my first post! (long read sorry in advance)

long time lurker, first time poster here finally looking to get some things off my chest.

i've always been a very curious person with tons of questions about everything, and i also care deeply particularly about societal issues like social injustice, racism, and homophobia.

that, coupled with how boneheaded all the elders in my congregation are (except for one), led me to ask even more questions that led me to find ttatt.. .

"Lett's Party" is a total crack-up name! Made my day.

Getting out takes time. I made the mistake in saying too much too soon to my still in wife.

Reminds me of when we first got the "truth" and said too much too soon and drove all of our "worldly friends" away from us.

Dial it back. Be patient. Ask for your wife's view on "bible understanding" without using WT publications.

Have her put it in writing and to take her time. Be willing to hear her out and beware the tendancy to insult her faith or the ORG as this will be taken personally. Give her as much time as she needs. ( a year or longer if that is what it takes ).

It's taken me four years to get where I am today, don't expect here to wake up overnight.

Your story has little pieces of all of us in it to some degree. Thanks for taking the time to post it here.

1 - still think it's the truth ...came to this site cause danger is your middle name.. 2 - concerned, smoething's amiss but still believe.

3 - 98% sure it's bs, but still go for / with family.

4 - anger / denial, inactive with minimal attendance (ie memorial, spec talk etc).

Why do you come here?

i come here to learn, but i also come here because it feels like a private club and i'm privy to be a member of the "in" crowd.

it's a great place to socialize.

does anyone else feel that they are a member of a special "club" when they come here, that only some people in this world will understand the jw world?.

Reflections - Updating MD card - did you stop updating?

i finally removed my md card from my wallet yesterday.. although we were encouraged to create a new card annually, i had an internal hesitation, and a lack of enthusiam for it, as well as the meaningless cards for my kids.. the card that was pulled from my wallet was dated 1994. i obviously had some unconscious, if not conscious, problems with the borg, maybe with the 1995 generations bs.. did others stop updating their cards long before exiting?.

I bet signing and maintaining one's "Advanced Medical Directives" is near the top of the list of first things stopped by nearly everyone that leaves.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was done subconsiously by most, either.

Last signed card was in '99.
The last meeting I attended was the "Annual" in 2013...

I alreay had started disobeying 15 years ago and didn't even know it yet.
