GentlyFeral- if you liked Smoke Signals (excellent movie, by the way!) you might enjoy Dance me Outside. It takes place on a rez in Canada. It's sometimes funny, often upsetting, thought-provoking, beautiful. Hard to find, but worth it.

The perception of "net" persona's
by Retrograderenegades insince it seems people have trouble with percieving the transparency of others, i thought the idea of a "thread" for this was dy-no-mite!
(not only that but i also have a knack for mischief).
anyway...cyg have you won the oscar yet

Oh, this is just unseemly. Retro, if you have an issue with Cygnus, act like an adult and take it up via pm. It's in incredibly poor taste to air this stuff publicly, and what's more, most of us don't care to hear all this crap. I don't know you or Cygnus personally, but he's already posted about the loss of his dog, and it seems the guy is genuinely hurting. Can you not, please, lay off him for a bit, or at least quit trying to publicly trash him?
Once again, pm's are the most mature way to handle this stuff.

People who never cry....
by JH in.
does this mean that they have less feelings, or that they were taught not to show their feelings, or they don't have any?

zulukai, I just thoroughly read your post. I'm so sorry about your mother. You're right about that pain; I lost my grandmother recently, and I thought I would die from it. I'm hoping it lessens with time (for you and for me.)

For whatever personal reasons, a lot of us don't cry. Personally, I rarely do, not even when horrific things are happening in my life that would warrant a good cry. Then once in a while, for no significant reason (I forgot to pay my electric bill, I'm reading a very sad book, etc.) I bust out sobbing and can't stop. Sometimes I cry when I'm in the car alone, for absolutely no reason at all. My boyfriend has seen me cry a couple of times due to extreme stress or physical pain, but he's probably the only one who has. It's private.
The problem that we non-emotional types face is that others think we have no feelings, simply because we don't express them as overtly. I've been told all my life that I'm cold, unfeeling, inhuman. But I feel everything just as keenly as anyone else, and while I may not show it, I hurt just as much. Maybe that's why I post here so much; it's like being a different person. When there's just a keyboard and a monitor in front of me, I can let loose with the emotions that I can't express face-to-face, and people treat me as though I'm human. It's a really nice feeling.

I opened up the drawer where I keep my movies, to check. Apparently, I watch a lot of "guy" movies, where lots of people get blown up and say the F-word a lot: Goodfellas, Godfather I and II, Red Dragon, Kill Bill. This puzzles me, as I don't see myself as being that kind of person.
Also, lots of old Chaplin movies, and a few dramas like A.I. and Mystery Train. Nothing romantic, as those movies strike me as just cheesy and unrealistic.
An interesting recommendation this past spring from the guy at the local independant video store was Vintage Erotica-Anno 1930. It's a collection of vintage French porno shorts; some pieces were howlingly funny, while others were better quality and more artsy, with the nudity being merely incidental to the story. Not what I'd usually pick, but fascinating just the same.

Dansk- Great news!!! I'm happy things are getting a bit more normal for you; home is always so much better than a hospital room! Take care of yourself. ~E.

I think if your next thousand posts aren't as good as your first thousand, you get booted off.
Hubert, I don't think that'll be a problem, as I mostly write rambling, nonsensical tripe. So, the bar's already been set pretty low!

Dogma - The Movie (Directed by Kevin Smith)
by Black Man inhey y'all,.
i recently got this film on dvd and it is so on-point with its cynical look at religion and belief systems.
i laughed 'till i cried.

A good friend of mine finally pointed something cool out to me. In the scene where God is a middle-aged comatose guy in a hospital room, didn't he look sorta familiar? It's the actor who played Harold in Harold and Maude, only like 30 years older! His name is Bud Cort. I dig that they used him in Dogma.
Dogma is an awesome movie. I saw it when I was still a dub, and loved it. It raised a lot of questions, but not in a heavy-handed way. It still makes me laugh my ass off.
