If you were a JW in 1967 you no doubt heard this District Overseers talk. It was recorded and shared in almost every JW congregation. Sisters replayed it on cassette recorders everywhere with bated breath. The speaker, District, and Circuit Overseer Charles Sinutko..if still alive...spent his last years in poverty in the run-down community of : Desert Hot Springs CA. ( Unlike Palm Springs a little south...When we looked at real estate in the area, many windows had iron bars...and yards were ringed with block walls and barbed wire...not our idea of retirement).

forty years have passed since then, so is he still alive and still with the watchtower?

by now, it should be painfully obvious that we live in a post tonny morris era where the floods of organizational changes have become possible and a new version of the religion, some have called it warchtower 2.0 is emerging with a soft approach to disfellowshipping practices across the board for all those sinners.

nevertheless 3 groups of people will still be targeted for harsh excommunication, we know the first two well :csa perpetrators and apostates.

Another Watchtower unscriptural official marital "out"...was the proof of adultery rule: If two people JWs, are seen entering a hotel and not leaving for a couple of hours...the "innocent mate" becomes scriptural free." adultery becomes proven. lol

What if they are gay (same sex)? What if the WORK at a hotel? lol.

A Silicon Valley elder tired of his hardworking Holiday Inn, night shift Manager wife, divorced her and re-married claiming he met the Service desk's requirement!!!! She was horrified and denied anything ever happened. What did Watchtower and his elder friends decide?

So he remained an elder and was congratulated on his new marriage.

Since she denied everything, and he had not an inch of proof she remained in "good standing". But was now divorced, and the rank and file assumed she cheated...and shunned her.

2. Run don't walk to see a....psychiatrist... who can diagnose and prescribe medication...if safe for the baby.

Who can forget the late 60s release of the "Truth book" and the 6-month bible study push. The END was too close to take a year or more to get baptized we were at the tippy tip of the end of this system!!!!! I would never graduate from high school, have kids, get married, or hold a job in this old system.

To disagree verbally or by deed was to be shunned by family, friends, and the congregation. Buy or build a home? Have kids? = a whisper campaign.

Watchtower invented the entire blueprint. The original "Family book" added "Spiritual endangerment" as a reason for "scriptural" divorce and re-marriage.

What is spiritual endangerment? Well, it was a nebulous excuse...that became whatever people and a couple of elders decided it was.

Perhaps someone yelled. Missed meetings. Rolled their eyes about "new light". Want sex a particular way...or frequency? Didn't earn enough money? Worked too much or too little? Was not a spiritual leader?

A divorce or separation would follow. The "endangerer" eventually got lonely or horny, dated, was simply alone for a few hours with someone, or had sex...and voila! The one claiming they had been " endangered" became "scripturally free" with the congregation elders and service departments' blessings to remarry.

When did JWS start disfellowshipping and why?

i know this question has been discussed, but i can't find the topic i was just looking at, so.... one thing about this is that the other posters here didn't mention, that i noticed anyway, that there was this member of the gb in the 40s and early 50s (but possibly during rutherford) who was at odds with rutherford or knorr, and they wanted to do away with them, so they accused (falsely) that person, then they declared that the punishment for that sin was something they invented, or at least once iteration of, what we know as the modern disfellowshipping practice among jws.. so, that is why they invented that doctrine; they.

When Rutherford grabbed the reigns of Watchtower upon Russel's death he kicked scads of Bethelites and others to the curb, accusing anyone who wouldn't accept him, as an "Apostate". Effectively "Disfellowshipping" them 1916-17.

Both 3rd gen's mom and mine told stories of wild stuff going on in the 1940s by even the Circuit Overseers that instituted the formal policies in the beginning of the 1950s by Knorr (1952?).
