so i just met with an old 'friend' who wanted a 'chat' after no contact for the best part of 4 years.

she obviously heard about the wonderful news of my abrupt fade :d. i guess i wanted to prove to myself that any future meet ups/chats with jw's would be pointless.

needless to say i proved myself right.

Steve - Totally agree. When i spoke with my Mum a few months back about some of my issues she rolled off so much bs with no backup to what she was saying it was unbelievable. I've seen this pattern repeated time and time again on here with other members, on youtube videos and other ex-jw sites. No wonder they're not getting much increase in the western world.

The thing is Steve, I was out with the dog and didn't really have the time or inclination to prepare anything! I'd just come home from work and was hungry, need i say more...?

I assumed nothing, but i do agree with your evaluation, she's not the brightest and I doubt her critical thinking skills even exist. Sadly there's too many such one's caught up in all of this.

I did not engage in the conversation with any particular goal in mind, as I simply wanted to confirm my view, that all JW's will resort to a similarly defensive attitude, which she did. I also did not want to go into too much detail of reasons for my fade. I made this very clear at the start of our conversation! It's been an easy ride for us so far and don't really want to change that just yet ;)

I did not want to change her mind, hell I couldn't care less if she saw TTATT. Most JW's likely will never see it IMHO. I'm too busy enjoying my life with my family!

Yeah I know about '75. I remember reading an article where they basically said the R&F got over exited and read too much into stuff put out by the Borg. Couldn't find anything about 1914 during my 6 months of research before abruptly fading with my family.

I think witto's just love to make shit up, my Mum did the same thing when I spoke to her.

I guess I wanted to prove to myself that any future meet ups/chats with JW's would be pointless. Needless to say I proved myself right. She basically wanted to hear my reasons for leaving from the horses mouth. I kept things very vague but the 1914 Armageddon teaching came up. She seemed to believe there was a retraction/apology in WT publications saying they believed the Big A was due then but obviously this didn't happen so sorry...

Does anyone know of anything published by the WT that comes even close to this, as I sure as hell can't think of any written material that had a retraction or apology???!

This will be the last time I allow myself to get into a discussion about even trivial JW stuff as i have so many more important things to be getting on with. No point in wasting anymore time on the Cult!!!

been reading for about 2 and a half years, thought i would take the plunge and sign up.. my circumstances... i live in uk, serving as ms. i am fully awake.

i can not leave due to family, so just treating the meetings as a bit of a social club.

i would like to give out more details, but i think you all know the drill.. complete disillusionment and i suppose natural curiosity woke me up.. don't know what else to say right now, just hello, and i hope to get to know some of you guys better.

It all makes sense to me now!!! I found myself completely switching off at meetings for a good 3 years before encountering TTATT. I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't feel the same zeal for going out in service and why I couldn't be arsed to answer at meetings for months at a time.

I would always get over excited when coming home from meetings (yes i was a grown man at this stage) and it used to drive my wife crazy, but there simply hasn't been any mental stimulation there for a loooong time now.

The only people being enticed into the cult locally have been, let's say, the more cognitively challenged individuals in the territory... doesn't say much for their 'teaching program'.

hi this is for the lurkers.. please start reading from another translation and use tools like www.biblehub.com to verify the differences you find.. biblehub has an interlinear and a strongs concordance and heaps of dictionaries and commentaries.. you don't have to be a translator but you can clearly see how the watchtower bible and tract society has changed the bible to devalue jesus, to support their idea of a paradise earth hope for christians and many other false doctrines.. i could never understand why the jw's where attacked when they chose to translate the bible - now i know.. seriously people, there are a lot smarter people than me on this forum and heaps of research.
