  ideas like terrorism - terrorism is so much more than simply an idea, but then I guess you already knew this. The severed heads of James Foley, Stephen Sotloff, David Haines , Alan Henning and thousands of others - Syrians, Iraqis, Libyans, Egyptians and Nigerians, show that multiple terrorist groups (Boko Haram, Al Shabaab, Jabhat Al Nusra, ISIS, Al Qaeda and others) are at war with the civilized world.

  there is no WAR that will cure these ills, only a sea change of the world view - this smacks of naivety.

  you have all been an immense help to me as i have come to realize that this isn't the truth so i want to say a great big thank you!

  what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.

  Welcome Stumpy, great OP.

  You're right, it certainly is a crazy ride out of the WTS. I left the un-Truth in early 2007 and I still haven't figured out myself and my place in the world.

  It's good that you're concentrating on finding a sensible path out. As you've said, it's best to consider your wife's feelings so that you can both exit the cult together.

  These people [the poor] will turn to religion to ease their suffering - this explains the rise of religion, generally speaking, in the Third World.

  However, on its own, this doesn't explain the rise in Islamism or why some Muslims are radicalised - Bin Laden was from a wealthy family, lots of extremists emigrating from the West to ISIS have left behind degrees, good jobs, etc.

  after leaving the dub religion behind, i read everything that i could get my hands on, be it about other religions, beliefs, gods, occult, evolution - you name it - i read it.

  i did this to 'catch up' and to educate myself, so that when i can to a decision it would be an intellectual / educational one.

  not just because some book or person told me to believe it.. i have over time and with reading aids come to totally believe and accept evolution.

  I found The Blind Watchmaker (Dawkins) an interesting read. It discussed the objections that critics of evolution raise and then thoroughly answered them.

  i think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.

  he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.

  many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

  I'm really tempted to say death penalty but I don't agree with it.

  So, he should get life IMO, not in a cushy jail but in one of those jails that forces inmates to do back-breaking hard work; every con is a hardcase; better be careful he doesn't drop the soap in the showers, etc.

  Tsarnaev is total scum, like most Islamists. If he gets 200 years or the chair, well, hey ho.

  Christianity's hey day was in the middle ages when most people were illiterate - I've read that Islam had a medieval heyday, too - there was relative tolerance of 'the other' and a thirst to acquire knowledge. We must ask why Islam is apparently regressing, not progressing.

  So, the elders, no doubt under direction from Bethel, hound this poor man and monitory his porn (between consenting adults) habit.

  In Watchtower World, the minor bad habit (if it's a bad habit all) of internet porn ended with suicide.

  The WTS has a history of monitoring what goes on in private between WTS marriage mates.

  The same WTS used to (and still does?) instruct elders to report allegations of child abuse only if the state requires it. At this point I am lost for words ...

  Well, if God were real I'd fear him. Dude's a lunatic. Look at what his worshippers and your fellow believers are doing in Syria/Iraq right now. I'm glad I leave in a secular Western country.

  To the OP: I don't know whether God exists or not.

  [some people] just doesn't want to admit there is something greater than them - I admit that there are people on this forum, and out in the real world, who are greater than me in many matters. God, if he even exists, is also greater than me.

  If God wants me to worship him or live my life in a certain way, he's going to have to come with something better than the bible or the quran.
