Mormon 'support' for gays, pressure on the WTS?

the mormon / lds church has noticably changed it's stance toward homosexuality and instead of condemning it seems to be supporting protection for people's rights (of course they want to throw some protection for themselves in there as well).. how will this affect the wts?

the lds is the more-successful counterpart to the wts, similar age and history and same non-mainstream appeal.. i have no doubt that the lds church is only changing because they know which way the wind is blowing and society has completely changes it's attitudes towards gay people.

maybe they just want to stay ahead pf the curve before federal legislation enforces people's rights.. now, can we see the wts changing their views" will they be one of the last holdouts?

I'm afraid I agree with Finkelstein and Smiddy - the WTS will possibly even point to the LDS and say that they're becoming 'worldly', aren't maintaining God's standards, etc.

I believe that in a tiny way, the WTS are perhaps softer on gay people than they were. Sort of 'hate the sin, love the sinner'.

The WTS can go strict or liberal on a range of issues, IMO, such as alcohol, dress, grooming, but they have always been strict on sexual matters. I can't see this changing.

Remember, there's a world out there that they must keep separate from

since so many athiests in this thread, and since i'm going to college, i was curious if what i would learn in biology would change my thoughts and show that life clearly and easily spontaneously happened.

just looking up the origins of dna or rna there is nothing conclusive.

for example, scientists today are able to manipulate life.

WTS reform - is it possible?

it unfortunately has pre-enlightenment doctrines and practices, or at least there exists pre-enlightenment interpretation of koranic scripture that support such doctrines and practices.

in a lesser way, and on a lesser scale, the wts too is pre-enlightenment in a sense.

It unfortunately has pre-Enlightenment doctrines and practices, or at least there exists pre-Enlightenment interpretation of Koranic scripture that support such doctrines and practices. In a lesser way, and on a lesser scale, the WTS too is pre-Enlightenment in a sense.

The blood transfusion issue is the obvious one but there's also shunning, rejection of higher ed and cover up of paedophilia.

It may be tempting to say 'down with the WTS' but if this isn't likely, could reform help to protect loved ones stuck in this cult?

I vaguely remember reading some time ago of posters on this forum who argued for WTS reform against others who were dead against the WTS.

Are there any people who believe that such a reform is achievable, and if so, what are they doing about it?

it just dawned on me that one of if not the most deceptive thing that the wt convinces the members of is that the truth does not stand up to investigation.

they teach that lies trump truth.

the reality of course is something entirely different.

I also wonder how much unhappiness, fear and disappointment this popcorn production masks.

Besides, being unhappy is part of real life - you can't be happy all the time, as this vid suggests.

@Xanthippe - as prologos and S&R say, it's 1000 lashes, 50 per week, for Raif Badawi. He also has to pay a fine and complete a 10-year prison sentence in addition to the lashes. All for 'criticising Islam'. If you criticise Islam in UK, you just get called 'Islamophobic' and 'racist'

As for Prince Charles, Cameron and Obama travelling to Saudi, it seems faintly ridiculous. Is Prince Charles still Head of the C of E? And he's travelling to a country where Christianity is banned?

I think cofty has it right: unfortunately we have to deal with KSA and more good will be done behind closed doors than by public postering.

jehovah's witnesses don't have problems hating people, witness hatred is like grows and develops like good red wine.

better wines get more fuller and deeper as time passes by and so does witness hatred towards anyone they tire of.

i venture to say many of you have experienced or felt the hatred of followers of the watchtower organization.

Like Phinehas, radical Muslims possess godly zeal - Numbers 25:8 the writer has a dig at the WTS and radical Islam. It doesn't get much better than that!

I also thought it hilarious that JWs on the ministry were encouraged to explain to radical muslims that shunning is superior to stoning because shunning lasts longer and can be done to many sinners at once!

Trashed WT's found in Dr.s' waiting room Friday. Do you trash literature you find?

took the magazines in the waiting room and dumped them in the trash.

to think many witnoids wont dare throw out the surplus magazines they have in stacks around the house is amazing.

I sometimes have a look around the 'faith room' at uni.

There are often a pair of watchtower and awake magazines there.

Sometimes, I take the magazines home, have a read to see what type of bullsh1t is contained therein, then trash them.

It sure gives a good feeling to read them without rose-tinted WTS specs on, and critically analyse them.

The feeling I get from trashing them comes a close second.
