat.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltvx_e4xe4e.

I'm sorry, it has to be said: Stephen Lett is a gurning moron. Perhaps he should have become an actor?
Anyway, his latest act isn't fooling me.
Next stop for Bro Lett: Gaza City International Convention
(I think I may have overdone it with the emoticons here but when I post an answer from my laptop only half the emoticons are available, for some reason)

Prince: It is fun being in Islamic Countries - ridiculous comment from a pampered pop star. Celebrities often mindlessly enthuse over third world countries - I've read about Muhammad Ali saying how wonderful Zaire was (!), before he fought George Foreman.
What's stopping Prince from leaving America (the Great Satan) and moving to an Islamic country?

it is just as much "required" by custom that men wear long tunics or gowns, even (kameez or thobes) to protect THEIR modesty - yes, I've noticed more than a few muslim men wearing a kind of gown where I live. Looks a bit gay to me.

Are the USA and Russia the key actors in end time prophecy?
by scotoma inwhat's the problem with prophecy?prophecy primarily requires a pattern recognition or insightful strategy not an analytical strategy.
prophecy rarely gives names whether of empires or their rulers.
even the name of the messiah - yeshua -wasn't foretold.

I am not really sure how a vast army of nations from central Asia, the middle east and northern Africa are going to attack all the Jehovah witnesses - you're quite right. The number of JWs in those countries ranges from zero to 10s or 100s. There are no kingdom halls or preaching work as we understand it, no 'keeping separate from the world', etc. -

JW going to prestigious university
by ivanatahan ini've been debating this, and my mother (the spiritual head of my family, she even controls my father spiritually, who is an elder) doesn't seem to be starkly against me going to a prestigious university.
in fact, i've been going over my chances, and i'd say i have a pretty decent chance of going to my dream university, oxford university, to study philosophy, politics, and economics.
naturally i wouldn't tell my mother about me wanting to take the three most hated subjects of jws at a university that would bring me into bad relations with "spiritually sound jws".. do you guys know any ex-jw or knowledgeable jw who knows ttatt that went to a randall group or ivy league school?

Hi Ivan.
I'm currently in my final year at uni, although not at Oxbridge/Russell group uni.
My uni's way down the list
Deciding to go to uni is the best decision I've made in my life to date.
I think it's fantastic that you have a chance of going up to Oxford!
My advice, FWIW, is go and enjoy your studies. While there's nothing wrong with parties/social events, make your lectures, coursework, essays and exams your main priority.
Just one question, why PPE? Are you thinking of going into politics?

Huge ego, believes he's superior to everyone else, insensitive to others' feelings, judgmental ... he could fit right in with the JWs.
Yes, Simon Cowell could definitely be elder material
