Mine were around $300, and I have super-crappy eyesight, so they were the more expensive, thinner lenses so they don't look like Coke-bottles on my face.
Honey-bunny buys fancy ones that are like $600, because he's a slave to fashion.
(gretchen- don't worry, you're not screwed. You can find nice glasses for less than this, if you don't need all the fancy features.)

I'd been drifting away, discouraged, disenchanted, disgusted. I hadn't been to the k-hall in a few months, and decided I wasn't going to miss the Memorial. Only two people spoke to me, and I got a lot of dirty looks. I should point ouut that I was not df'ed or on reproof, just sick and inactive. After the talk, I ducked into the ladies' room, where an elder's wife told me I was a whore. I'm grateful to her, as she made my decision to never return an easy one.

Forum History Lesson: Any ungratefuls?
by under_believer ini see a lot of posts here from people who, even though they've had trials and difficulties because of learning the truth about the truth, are appreciative and say things like "thank god for jwd!
it really set me free!
i'm curious whether anybody has ever come on here, learned the truth, accepted it and recognized it for the truth, but been unhappy because it meant trial and tribulation, hypocrisy, regret, change.

Well, I'm not sure this is what you're talking about, but I know of at least two or three people who, after having been members of this board for a while (and speaking quite openly about their disillusionment with the org.,)eventually opted to remain witnesses, at least for the time being. These weren't so much cases of "ungratefulness" as they were acknowledgements of the difficulty of leaving behind all of one's friends and family, belief system, sense of order, etc., in favor of an uncertain future in a world we were taught to be terrified of. I believe these people will leave, eventually. But they can't make a successful escape until they're emotionally ready for the fallout, and that can take longer for some people.

PETA Protest Backfires
by Stephanus inhttp://www.gjsentinel.com/news/content/news/stories/2006/05/18/5_18_1a_kfc_protest.html
a human inside an injured-chicken costume, hobbling in protest on the sidewalk wednesday in front of a kentucky fried chicken restaurant, didnt achieve the desired effect, according to many who dined there.. brad steig called wednesdays protest in grand junction by the people for the ethical treatment of animals good advertising for kfc.. the protest consisted of four adults and one child holding signs in front of the restaurant, handing out fliers and dvds and urging people to not eat at kfc until the restaurant buys chickens from humane vendors.. steig, a manager for halliburton, said he heard about the peta protest on the radio and decided right then to eat at kfc on wednesday, the day of the protest.. not only that, but he bought seven of the biggest buckets of chicken and all the side dishes and used four trips to load them into his halliburton pickup to treat his co-workers.
i don't know if there's an "ultimate" right-wingers' fantasy, but collecting 7 buckets of fried chicken in a halliburton pick-up in front of a peta protester must come pretty close.

I agree, sometimes the PETA folks can be absolute twits. However, if you've ever been inside one of those enormous facilities where animals are raised, slaughtered, and processed for sale, you'd most likely be horrified, and you'd understand why these folks are so committed to their cause. The conditions, in even the best of these facilities, are deplorable and cruel. I would never allow my cat to be treated like that; therefore I can't justify allowing a chicken or a cow to receive such treatment, not when viable alternatives exist. I just feel that would be hypocritical. I've been a vegetarian for about 24 years, and I don't find it to be a hardship, there's always plenty for me to eat, without killing another creature.

OMG i just found my baptisim video
by Es inand it sure was a laugh, in melbourne they have the convention at the tennis centre with most of vic jw going there.
i think round the time i got baptised there were around 14,000 in attendance.. theres footage of the convention, there footage of us volunteers early in the morning making sandwhiches in our gorgeous cloth hats and aprons, and then theres my baptisim,.
sure brought back a lot of memories.

Once when I was a teenager, I was watching the baptisms, and this woman didn't go under all the way, her hand or something stuck out of the water. For some strange reason, I didn't say anything when it became apparent that I was the only one who saw this. As she walked away, I realized that I alone knew that she was not truly baptised, but still I held my tongue; I don't know why. For years, this haunted me, but now I know it's not important anyway.

What is the naughtiest thing you ever did during a dist./circuit assembly?
by lovernotafighter in.
i,ve done a few, but one of the best was going to see strippers with two other young brothers.. anyone else do anything fun or taboo?

During one assembly, I sat with a brother I liked, and the two of us "took notes." Except, what we actually did was write down dirty stuff we wanted to do with each other, then we'd exchange notebooks and read what the other had written. Well, at the time, it felt incredibly naughty.
The last assembly I attended, my worldly boyfriend came with me to the city, about an hour from the town where we both lived. He planned to do some shopping and whatnot, whilst I sat through the propaganda session, and we'd maybe meet up that evening. Well, I sat there during the first talk, looking about me at all the people, and they just looked like brainwashed zombies to me, and I got very sad, and the brother giving the talk said something nasty about feminism that rubbed me the wrong way, and I got angry. I realized it was a beautiful Saturday morning and my lover was three blocks away having a beer while I was wasting my life in a whitewashed tomb. I stood up and left, taking my purse and cellphone, but leaving my bible and songbook on the seat. I met up with Honey-bunny at a nearby bar, announced to him and the bartender that I'd just escaped from having my brain sucked dry by the witnesses, then I took him home and made passionate love to him (the boyfriend, not the bartender) while those in the assembly hall grovelled through another hymn to his majesty. I still attended a few meetings after that, but I guess we all knew it was the beginning of a very happy ending (no pun intended.)

Kids referring to older ones as AUNTIE or UNCLE
by lowden ini don't know about other patrs of the world but in the uk, youngsters were expected to refer to older ones as auntie or uncle.
i publicly told my children not to do this, i thought it was reeeeally creepy.
my main reason for this is that i think it creates trust in people that are strangers to the family unit and for some kids, it's part of the grooming process for molestation.

When I worked in a Chinese restaurant a few years back, after a few months I started noting that the owner's children, and other the children of various relatives who were there quite a bit, all started calling me Auntie. One of the older kids told me it was a gesture of respect, which they felt I had earned during those six months. I loved it, I thought it was absolutely adorable, but remember, these were kids I knew fairly well by that time.
In Texas, I recall one sister from the hall telling her kids to call me Miss Elizabeth when I came over to babysit. I found this charming, as well. I guess this sort of thing would feel strange, however, if I didn't know the kids pretty well.

Missed the danged memorial!
by Insomniac inhey, all.
so, i was at work, and a buddy of mine came in and told me he'd been invited to the memorial by my cousin, who's a witness.
he didn't end up going, as he thought it sounded strange that he, as a practicing christian, wouldn't be allowed to partake of the wine and bread.

Hey, all. So, I was at work, and a buddy of mine came in and told me he'd been invited to the memorial by my cousin, who's a witness. He didn't end up going, as he thought it sounded strange that he, as a practicing Christian, wouldn't be allowed to partake of the wine and bread. I was really amazed that this event, which used to be the biggest day of the year for me, came and went without my even noticing. My last meeting I attended was the memorial, three years ago, so I guess this marks my third anniversary of freedom, which is pretty cool. Otherwise, I'm surprised at how little I care at this point. I guess that's a sign of progress on my part. Love to all- Elizabeth

I stand by my original comment: you should have worked all this mess out before you had sex with, and fathered a child by, a lady you were unsure about. My guess is that it's your self-pitying attitude and lack of commitment that are pissing her off. Have the two of you seen a relationship counselor yet? Now might be a good time to explore that option; I know when my car is functioning as badly as your relationship is, I get it to a mechanic asap. Do you value your relationship as much as your car? And why, why, WHY did you feel it was ok to make a baby with someone, but not to marry them? Please don't bring any more kids into this world until the both of you have started acting like adults.

You could have told her about your indecision/ambivalence/indifference before you got her pregnant, before you had sex with her, before you made her believe you held her in any special esteem. She apparently was under the impression that you were emotionally comitted to her, when in fact you weren't. That's likely the reason she's now upset with you.
