  1. Here's a quote from one of your anti-war buddies from a recent thread "I do not support the troops and their tasks in Iraq" You go and ask the troops which side THEY feel is supporting them. Their voices should carry the most weight.

  3. It is documented FACT that Saddam once had copius amounts of chem/bio wepons. UN resolution 1441 said he must tell us where they are now or what happened to them. Saddam refused. Are you so out of touch with reality as to honestly believe that he's destroyed them all and just doesn't want to show us the destruction documents?

  4. Not getting into an argument about symantics here over the word "bribe." Food for oil, nuclear plant parts for oil contracts, aid for support, weapons for hostages, call it what you will. I call it politics and if you think liberals and Democrats haven't done it in the past or won't do it in the future, you are even further out of touch with reality than I tell people.

  5. Obviously we have a fight with the Iraqi people. I mean, look at the billions in aide we're sending. Look at the soldiers risking their lives to keep the aid supply routes open. Look at the money we're spending on precision weapons when it would be so much cheaper carpet bomb the whole damn place. Anyone can see that we don't care about the civilians. MORONS!

  I'm not going to continue. Each point is so transparant as to be laughable. Anyone could take those same points, replace a group of democrats or liberals as the villans, and cite their own facts that would be just as damning to the other side.

  you guide your soldier through the enemy terrain and discover an enemy outpost ... which then surrenders.

  Love that game. Me and my girl have started calling Rick Leventhal "Foley" from that game. Kinda looks like him doncha think? We never shot the sheep herders that occasionaly pop up but after all these reports of Iraqi soldiers in civilian cloths, maybe we should start. LOL

  i've heard several comments on this site about how oppressive dictatorship and lopping heads of women, while repugnant to us, is simply part and parcel of the culture in the middle east.

  about how we should not be trying to force freedom on the people of iraq because the freedom and happiness known by the average joe in western culture is directly at odds with the culture of the middle east.

  about how even thought many hate saddam they will fight on his side against the us and brittan because they see it as our culture vs their culture instead of as a liberation from opression and forced poverty.

  Joann, you know what I'm talking about. Comparing the quality of life, mis-distribution of wealth, and poverty between America and Iraq is like comparing the creek in my back yard to the Nile River. There is no comparison everyone knows it.

  Good point against encouraging the demise of non-progressive cultures.

  Playing the part of devil's advocate, I put this forward:

  It seems evident that what we are calling the "higher" culture for the purposes of this discussion is attempting to push the horizons of human exploration (international space station, Mars exploration), is continuing to push forward the science of medicine (looking for cures to AIDS and cancer), is trying to encourage tollerance and equality (the Political Correctness movement, afirmative action, women's sufferage), and cares about the welfare of humankind as a whole (billions of aid from the US and Europe to people less fortunate). Now I ask you to look at the culture prevalant in the Middle East, and answer this question: Does that culture encourage or hinder the progression of humankind?

  OH---MY----GOD. If anyone is honestly offended by this they should really go live in a cabin in the woods somewhere far from the real world. It's a harsh world out there and there's a lot that's not pink and fuzzy. People say "niggardly" and people wear fur and other people even make jokes that are not utterly sterilized and boring. GET OVER IT! Of course the wolves out in the woods kill and eat rabbits so close your eyes too.

  Obviously your answer is no.

  To clarify, I am not saying I think that the answer is yes, I was just asking a question to see what people thought. I should also point out that I'm not talking about a power grab by the US or even specificly about the current war. I'm talking about the free and open culture that exists in nearly all of Europe and North America, as well as in places like Japan and South Korea and how it is obviously more progressive and contributes more toward the future of humankind as opposed to the culture, prevalent in the Middle East but in existance elsewhere, where a severe minority accumulates all the wealth at the cost of placing the rest of the socity in abject poverty and keeps all the power, using it to brutalize and quell the populace thru fear. Also, even if the answer is yes, I don't believe we've yet reached that "point" that I speak of in my original post.

About how, when taken in the context with, and with an understanding of, Middle Eastern culture, the suicide killings of innocent women and children is not so incoprehensable as a way of forwarding one's cause. My question is this:

  Is there a point where one widely practiced culture becomes so overwhelmingly more progessive and benificial than another, when viewed thru the scope the history of humankind, that it becomes moraly acceptable (or even moraly required) for the higher culture to make an effort to phase out the lower one for the sake of the future of the people stuck in that culture and for humankind in general?

  I've heard Iraqi's say "all Iraqis this" and "all Iraqis that." Just because this guy used the term all Iraqis dosen't plant doubt in my head. Doubt was already there. I doubt nearly every report I hear, wherever it comes from. But regardless of the credibility of this single story, it does show a side of this issue that a lot of idealistic liberals don't want to hear. It's good for them to read this.

  after iraq has been invaded/liberated.....will congregations begin to sprout up?

  at the end of the cold war the witnesses increased their numbers in the eastern bloc quite dramatically from what i remember.. will the same happen in iraq?.

  who will go to 'spread the good news'?....how many will say 'here i am send me'?

  Ohh, I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, that area has enough religious extremists already and doesn't need any more. On the other hand, extremists of the JW kind don't committ suicide bombings against innocent people. Lesser of two evils I guess. Lets hope Bill Gates goes over there and converts them all into secular entrepreneurs.
