I just tossed all my old books in the trash. I didn't make a big ceremony of it; I just chucked them as I came across them while dusting, like any other detritus. I might still have a NWT Bible in with my other religious reference books, but everything else is gone, I think.

Muslim Foot Washing Basin Controversy In Indianapolis!
by AK - Jeff inhttp://www.wthr.com/global/story.asp?s=7116865&nav=9tai.
i find it curious, but take no particular view at this point.
i can only imagine that such a thing [let's say a christian chapel] for christians would not ever come under consideration.

I'm not very familiar with the Muslim faith; most people in my state are Christian. However, in the past few years, we've had several thousand Somalis relocated here. Now, people in my state can be very provincial in their attitudes, and distrustful of people from outside our state. So, we've got a bunch of folks who are: not from Maine, not from the U.S., not white, not Christian, and who, at least in the beginning, did not speak our language. Oh, and the Somali women wear very distinctive clothing, including headscarves. We were prepared for all sorts of anti-Somali, anti-Muslim talk from the locals. Amazingly, though, after a period of adjustment, everyone seems to be getting along just fine.
One of the larger companies up here has hired a large number of Somalis- for custodial and factory jobs at first, then other jobs as they learned sufficient English. A group of Somali men who worked in the warehouse were washing their feet in the men's restroom before they prayed. This got water all over the floors, and their co-workers were upset with the mess. Someone in management took the trouble to get someone bilingual to ask the Somali men what the deal was with all the water. On discovering it was a religious practice, the company installed a special room with foot-baths for them. By all accounts, it's not at all fancy, nor did the company spend all that much money on it. But it was a simple gesture to ease tensions between both parties, and it's done the trick. The other workers have not seen this concession as an example of favoritism, or as a repudiation of the Christian faith, nor should they! It's just a convenience for all concerned.

Speaking of ugly faces...
My current avatar is a pic of the greatest musician on the planet, Shane McGowan (of the Pogues.) Just 'cause I like him, and his face makes me smile. For the longest time, my avvy was a pic of Theda Bara, because I wish like hell I looked like her. Won't use my own picture, as I hate the way I look in photos.

Hah, I'm still, after several years of being gone, the subject of gossip. The sad thing is, my life is so truly boring in reality- the stuff they've made up about me sounds so much more fun!

Cemeteries; They're not Just for Burying, Anymore.
by prophecor ini live in a metropolitan area.
crime is on a rampage in this city, in fact, we're #1 in the country as far as murders per capita statistic go.
where does one go to find a safe outing for your morning jog, daily walk, or just to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city life?

Shell- That seems like a good compromise, one that won't get you in trouble with the law.

My town has some lovely cemetaries, with graves going back to the 1600's. One of my dear friends is a groundskeeper/gravedigger for the city cemetaries, and I've seen firsthand the hard work and devotion he pours into these places. They're immaculately tended, with beautiful landscaping, ponds, and winding pathways. It would seem a waste to only visit them on sad occasions!

I was Wiccan for about three years, now I'm more comfortable with the term Pagan. Wicca can be extremely focused on the rituals, and while the structure of it was helpful to me at the time, it's not the path I need to be on right now. Fortunately, Maine has a large and active Pagan community, so I have the option of taking part in group ritual for big holidays like Beltaine and Samhain. Usually, though, I'm a solitary witch.

In a quaint little town on the coast of Maine, preparing to open shop for the day- I was working in a health-food store while going to college. They announced the first plane hitting the tower on the radio program I was listening to, and while they were announcing it, the second plane hit. All day long in class, we kept getting conflicting accounts of what was going on- written in my day planner are the words "White House is on fire (???)." That evening, I went home and, with my best friend and his boyfriend, watched tv and prayed for the victims.

i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.
had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

I got in trouble for being too goth. Totally black wardrobe, black eyeliner, naturally black hair. Hey, at least my skirts were well below my knees!
