Take ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you hear or read about US immigration with a LARGE grain of salt.
Growing up in California EVERY spring busloads of agricultural workers went up and down the USA West Coast doing contract agricultural work as various crops matured. Every fall the buses went back to Mexico so the workers could spend the winter with their families. The most skilled and prized workers were asked to stay. My grandfather depended on them every fall for harvest.
Remember, California and most of the US southwest WAS Mexico until the Mexican War. (The US and Texans invaded Mexico :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican%E2%80%93American_War ). Mexican families spend a lot of money as tourists in California every year at Disneyland, National Parks, etc etc. Google RT airfare from Mexico City to LA...as low as $300. Visas and Passports are relatively cheap.
What is expensive and time-consuming is getting RESIDENCY if you are uneducated and poor. So some people steal/copy/buy IDs of Spanish surname Residents and get low-level physically demanding jobs. Wealthy employers deduct TAXES and EVERYTHING from these folks and they pay into every program, they will never be able to use as "illegals". I had a Hispanic police officer friend who had 3 illegals using his Social Security number. I asked him how did he stop it? He replied Why should I? When I retire I will get my state employee retirement and the maximum amount of social security from the efforts of 3 illegals!!! BING BING BING a bell went off in my head...I finally realized WHY with all the talk and Hoopla! Neither political party ever fixed the "immigration problem" in 50 years...because it wasn't a problem for politicians and big businesses...it has been replacing the SSI shortfall for YEARS... And it provides dirt cheap labor for nasty jobs big business and big farms need done CHEAP. Like Chicken processing for $7.25 hr. in the Deep South, produce picking, etc.
Can I prove this? Nope. But it makes sense to me after hearing both parties bang the drum about it for 50 years.

:) LOL I have been waiting for ARMAGEDON since I was 5. I am in my late 60s and MY END is right around the corner.
END DAY BELIEFS HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MAN.
My Mexican PIMI JW cousin was all excited about the Mayan 2012 "End", and took her kids to the movie. She called me all excited! I asked her, I thought you believed the Mayans were Satan worshippers? If Jesus didn't know the day or the hour, you believe Satan did?.. lol She got mad. :)
"In late 2013 and early 2014, English-language media outlets widely reported that Ragnarök was foretold to occur on 22 February 2014.[153] Apparently patterned after the 2012 phenomenon, the claim was at times attributed to a "Viking Calendar"."
"apocalypticism is the religious belief that the end of the world is imminent, even within one's own lifetime.[1] This belief is usually accompanied by the idea that civilization will soon come to a tumultuous end due to some sort of catastrophic global event.[1]
Apocalypticism is one aspect of eschatology in certain religions, the part of theology concerned with the final events of human history, or the ultimate destiny of humanity (societal collapse, human extinction, and so on).[2]
Religious apocalypticism
[edit]Religious views and movements often focus on cryptic revelations about a sudden, dramatic, and cataclysmic intervention of God in history; the judgment of humanity; the salvation of the faithful elect; and the eventual rule of the elect with God in a renewed heaven and earth.[3] Arising initially in Zoroastrianism, apocalypticism was developed more fully in Judaic, Christian, and Islamic eschatological speculation.[1][4][5][6][7]"
But WAIT there's more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypticism

The World Health Organization Prostitude
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/ksw9ujgm2i0?si=ruesgp-s6evmpdik.
as a second pandemic is now in the horizon mpox or monkey pox as they like to call it, it is important to scrutize the advise the governing body provided last time around with covid and how they sided 100% with the governents and their medical directives and lockdowns and how they imposed one-sided narrative in congregations around the world even threatening elders who refused to obey their direction....
-

Monkey Pox is a bunch of hoopla in my opinion.
So far it is just skin to skin contact, primarily sexual.
So unless you live in a big city (and touch everything) or plan to visit the Congo for sex, I see no reason to get worked up.
My personal opinion.

Jehovah's Witnesses came by today.
by 3rdgen inthis morning i was in our front yard sitting down pulling weeds when i saw 3 people slowly walking on the sidewalk in my direction.
2 of them were young, handsome, clean shaven, wearing nice crisp white shirts and perfectly tailored black slacks.
they could have been mormons except.... there was a 60ish portly woman wearing a frumpy dress and ugly sandals.

First Church Service at 55 years Old
by SouthCentral ini went to a christening at a church today, a black church.
it was an incredible experience!!
women were an active part of the service, and the people were very welcoming.

South Central, I am glad you had a good time.
There is a lot of variation even in JW Halls. I found JW Black and Hispanic congregations I was a member of in Brooklyn and California, much more welcoming and friendly. The comments and music were more lively, and some halls ignored headquarters' rules and had picnics and ball games.
There is a non Denominational church a block from us and a Unitarian church that send out neighborhood invitations for Classical music concerts, Madrigal concerts, and various events. We have never attended any events. I think Watchtower$$ poisoned that well for us.

Did your witness family have a 'Thanksgiving' that wasn't on Thanksgiving?
by SydBarrett inmy family had several elders, ministerial servants, auxillary pioneers etc, so it certainly wasn't one of those 'barely in' families.
but in certain small ways, i think mine were slightly less hard line than some other families i've heard stories about over the years.
one example was the 'fall dinner'.

Every Thanksgiving weekend my extended JW family had a Thanksgiving Dinner(including Elders, Gilead Grads, Ex-C.O.s.). Lots of wine, Turkey, gravy, potatoes, yams, stuffing. A real mini family reunion. Invariably one of my cousins would say "Isn't wrong to celebrate Thanksgiving? " The adults would respond "We all have the day off, Turkeys are on sale...AND Pagans didn't celebrate Thanksgiving." After a long prayer, we all dug into eat! YUM!! Pumpkin Pie and Scotch for dessert. lol :)

I'll PM you Dagney.
No sense getting double double ostracized by any peeping tom relatives cruising the site. :)
3rd gen has been getting better and better at " informal anti-witnessing" around town. Always willing to smile hug, and get in a few though provoking zingers.
The word must be getting around however. A few young moms looked like they saw a ghost and made a quick exit when they saw her shopping last year.

Would you be able to survive a three day Assembly?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe last assembly i attended was over 10 years ago.
the monotone speakers, boring talks, uncomfortable seats, long prayers and nodding off after the lunch break did me in.
i survived the morning sessions, but the afternoon sessions were brutal.

Disgruntled Fool,
No it was an earlier one. Mid 60s. I just remember a rain storm we wore plastic bags for. Followed by extreme heat, when my mom fainted and fell on the stairs. ...and DISNEYLAND!! I must have been about 7-8.
