Has Anyone Ever Met Any Celebrities?
by imallgrowedup inthis is a spin-off of another thread where my *mild and chaste* friend, mouthy, admitted to wanting to meet her dream man, tom jones, and that she would even go so far as to throw her bloomers at him, if that is what it would take to get his attention!
well, the mental picture this painted was far too much for me to bear, so i encouraged her to save her red polka-dotted "unmentionables", not only because she might need them in the future, but because i didn't think she'd have to go that far to get his attention.
and i said that - because of a personal experience with him.

The director, Richard Linklater. He filmed a movie (one of his 1st) in the town where I lived, and the best scene in the whole movie was filmed in a diner owned by some people I knew. I got to watch them film it, and my friend's father got to play himself in the scene.

just a thought
by jukesjoker inthis is a question that keeps bugging me, if a non-jw were charming or good looking enough would the jw have a relationship with that non-jw?
or would the jw think it was a test and stick to his or her guns and still reject that person.

Y'all, if I may add something:
I was a jw in good standing when I met the love of my life. I leveled with him, told him all about what my religion entailed, and the restrictions it would put on our relationship. Instead of showing me the door as I'd expected, he told me that he wanted to have me in his life in whatever capacity possible. He never once tried to change me, just stood by me as I made my own journey out of dub-dom. We just celebrated our 5th anniversary (relationship, not marriage) and I've not been to a meeting in a year.
So there.

Do you still believe in God?
by IT Support ini'm a recent departee and am now re-evaluating all my previous beliefs and there's none more fundamental.
however, i'm not sure where to start: i'm sure i don't need to say there's an enormous amount of nonsense out there.
frankly, in spite of their other stupid teachings, i am considering reviewing again the articles in wt library as i think they do try to sincerely prove the existence of god.

With no real proof, just my gut feelings, I believe very strongly in Her.

Abortion....
by Country Girl ini used to think that jw's, as a general rule, were against abortion.
however, after asking my pioneer mother, they are against someone, especially the government, dictating freedom of choice.
fundamentally, she ws against it, but said that if it was the law that someone got an abortion, that was the law and she had to abide by it and people could do what they wanted and they'd have to live with it.

Wait, I was told that it was murder of another human, therefore totally forbidden, whether legal or not. What's the official rule, anybody who still has literature to look it up?

OK, long story, but very cool:
One hot Austin afternoon, I ducked into a bar for a soda. The bar, deserted but for a couple of youngish guys and the bartender, was cool and dim. One of the men began to pluck at his guitar-not really a performance, just idle strumming. He mumbled the lyrics of some song I'd never heard.
Eventually, he got a little more into his music, playing more decisively, only occasionally singing the words. Mostly, he just just made that guitar sing. I sat for about 20 minutes, just listening to this sweet, pure music, so different from anything I had ever heard before. All the sadness and pain in the world was coming out of that guitar, and it was transcendentally beautiful.
When the young man finally put the guitar away and sat back down with his friend, I took a moment to tell him how much I'd enjoyed his playing-that he was good enough to be a professional musician. He told me that he had, in fact, played a few gigs from time to time. He thanked me for the encouragement; I made sure to get his name before I left, telling him that if he ever pressed a record, I'd buy a copy.
About a year later, I was in a record store that carried a lot of local stuff, Austin being a big music town. On a whim, I checked to see if that young guy had ever done anything with his talent. I found to my shock (and joy) that he had put out a fair number of recordings already. The humble young guy I met was one of the greatest bluesmen of all time, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Ladies....do you still talk to your ex's?
by logansrun inladies,.
how do you feel about speaking with ex-boyfriends?
can you still be "friends" with someone you broke up with?

I admire the hell out of people who can remain friends with their exes. My boyfriend is still on cordial terms with his ex-wife, but then she lives in another state, so it's easier; his ex-girlfriend in our town absolutely hates him, and vice-versa.
While I find it admirable, I've never been able to do it, not because I hate the guys-in fact, I feel a very deep affection for most of them. It just never works, is all. The conversations are too awkward, and the brothers I've dated would no doubt want nothing to do with a sinner like me at this point. So, warmest regards to all the boys I've loved before (Abel C., Tim E., David R., but not Julio!), and don't wait for my call.

Flipping off an elder's wife
by Insomniac ina couple of days ago, i was running a few errands before a meeting with my professor.
i was in such a happy mood, chatting with the store clerk about the weather, etc.
when i turned around to leave, there was the elder's wife, standing in the middle of the store, staring at me with undisguised venom.

I was in such a happy mood, chatting with the store clerk about the weather, etc. When I turned around to leave, there was the elder's wife, standing in the middle of the store, staring at me with undisguised venom. Looking like she wanted to hit me or something. Granted, she's always been an unpleasant woman (who tells other sisters they look like whores, always out of other people's earshot), but I've done NOTHING to her. In fact, I'm not even df'd or anything, I just stopped attending meetings some time ago.
I couldn't think of a thing I wanted to say to her, so without taking the cheery smile off my face, I calmly flipped her the bird and strolled out to my car. I still can't believe I did that, it was petty and rude, but damn, it was worth it to see the look on her face-utter astonishment!
Has anyone else done something so childish and gotten so much amusement from it? And what were the consequences, if any? So far, they have not tried to contact me, so maybe they've truly given up on me.

Were YOU Considered A "Good Example" In The Congregation???
by minimus inor were you considered "weak"?

Dawn, me too! I went through a couple of superdub phases, but ultimately could not maintain it for long. I have to hand it to anyone that could! The rest of the time, I was the single sister that dated too many brothas, and took too many coffee breaks in service. I think they were glad when I left, all I did was serve as the bad example in the congregation.

Guinness, once in a while. Sapporo, when I can get it. And raspberry lambic when I've been really good.
