Then add in the paper, envelopes and postage involved in the Russian 'letter writing campaign' that back fired....
i was just pondering whether jws are capable of having a calm, in depth discussion about religious or faith topics?.
i have just finished listening to a great podcast by "dogma debate" (dan) episode 333. this fantastic, in-depth conversation between a theist and an atheist was a masterful example of how a dignified conversation can take place without it resorting to abruptness or even nastiness.. jws on the other hand seem incapable of having such discussion without ending up in the following ways:.
1)they get dogmatic and defensive if a differing view is presented.. 2)if the conversation doesn't go their way, they cut it short saying something like "well, we had better agree to disagree" or the like.. so why the arrogance?
sadly, this describes most conversations with my still-in wife.

I asked her if that means following whatever the GB tell you to do and believe until you die?
That didn't go over very well.
Let's chalk that up to a 'what not to do' example...

There is no shortage of detailed accounts of ruined lives of those that left JWs.

I actually quit attending memorials at the KH several years before my exit.
They really frown upon crying and emotion.
As if it is 'wrong'.
I need to mourn in a natural, healthy way that may include crying.

Can you even imagine this scenario:
My JW wife dies and I agree to go to her memorial.
She's well loved, so it would be a full house.
Me, admitted apostate, what? When do i come in? Late. Sit in the back?
Would they even mention me in the talk?
Would anyone acknowledge me on any level?
After years of shunning, could anyone not see the hypocrisy?
I'll stand out front with my own makeshift memorial and simple message for all to read as they drive in:
'You used to love me'

I never enjoyed being told what to think or believe as a dub.
Like so many, I never researched the WTBTS history until I quit the meetings.
After that I researched for 6-12 hours a day. 1000s of hours and ( gasp )
YouTube videos! I was forced to honestly admit that it wasn't the truth as much pain and loss that would cause me. Being DFd sealed the deal.
Think about the response you might get from a PIMI dub if you blurted out all the failures of Watchtower. Total rejection with a side of shunning!
I'll not tell you what to believe.

For me, I don't know what was more troubling, awakening to the truth of Watchtower or the Geocentric model
I woke up from the Matrix only to find myself on the Truman Show.
